It really depends who are the target users of textbook. As a first time introduction to a topic, textbooks tend to be a little rough. But as collections of carefully curated piece of knowledge, they are valuable.

There is a need for a carefully written description of a concept and the various versions of it, with 200 exercises some of them with solutions. That is what a textbook is. Whether it is print or not is an orthogonal issue. OpenDSA ( https://opendsa-server.cs.vt.e... ) is a pretty good online textbook for data structures and algorithms for example.

Now, there is value to a printed copies of some books and there is value to electronic ones depending on you usage of them.

We can't replace all our textbook with 3 minute video discussion of the topic. Such videos do not get in enough details and can not be precise enough and can not provide with dozens of alternate versions. But they can be a pretty good introduction to a topic.

Sigh. This is so obviously the bigger stores hiring lobbyists and bribing the government to get rid of their competition. Poor people do not have a choice. They can only buy what they can afford and they (we) can afford almost nothing at all. For those who don't understand go try to live on $20 for a whole week. Just one $20 bill. Then see how often you shop at Whole Foods and notice what you do buy if you are there. Hint, it won't be the salmon or the Manchego cheese. Rich people who lecture poor people about how their diet isn't healthy should be lined up against a wall and shot. End of problem. Or just kill all the poor. People have been so brainwashed by climate change fear porn that some people actually believe that humans are a disease upon the Earth and things would be better off if we just eliminated a huge swathe of humans from the face of the Earth. the Screen actors guild has for decades insured actors get paid for work. Yeah, everybody points to Tom Cruise's big paydays and forgets all the smaller productions out there.

1. "Avatar depression" shows lots of people were effected -- can you name any other movie that had this effect?
2. It's high box office performance is proof that A LOT people went to see it, and
3. As a result it got a lot people talking about the environment, sustainability, and how we are currently (mis)managing the planet in the name of greed.

Avatar had a deeper layer to it. The "tech" angle is a red herring to its popularity. People who say Avatar was shit are generally clueless about its META narrative as I discussed before.

SW:TLJ, ranked at #11, proof that Quantity != Quality, ALSO got lot of people talking -- specifically at how shitty it was. There have been numerous YouTube reviews dissecting and analyzing it to death such as Maulers, Wisecrack , MisAnthro Pony, etc. It ALSO had an impact on Han Solo and FUTURE Star Wars movies in the franchise. i.e. This one movie potentially killed Star Wars for good -- MANY fans have given up on Disney.

Sigh...Pale Moon got rid of NoScript because they were having issues with NoScript's ABE support and from what I've read when they went to the NoScript dev and told them the issue? He did the Ghostbusters 2016 bird bit and made it pretty clear he had exactly zero fucks to give about any issues Pale Moon might be having. If you want to keep trying to make it work as it degrades over time? More power to ya but the PM devs simply routed around the problem by giving us uBlock Origin Updater that installs uBlock Origin and keeps it up to date for you, no muss no fuss and from what I've read the uBlock team is more than happy to work on issues that may crop up with PM support.

BTW if you ever need a Chromium or newer Firefox based browser without all the extra service crap? Try Comodo Dragon and IceDragon, the only service they install is the update service (which you can easily opt out of at install by simply picking portable version) and the few add ons it comes with (like the media downloader and social media share button) can be tossed with just a right click if you don't want 'em but I personally find to be quit handy. Their UI has been pretty static for at least a couple years now so if you are like me and hate the way Chrome and FF are constantly mucking with things its a nice change of pace.
