Ask mc chris
Many of you are no doubt familiar with the works of mc chris. He's probably most well known as the high pitched rapper on the track 'Fett's Vette' that you probably have an MP3 of somewhere. In addition to several highly entertaing albums, he's also the voice of MC Pee Pants (Aqua Teen Hunger Force) and Hesh (Sealab 2021). He's now touring, but you better already have tickets since he sold out his first 8 shows (including my local venue. The wife is very unhappy with me for not getting tickets in time). He'll also be performing at the Penny Arcade Expo later this year. This is your chance to ask him those burning questions. Standard Slashdot interview rules apply: Ask here, and we'll pick from the best of them and then wait patiently for Chris to bless us with his words.
Word.
Forget the whales - save the babies.
Taco, don't be such a cheapskate, go buy tickets from a scalper.
I had it good when I lived in Michigan, I could buy tickets, actual tickets over the phone or internet for shows in Detroit, Pine Knob, etc without much trouble. If I had to pay a scalper it was only a 100% markup.
Now I live in Santa Cruz and tickets to even the drunks on Pacific avenue sell out in seconds. Scalpers will happily take $500 for a ticket that cost them $30 and they'll get it.
I rely on local bands now. Support your local musicians before they're replaced by DJ's and Karoke.

my mates shitty band that no-one's heard of on Slashdot too? He doesn't read Slashdot, though he can do if it will help.
have an Mp3 of this anywhere I assure you..
from when Alvin and the chipmunks lost popularity
What do you do to deal with the pressures of touring? After seeing you at the Hartford show(The guy that yelled out Sharko Sucks!) it is pretty amazing to see someone who has basically been run ragged over the past few months still put on an amazing performance.

Who the fuck are you, and why do I care?
How does the Slashdot Effect happen given that no slashdotters ever RTFA?
I'm looking for a website that is similar to slashdot but doesn't report "high pitched rapper" news.
Can anyone recommend anything else?
Thanks.
I know some voice actors, for example, use their natural voices for cartoon characters (Bugs Bunny, etc.). When you rapped, as MC Pee Pants (or Sir Loin) for ATHF, was that your natural voice? If not, can you post a clip of your real voice?
How did you start your act? also When and how did you get into voice acting? Sorry, just trying to ask a real question.
Why is it that MC Pee Pants gets absolutely no respect from Satan, whereas the WisdomCube/Dubmassahedron does? To me, MC Pee Pants, while not as intelligent as the aforementioned geometric characters, is vastly more entertaining than that lot.

If you're unfamiliar with MC Chris, then I kindly ask that you place your nerd membership in this waste receptacle for immediate processing.
Fett's Vette, for example, is a song where Bobba Fett describes how the only reason he bounty hunts is to pay for his sweet Corvette.
Mere seconds in Google could help you avoid making such embarrassing geek faux pas in the future.
I can't believe you people don't know who mc chris is.

Educate yourselves.
If you guys don't know who he is, why bother to reply to the story? I don't want to read about Linus, but I don't post replies like a jackass.
/.ers an even worse name. Just ignore the stories you don't care about.
Chris is good at what he does, and is getting even better. Go download some of his music, he has an album you can download for free called "Life's a Bitch and I'm her Pimp" it has a song on it about how Boba Fett bounty hunts so he can pay for his Corvette.

Is Master Shake hard to work with?
In the free world the media isn't government run; the government is media run.
It says on your website that you have a meeting about preserving your voice, is this a joke? Are you really having problems or foreseeing problems with your voice? Am I going to see an SNL Ashlee Simpson type ordeal happen at your show at the Blind Pig?
How hard was it to get back on your feet after parting company with Simon and Theodore? In retrospect, was it wise to change your name from Alvin to MC Chris? Didn't that alienate alot of fans or perhaps just left them searching for their favorite chipmunk? How's Dave?

If you want to hear some of his songs, go to the Adult Swim website and download some mp3s (note that only one of the songs is MC Chris').
mc, love your stuff!
:)
How about some more computer raps? "Ratz" and "Boy's dont cry" are the closest I've heard of your work to a computer-related song, any chance of getting some Linux-related rhymes?

could you play it? /., so you've made money (is there another metric?): will you do anything unexpected? Challenging? The first rap symphony?
Do you feel that your work edifies your audience? How so?
In your opinion, how does hip-hop differentiate between characterizing a problem, with an eye towards debugging, and glorifying the problem?

Since i see an asston of moronic questions, i'll ask a reasonable one.
Did you get to spend much time with the late Harry Goz? (Harry was Captain Murphy on Sealab, amongst many other things). What are your thoughts on him? Will we see more work with AdultSwim in the future?
That statement is absolute proof that rock n' roll is officially dead.
Much of MC Chris music has a geek theme to it, including one named "geek" and another named "ratz" that talks about being a loner/geek at college
His DJ, John, does all the beats and samples from a 12" Apple Powerbook
I actually hadn't heard of him until last month, when one of my friends asked me if I wanted to go to his show at Baltimore's Ottobar (the first stop on his tour). I went, and liked what I heard.
He's not typical gangasta rap. It's sort of rap for thinking people.
I have blog like everyone else

Since you are a musician, you must be using computers for your musical needs. Do you trust Open Source or Propriety software for that?
Also for general computing, what do you use?
Can you cite your reasons for the same?!
Well he is probably "keeping it real." My guess is he really is a geek so is rapping about what he knows.
Insert Generic Sig Here:
Anyway, who is this goddam Mc Chris that I have never heard about? And why is he so special for us techies that he is eligible to appear in a story on Slashdot?
I am trully puzzled.

