Re:Cool
Look into who is funding the research by "journalists" who have access to these documents. Hint: It's a bunch of bankers, like Rockefeller, et. al. Seriously, go do it, you'll see that it's a war between foreign banks and US / Jewish owned banks.
Another hint: don't use the words "Jewish owned banks" if you want to keep your antisemitism secret.

Re:So forgetting a password
...and yet Hastert only gets 15 months.
This is actually very relevant to this case.
Hastert got 15 months. For withdrawing less than $10k from his bank account several times. Literally. That is the crime he was convicted of. It is illegal to move less than the reportable amount of money ($10k) in order to avoid having it reported. It is called structuring. Could be the most ridiculous, made-up crime of all time. And for this made-up crime the prosecutor said he should get 0-6 months.
But because he was also a dirty molester and they couldn't convict him on that, they said they should make an example of him to deter other molesters so they would know that they couldn't get away with it. Literally. This is what both the prosecutor and the judge said.
So not that he doesn't deserve worse - but there is something fundamentally wrong with the notion of punishing people for crimes they have not been convicted of or even charged with. "Everybody" knows this cop is a dirty child-porn watching creep. So let him rot in jail. Hastert admitted that he did something wrong with some high school boys, but we can't get him because of the statute of limitations. So find something else and push his punishment beyond the guidelines. (they also tacked on a $250k payment to a victim reimbursement fund and mandatory sex-abuse counseling - things he was not charged with)
In the immortal words of Clint Eastwood, "Deserve's got nothin' to do with it." Either we are a nation of laws, or we aren't. And letting the gross and creepy edge cases define our law is not the way to be a nation of laws.

That might be a good idea for now in oppressive countries such as Russia and China. In Western countries, however, it's better to stand up and fight for your rights.

Re:Loads of Dyson PR employees here
Most of the comments have an unusual UK syntax and show such a positive and caring outlook about this article which obviously is a PR stint also. Well played Dyson.
Sorry, but deploying sarcasm against them won't work, they'll just think you're really complimenting their spiffing wee marketing campaign.

That's because most phones are good enough.
I had an iPhone 4 for 4 years (oddly never experienced the reception problem), then upgraded to an iPhone 6 Plus. I'll probably have that one for 4 years as well. It makes phone calls, sends email, browses the web, lets me play games or read books during down time. Newer features such as pressure sensitive screens or "live" photos, 3D photos, or being able to pour a bottle of champagne on them aren't really killer features. Mostly they strike me as gimmicks that don't give me an overwhelming desire to upgrade.

Re:The universe is a weird place
Where did THAT object come from?
Nothing, or more specifically, the energy of empty space. Lawrence Krauss, who is one of the pioneers of this theory, makes a very compelling argument about it in his book "A Universe From Nothing". This lecture summarizes his ideas.
I know, we're not supposed to bother thinking about it since conventional wisdom says we can't find out about it.
Heresy! To science no observable phenomena is beyond comprehension until proven otherwise.

