    Is the government spying on schizophrenics enough?

    Seriously, people use the so-called "dark net" for a reason. Most of them don't want to have their every action recorded, any more than they'd want someone standing over their shoulder 24/7 and recording everything they do.

    Punishing them for wanting a bit of privacy doesn't seem like a very wise move.

    A federal court will never threaten an individual or demand the immediate payment -- either over the telephone or money wire service -- for fines or for not responding to a jury summons, the court stated.

    On the other hand, state courts, esp. those who sold the rights to collect those fines to private companies, absolutely will. I think John Oliver had a section on it, but the first hit is apparently (the timelier/promoted) video of Samantha Bee.

    If you are looking at the apocalypse, drastic measures are needed right away. But taking a step back I doubt that there is such a thing as doom or ruin coming to the US. But if you believe in those things or use those terms, no matter if it is about Mexicans, terrorism, China, debt, Illuminati or climate change, the cause is lost anyways.

    I was surprised to see Scott Adams' fascination with Donald Trump, since Trump resembles the pointy-haired boss from his comic. Reading the comic frequently might give some insight, since Adams' seems to have developed a soft spot for his protagonist as well, IMHO. Just like he seems to have grown to like Trump. He shied away from openly endorsing Trump for a long time, even though his preference became quite obvious over time.

    I suppose no matter how obnoxious he is, if you watch him for too long, it is difficult to resist his charm. Though as opposed to Adams I find it far more interesting to research Trump's supporters and see why they support him than analyzing Trump himself, since I believe Trump isn't that difficult to figure out. He simply combines Fox News' methods (which have been dissected over and over) with a sleazy car salesman routine and simply being very good at selling. See here:

Dr. Attia covers the nitty-gritty details of how cholesterol is produced in the body and absorbed from dietary intake. (Over 90% of serum cholesterol is produced by the body itself, only a tiny fraction comes from the food you eat.)

    Yeah, fruits are high in sugar, but that doesn't mean I want even more sugar / corn syrup to make up for the bad flavor that corn syrup drink makers have to mitigate.

    Fruits aren't necessarily high in sugar, but juicing typically keeps the sugar while removing a lot of other materials, making fruit juice have a higher concentration than fruit. The same applies to vegetables by the way, which is why "juicing" or "juice diets" are a pretty dumb idea if the whole point is to be healthier.

    A lot of the "other material" is the fiber from the whole fruit, which slows the digestion of the sugars/carbs. Furthermore, a cup of orange juice contains the juice of several oranges, which would be difficult to consume from whole fruit in one sitting.

    You might be interested in this (90min) video, Sugar: The Bitter Truth by Robert H. Lustig, MD, UCSF Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Endocrinology, in which he explores the damage caused by sugary foods. He argues that fructose (too much) and fiber (not enough) appear to be cornerstones of the obesity epidemic through their effects on insulin. The video also describes, in detail, how different types of sugar are metabolized by the body - for example: glucose, entire body; fructose, only by the liver - like alcohol, but with detrimental differences.
