Doom 3 Web Site Now Operational
thrash242 writes "After much re-re-re-rechecking, the official Doom 3 site finally has some real content, instead of just 'Coming soon' - it also confirms the August 3rd ship date. Woohoo!"

and it wants its story back
Just a new flash demo
Damn - I wanted to see monster guides, mapedit tutes, system specs, etc...
Oh, well - I'm happy to wait for this game, should be really good.
You can't expect to wield supreme executive power, just because some watery tart threw a sword at you
"It confirms the August 3rd ship date. Woohoo!"
That just confirms that I'm pre-ordering it insted of HL 2. THANK YOU id!!
I went through the whole thing last night and they did a great job on it! The site is really creepy, setting the mood by going full screen flash mode. The music and the information listed there is all quite well put together and interesting. Did 2design do that site? Felt like his work, IMHO.
The dangers of knowledge trigger emotional distress in human beings.
Shouldn't that be August 5th?
I mean I'm not that good with dates usually, but it is my birthday date.
Guess I'm the only one who has this set as their wallpaper in XP?

Of course, I found it thanks to [H]
..to upgrade the graphics cards!

I'm still looking for the skip intro button. It's supposed to be a website. If ID want to relase a movie trailer they could give us a .torrent to an MPEG. The website on the other hand should - quickly and concisely - let us know where we can buy it, when we can buy it, how much for and what we need to play it.
Direct link to the large trailer, for those who don't have Quicktime installed.
So what's the real story on the system reqs ?
Is it...
From September's PC Gamer issue, they have the system requirements as:
Minimum:
P4 1.5Ghz CPU (or equivalent).
384MB of RAM.
64MB graphics card.
Lowest supported GPU is a Geforce 4 MX (worse than Geforce 3).
Supported cards:
GF 4 MX.
GF 3.
GF 4.
GF FX (and higher).
Radeon 8500s, 9000s and higher.
They themselves recommend:
2Ghz CPU.
512MB RAM.
Radeon 9800.
5-channel sound card and speakers.

I hate to be the one to mention it (OK, no I don't), but still no mention of when it'll be available for Mac? Or, more importantly, what the system requirements for Macs might be? Ah well, I guess I shouldn't complain, they don't mention Linux anywhere either but we know it'll be available right away for Linux, so it'll probably be available right away for Mac too. Ha.
In case you haven't seen it, there's a video of the G4 Tech TV show featuring Doom 3 ingame footage. Plasma Gun, BFG, Lost Soul, Reveant...

The gates of hell are indeed open! I think the creator of the midi-tune-playing-in-the-background site escaped from the bowels of hell to create that monstrosity.
:)
Never mind the minimum-spec for the game, what the hell is the mininum spec for displaying that site?
PS: It doesn't render correctly with mozilla-firefox and version 7 of the flash for linux player.
Maybe it's Slashdotted. All I get is a full screen window with a white background and black area down the side. No text, pictures, or animations.
No, by posting something un-funny and un-interesting, you broke the code of the AC. For years, AC has been known as the go-to-guy on slashdot, for well rounded insights and side splitting jokes. On this day, you failed not only yourself but the entire AC community as well. That kind of shame cannot be carried lightly but must instead be met with the humble acceptance that can only be shown through ritual disembowelment. Remember, you do it not for yourself, but for the honor of ACs everywhere!
Yes. It's called the first site you enter (http://www.doom3.com). You can browse through the screenshots, trailers, and game information without even clicking that "Enter Flash Site" link.

Dehacked is going to work, right? Don't tell me I've been holding on to WinTex for nothing.
Did anyone else watch the flash page loading screen tick up to 100% and think they were playing diablo?

