Democracy in context of modern western state is a system of electing political representative based on established ruleset in a democratic fashion.

You are correct. But there is a problem and it was identified by Harvard University that what we see, as the result of the Great Recession, is excessive fragmentation in political parties. What that means is that due to that fragmentation, Congress is not effectively making decisions because there is SIGNIFICANT political in-fighting. This results in the, for all intents and purposes, indecisive lawmaking that we have observed for some time in Congress that citizens are frustrated with. In that context, Democracy actually doesn't work. It results in an indecisive Congress that does nothing instead of something. I don't know what the solution to that problem is other than to ride out the transition while the Conservative and Liberal parties redefine themselves. The Great Recession significantly altered America and Western Europe.

For instance, Obama gave a heartfelt speech, met with the families for hours, and proposed solid actions after Newtown, where Trump tweeted his condolences (speech was the next day), met with the family for 35 minutes, tried to blame it on the FBI's pursuit of him, insulted various people, tossed out some fake news crap. The only solid action he is taking is on bump stocks, and those should have already been banned in congress. His attempt to try to say teachers should be all armed and dangerous is crazy talk. (If you want more firepower on campuses, then we have to pay for more security forces.)

Yes, lots of jobs will be displaced.
Yes, those displaced will go through a (short) period of transition that may upend their lives, but overall we'll all be better off, and the majority of them will be better off as well.

There is NO shortage of work needing done. We've very good at coming up with more things to do. I've been working on the same product at the same company for about 15 years, and the number of outstanding feature requests is several orders of magnitude more than what we had a decade ago. We continue to automate and optimize processes and our team went from 1 person to a distributed group of I-don't-even-know-how-to-count-them-all, and there's more that needs done now than last year.

The same applies for most other businesses. Ex. if Taco Bell fully automates every current job at each location, they can start addressing all the issues and complaints and additional features and menu items and etc etc etc. They can increase the quality of their items for the same price. They can retain a few staff members just to ensure the place stays clean and tidy (taco bells have been, in my experience, notoriously dirty). They can improve the facilities (which will require labor). And, best of all, those employees can go work at better jobs elsewhere and still be able to afford to eat at taco bell.