With pride.
Ordinarily, I'd play you off as a troll, but since so many others are expressing difficulty in understanding the worthiness of this, I'll try and sum up a few points:
1) Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Sealab 2021 are oft-watched shows by geeks (at least the ones I know, self included); MC Chris has roles in each. 1 Geek point.
2) MC Chris' rap is, in now way, anything like the rap you hear on the radio. While I happen to like it, I have no idea why. You're either going to like it, or extremely dislike it I assume, but it's definitely worth a listen. No geek points.
3) MC Chris' music contains many things or topics geeks find appealing. If Star Wars is considered geeky, then a rap by Boba Fett about working for Jabba Hut to pay the bills on his corvette is doubly geek. 2 geek points.
4) MC Chris gives his music away free on his website. Free as in beer. 10 geek points.
Someone else mentioned that the DJing is done on an Apple Powerbook or iBook or something, but I consider that a tool of the trade moreso than anything. Were it a Linux laptop, then I'd award points, but can't award for an industry standard.

His work is in a sub-genre of rap known as "Nerdcore" along with other artists such as MC Frontalot and Optimus Rhyme.
He (along with the other artists I mentioned) will be playing at PAX this year.
His most famous track is about Star Wars. One of his songs uses music samples from the arcade game Gauntlet. A lot of his other stuff covers fairly geeky subject matter.
So, you might not like his work. That's understandable. But he's still as relevent to Slashdot as anything else posted today.
That said, in addition to mc chris, we also have returning guests from last year:
MC Frontalot
Optimus Rhyme
and the Minibosses
Lastly, a couple of questions from me.
1)My girlfriend is a *huge* fan of the Brak Show, Sealab, etc... have you really left for good?
2)Making music for the Nerdcore seems problematic to me. Namely, I don't think that one would be able to put forth a bunch of intellectual property on the internet and expect this group to actually pay for it. Are you 'making it' on the take from the door at your gigs alone? (Hat's off on leaving your day job and giving it a go in either case).
3)Do you feel pressured to put forth a conventional full-length CD for your fans, or will you continue to offer up shorter, sweeter groups of songs for free on your website?
Thanks, and see you at PAX!

And what is this aqua teen hunger force? Is it a loadable kernel module to bring the Aqua environment to Linux, so we can put X in a sack and dump it in the river? You dumb anonymous coward!

As soon as your mate's shitty band gets played nightly in bumps, shows, and theme songs on something like, AdultSwim or somesuch.
The whole idea of being "geek" is that you don't fit in. If we needed membership to be geek, then those of us who are truly geek would never be let in the club to begin with.
Talk about missing the point...
Those are your opinions, and you're welcome to them, but I have no idea how you could say he's not a good lyricist. Everyone here who likes to jump on the bandwagon of "I never heard of him, therefore he must suck" and "The only rap songs I hear are the ones shoved down my throat by popular radio, therefore all rap sucks" should just look up the lyrics to Fette's Vette somewhere and read them. Now imagine yourself trying to write a goofy song with the same complexity of rhythm, rhyme scheme, story-telling and humor.
This verse alone is pure genius...
Call me master, 'cause I'm faster than Pryor on fire
I no longer have to hot-wire
I'm a hunter for hire with no plans to retire
And all you sucker MCs can call me sire.
Just because something sounds goofy doesn't mean it's not complex, creative or even good.
Happy people make bad consumers.
Your work on the Adult Swim lineup is much appreciated in our household. But I wondered whose voice work you enjoyed (not necessarily restricted to Williams Street). Who's fun to listen to? Who's fun to work with?

Since the 'Happy Birthday' song is copyrighted, would you consider open-sourcing Hesh's Birthday Song under something like the Creative Commons License? I'd rather hear it than the cheezy home-brew birthday songs that restaurants are forced to devise.
Slashdot: come for the pedantry, stay for the condescension.
the one geek to out-geek them all. mc is one of the greats of nerdcore. listen to some of his free tracks at his website. "geek" isn't all about linux, guy.

Did you know that if you click on 'LISTEN' on his site, you can download the entirity of 'Lifes A Bitch And I'm Her Pimp', complete with cover art? I've got it in my iPod right now...
Find the British rap group The Streets. Rap for people who don't really like rap. Seriously, it's good stuff.

4) MC Chris gives his music away free on his website. Free as in beer. 10 geek points.
he also encourages remixing his songs, and provides acapella and instrumental versions of a lot of the songs.
Hey mc, we know the generalized geek rapper from the songs, but tell us about YOU. What're the hardware and OS of choice? What kind of characters do you play in D&D? What're your favourite movies/books? Top five all-time desert-island superpowers?

PS great show at Arlene's in Manhattan!

i can't fucking believe all the negative comments in here. if you don't know who mc chris is, or you don't like him, stay the fuck away!
Wrong attitude. The article, and you, start with the misguided premise that everyone should know this guy. Rather than inviting those of us without a clue to learn more, you're getting antagonist and pushing people away who might otherwise give it a listen. I like some rap, but I certainly do not like the self-important bullshit that surrounds it. Someone saying I should already be a fan essentially results in me never being a fan, and that is the camp Slashdot, and you, have put "mc chris". Bang-up job, boys . . .
Did you steal your stage name, or at least borrow from Dav Pilkey?