Can't wait for this game.
Looks like doom 3 will make a shit load by releasing it before hl2.
what i want to know is if hl2 can release it on the same date..? highly unlikely.
Ok, so we're making this game-equivelent of an extremely hyped, anticipated sequel and graphics masterpiece. Let's give people wallpapers, and make the "big" option 1024x768! Lame.
Athlon 1200
... it'll probably play doom3 ok on lesser graphic detail, and it'll be the first time i booted into windows in 3 years.
512MB RAM
ATI 9800 / 128MB
works great for everything else though
According to Todd Hollenshead's plan file : Mac and Linux: Unfortunately I don't have dates for either of these. However, Linux binaries will be available very soon after the PC game hits store shelves. There are no plans for boxed Linux games. More remains to be done for the OSX version of DOOM 3 and that will take some time. We won't release the OSX version until it's just as polished as the PC version. The date for OSX DOOM 3 remains "when it's done", but I can confirm that it's definitely coming. Here's a link to the plan at Blues http://www.bluesnews.com/plans/6/
The website for the United Areospace Corprotation has also gone live. All it is doing right now is counting down. It shows about 15 days left.
Architectural plans are like computer source code with a couple of differences: You only compile once.
I remember setting up a 14.4k modem duel back in the day when online fps was mano a mano ('92-'93??). I'll never forget how cool it was getting the connection to finally take and there we were, two guys on the opposite side of town hunting each other down in the hallowed halls of Doom. It blew my dad's mind - he had no idea such a thing was possible with his computer... That game will always have a special place in this geek's heart... Bring on Doom III!

Quake 3 had a multi-processor mode that could be enabled on the command line. Will Doom 3 have that?
When are we finally gonna get games that can take advantage of my dual-Xeon workstation?
Anyone who loves or hates any language, platform, or manufacturer, doesn't know what they're talking about.
This first Doom 3 tourney will be held in Dallas August 7th-8th. See you there.
ignorance is bliss. googlefiberatx.com
With these Load times for each section of the page it appears as if it is necessary to upgrade for the website alone.
Anyone else start laughing when you heard the little "Arrr Arrr" echo at the end of the demo? Just like the Terrance and Phillip movie preview for "Asses of Fire 2".
and it'll be the first time i booted into windows in 3 years.
:)
Make sure you remember to update your virus definitions and security patches, otherwise you'll experience something I like to call a nasty surprise.
This space intentionally left blank.
Laugh...
Fucking a fat girl is like riding a scooter... it's fun 'til someone sees you.
I dunno, the screenshots look about the same to me as the original DOOM.
:-)

Then again, I'm using Lynx as my browser....
Um, Sorry. Anyway anyone trying to run Doom 3 on a GF 4 MX is going to be pretty unhappy with the results. Of course that doesn't keep the idiots from PC Gamer stating that "So long as you have a GeForce 4MX card, you should be able to play Doom 3 with many of its bells and whistles at a decent clip." Sure, and there are WMD in Iraq...
I can't wait till Doom 3 goes retail and the Id forums are overloaded with users running 2.0GHz Celerons with Geforce 4mx's asking why they can't run it at anything other then 640x480 with everything turned off or set to low.
If you wanna get rich, you know that payback is a bitch
ID has stated that the focus is definately on the single player experience, but there is a multiplayer component. The first tournament will be held at QuakeCon. =)
Since when is 1024x768 considered large? IMO that's the smallest they should offer. Especially for a gaming crowd, you'd think 1600x1200 would be the standard large size.
I guess the old pre-release shareware version isn't around anymore. Definatly getting the game, but I feel somewhat let down there isn't a shareware version released like the original.
~~ Behold the flying cow with a rail gun! ~~
if your pc cant handle flash, it wont handle doom3
it will ship with a Linux version so there is no need to resort to that... unless of course your other OS is actually still BeOS.
Your CPU is not doing anything else, at least do something.
For those of you using ECN be reminded that the website is a ECN blackhole[1] and will not load if you don't disable ECN or strip off the ECN bits from the header.
For you Linux-users, it can easily be done with "iptables -t mangle -A POSTROUTING -p tcp -d 208.50.55.160 -j ECN --ecn-tcp-remove".

You look like a million dollars. All green and wrinkled.
Also, its a bit sad that your breaking your Windows solitary over D3.
Its comming out on Linux, why not wait?

If it wasn't a Doom game that I've been extremely excited about for over a year to get my hands on, I'd wait to play the demo.
Instead, I'm going to get to Electronics Boutique (where I have it preordered) bright and early so I can get it ASAP and giggle like a insane schoolgirl the whole way home, anticipating the demon-killing awesomeness that I will soon experience.
So, I guess, hardcore Doom fans buy *this* game without playing the demo. I haven't been disappointed by an id game yet, after all.