Re:When will you people get it through through you
I bought VR. My husband bought VR. Eat a dick.
OMG the immersion! I can even taste it!!
Personally I want VR.
VR for (on rails) tours of places and entertainment = Great.
VR for normal games = Ok I guess if the fidelity of the screen is atleast as good as a normal computer monitor and if it's comfortable.
VR games stuck in one place with a controller = Not the most interesting, especially if the one above isn't true.
VR games with some freedom of movement and tracking of the person = Good but since we can't move around everywhere with these kinds of products (Vive and PC) and realistically not even outside if the current reality is completely replaced by a virtual one it will be an on rail experience such as the shot from a vehicle games or Duke Nukem Forever and so on. Not the best.Personally I too think the most interesting applications lie in augmented reality where the real world could become more interesting / have additional content brought too it. Missions in the real world. Say table tennis or laser game or whatever in the augmented world. People could do legal graffiti everywhere. Touring and facts about the environment and so on.
The market and usefulness of augmented reality must be much higher. There's still room for a "Real-life Shadow warrior" where you battle daemons in the somewhat real world. https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Re:barriers?
Trams (or what is called streetcar in the US, according to wikipedia) share the road with cars (but have the right of way). Barriers are not a practical solution.
Barriers are in use for trams. The difference between a tram and a train is actually quite blurred. Some tram lines runs only on roads and acts sort of like busses while others are more railroad like with significant parts of the line running "outside of road traffic". When they aren't running together with cars, barriers and other railroad features can be used and to some extend they are.
If you look at the picture in the article, you can see grass to the far left. Naturally it would be pavement if the trams were running together with cars. In other words there is no left/right traffic other than trams and the pavement is for the crossing pedestrians. It's an intersection I would classify as a railroad crossing. It's very likely that the traffic light is controlled by presence or absence of metal wheels on the rails, just like normal railroad crossings are controlled.
Best example of a very railroad like tram I can think of offhand would be the Keihan tramline from Kyoto to Otsu in Japan video. Luckily somebody shortened the 20 minutes run down to like 2 minutes, but it does show the railroad and tram like locations of the line. It's even more blurred mix between tram and railroad because this particular line has a special permit to use vehicles up to 50 meters (30 meters being the normal max for trams).
Points to whoever can give a clear definition of when it's a railroad and when it is a tramline. Keep in mind that Enoshima Electric Railway is a railroad, not a tramline.

Re:What ethical problems?
I suspect when someone meets the right woman, her past isn't all that important. Same as we don't expect a bride to wear white, or are scandalized by divorced women dating, or blended families with children from both parents.
Here's how the fashion model / bond girl Tula handled it after she was outed. She went on to be a playboy centerfold, her and her second husband had a child (a story in itself) so
... I think that people would be hard pressed to say that a sex change was wrong for her, or that the results were freakish. :-) -

Re:Big Data is not a substitute for Critical Think
Big Data is about finding patterns, not conclusions.
Gary Taubes (author of "Good calories - bad calories" and "Why we get fat and what to do about it") is my favourite scientist because he just exhibit such a healthy, integrated "given that what we believe today is correct" attitude, e.g. being totally open to be proven incorrect. There is a saying "follow those that seek the truth, run from those that have claimed to found it", and Gary is most certainly a truth seeker in that respect.
For instance in the interview https://www.youtube.com/watch?..., he says during the first minutes "That's what we should believe until we have remarcable evidence to reject it" and "Don't take my word for it, anyone can try it out for themselves", without this being specifically emphasised or made a big point of, it is just his natural way of reasoning which I love so much.
And now to what triggered me to answer your post: I think it is later in that interview that he points out that observation studies can only be used to form hypothesis, dawing conclutions from them is wrong, you actually need to perform controlled experiments to do that.

Of course it's nice weather, we made it that way.
I have yet to see a "Climate Change" study that corrects for the ongoing non-CO2 weather modifications:
Video from US Weather Service satellites showing the clear and obvious production of thick cloud formation by coordinated steam releases. In the right conditions this can produce rain, or increase severity of a storm.
Here's a neat 7min video about the South Texas Weather Modification Association, who helps make it rain for the benefit of Texas farmers.
Interesting that the mention "silver iodide" as their weather acceleration chemical since that is among many of the chemicals, along with aluminum oxide, that soil samples are showing increasing amounts of, esp. in California.
Weather Modification is real, but "Climate Change" is propaganda this is evident because their measurements do not correct for our weather manipulations (esp. cloud heating via NEXRAD microwave). I suspect the messaging is designed to manufacture your consent for a global tax on all goods and services called: "Carbon Tax". Meanwhile allowing polluters to keep polluting. For example: Companies already buy "carbon credits" offset by dumping iron in the ocean to cause algae blooms which allegedly sequester CO2. Is this the sort of activity you what you want to fund with globalism taxes?
Here's a video of a nozzle on a commercial airliner wing spraying chemicals to create the so-called "Chem Trails" we use to assist in weather modification. It's similar to the silver iodide flare method, but in much greater volume.
Sometimes the chemicals are added to jet fuel instead. Here you can see the chemical trails being turned on and off.
Don't be fooled. We have been geoengineering the weather like this for decades.
