props to Muslix64 and hackers everywhere
It puts a smile on my face knowing that a small group of unpaid media hackers are able to crack the AACS encryption scheme what tooks many developers and millions in R&D to create, in just a few short weeks.

iFone
Focusing just on Apple's pipeline they are going to be in for some hard times ahead. Apple's iPhone is far to restricted to be adopted. Someone else will produce an iPhone killer before the iPhone even catches on.

public libraries
Public libraries around the country are realizing the postion that "information brokers", (google comes to mind*) put them in. With tight budgets and limited technical knowledge they might need to find a new niche. By the way I volunteer at my local library, helping them with thier website, so i know how screwed they are.

not bright enough
Even with toughbooks the single biggest problem with portable computers is screen brightness. In direct sunlight lcd screens are not practical. I speak from expirence beacause I developed a business application for the tablet pc. I have recieved plenty of feedback from customers about how hard it was to use them in the field.

editor reps
This sounds similar to a reputation system for editors combined with a moderation system. Changes to an article or entry would need to be passed up through a chain of editors with increasing rank or rep. Use the best of vbulletin and slashcode to fix wiki. (Gotta love all the buzzwords)

win / win
With public relation statements like this coupled with the DRM 'ed iTunes how can Steve and Apple lose?

endless debate
Applications and systems developed that are developed rapidly by a small set of programmers would benifit from closed source security especially when producing software for small niches. Systems that are developed on a large scale and mission critial applications benefit from open source models because that can utilize a large tester base.

CNN pump and dump
Cable News channels pump stock all the time. CNN was touting Enron and Worldcom until the end. Pump and dump via spam is picked apart in detail while the cable news producers never get the attention these scum bags deserve.

huge savings
It only takes investment of $500,000 save approximately $80-100 a month. It could take 416.6 years to pay off at the current energy prices.

best of both worlds
Why could this idea be combined with the current technology. Millions of mirrors AND thousands if not millions of photo detectors would allow faster exposure times without as much waste as current CCD digital cameras.

ignore the users
Windows Vista is not going to be the godsend to users like microsoft made it out to be. Instead of focusing on user needs and wants, microsoft design with its own profitability in mind, ie DRM, licensing, authenication, certified drivers, and of course protected premium content (HD). A compnay has every right to do this but I think it is going to backfire unless microsoft starts working with users instead of against them.

communix?
It just makes sense that a communist government would adopt linux. These headlines will become too common as the developing world steps into the computer age.

Campus Printers
On many if not most college campuses the printers are administered and accounted for my a system tied to a student id. Each student can get so many free prints per semester and can pay per print after exceeding that. Malicious code executing on a print server could sniff all the student accounts accessing the printer.

I can only imagine what I would do if I had that much free time. I barely even find time for sleep. This guy should be going something more productive in my humble opinion.

BT hijacked
The MPAA is essentially hijacking bittorrent technology for their own greedy uses. We will see non-regulated bittorrent become a relic of internet as we know it.

paid upgrades
If HP released this upgrade in functionality with a firmware update, would the previous article on
/. entitled "Apple Charges For 802.11n, Blames Accounting Law" link - http://apple.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/01/16/ 2127204 violate the same Sarbanes-Oxley Act. Does anyone else anticipate paying for updates to get features that were originally promised?
