As a vegetarian, i wouldn't touch it. I am a vegetarian not only because of the killing of animals, but also because meat is high in fat and cholesterol and is far more unhealthy than other protein-rich sources. I'll stick to my tofu and soy protein, thanks.
However, i do believe this would be good for the whole of society that eats meat. It removes the killing of animals from the equation without requiring people to give up eating meat. So from a "is it a good thing to do?" standpoint, i'd say yes, but don't expect a bunch of vegetarians/vegans to jump on board. This is more for the general public than veg*ans.
i completely agree... and i think that's the message that movie studios should be taking from this -- now that it's possible to create backups, more people are wanting to buy BD players when they wouldn't have otherwise -- not that the pirates have won again.
i received my Family Pack of Leopard the day it was released. I installed it on a cross-state drive that evening on my Macbook, and when i got back home, installed it on my iMac G5, my PowerMac G4, and (even though i don't live with her, i don't think apple will mind, since she is FAMILY) my mother's iMac G4. none of them exhibited any major problems.
all of the minor quirks i found were fixed in 10.5.1, and all the problems with Final Cut Pro 6 were fixed with 6.0.2. i haven't had it crash, pause, hang up, whatever. The only issue i found is with the VPN connection to my work, i believe it changed some settings there. but other than that, it's been a pleasure to use.
all of the installs were upgrades except my macbook, which i did an Archive and Install. the fact that it works SO WELL from one version of the OS on one DVD across all the machines... G4, G5, intel core duo... and that it works well even on the G4s, is pretty impressive.
and don't forget that you can just right click the non-DRM file now and convert to another format that DOES NOT have your user information embedded in it. it's a very simple, fast process for the paranoid.
As a Floridian, Democrat, and citizen of Tallahassee (it's always weird seeing things about your relatively small town... like all the references to Tallahassee on Lost), i must say that this is ridiculous. i don't want Florida deciding Hilary when i want Obama to win! (that is a personal political matter, i don't want to start arguing about the two sides, my point is i want my choice to count)
Every vote must count, and especially here where we have so many voting problems.
you could not be more wrong. anyone with a surround system hooked up to their HDTV (and that's quite a large % of the owners) will use optical to their surround system and component to their HDTV if they don't have HDMI. i'm planning on doing the same thing, or using a HDMI-DVI adapter (since my HDTV only has DVI and component) and running the optical to the surround system.
CompUSA has BD-R and BD-RE discs (~ $25 each), and the sony PC blu-ray burner drive ($800 i think). and yeah, it was very weird seeing them on the shelf!
well i wanted XM until i found out they didn't have NPR, and so i'd have to go to Sirius instead. but this makes me guess that there's some bad tension between XM and NPR, obviously... maybe XM wouldn't allow NPR to broadcast on their service?
i have to slightly disagree with you. i'm tired of the 540 argument of 1080i.
yes, only half the lines are shown at 1/60th of a second. but all 1080 lines are shown every 30th of a second.
the macbook scrolls by having two fingers on the mouse pad and moving them down, and right click by having two fingers on the pad then clicking. parallels and boot camp work great for running windows.

also, the mac os x gui has changed quite a bit with each release between 10.1 and 10.4, moreso than the changes between system 1 and system 2, so 10.2 and 10.3 should be shown as well as 10.0. 10.5 shouldn't be shown, because it isn't guaranteed that that's what the desktop will look like, and neither is it that way for vista.
are you serious? AMD is always playing catchup. with big names like Dell, Apple, and more under Intel's belt, i don't think they NEED to regain market share.
actually, apple re-announced it over a week ago.
it announced it'd be showing off Leopard at this year's WWDC over a year ago, at WWDC last summer. this is EXTREMELY old news.
that's a bit misleading. it's at most 4, considering that two of them are on the keyboard that must be plugged in via USB, and really 3, if you consider that you need the mighty mouse plugged in to use the machine (since it doesnt have bluetooth), and so that takes up another (probably one on your keyboard). so you're left with one 1.1 port on your keyboard, and two 2.0 ports on your imac unless you get a hub.
granted, i have an imac g5 that has the same USB setup, but i just don't like misleading advertising. (although its not really advertising, but i digress.)
ahem. MPEG2 at 19 Mbps (or whatever is the norm for HD broadcast) IS going to look worse than H.264 at the same bitrate. if you're thinking of comparing it to H.264 at a lower bitrate, then you have a strong argument, but a completely irrelevant one. H.264 can store the exact same quality as MPEG2 at a lower bitrate than MPEG2, so that means that if the bitrates are equal, then H.264 is going to have a higher quality, assuming of course you haven't reached the bitrate point of uncompressed 4:4:4 video.
and unless if you have a true 1080p24 display, who effing cares? if you're hooking it up over 720p or 1080i, then there is no difference. if you have a 1080p, then blu-ray doesn't mean better quality because of the format. it means you happen to get it first.
where did you hear about this? i have a black macbook, and the paint doesn't feel in the slightest like it's going to chip off. it's a magnet for fingerprints, sure, but it doesn't feel like cheap paint.

sigh. for the last time.
MAC = Media Access Control, a.k.a. the hexadecimal string of numbers that identifies a network interface.
Mac = short for Macintosh.
i don't go around yelling WINDOWS at you.

it'd be easier to just do Mac-on-linux instead

and it's not Dual Core 2, its Core 2 Duo... that makes it sound like it's two Core 2 Duo chips.

the first link is to the windows EXE file. for those of us NOT USING WINDOWS, click the mirror link.
this is just an implementation of the windows sideshow technology shown atleast over a year ago by microsoft. more info here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/features/for everyone/sideshow.mspx

you WILL notice a difference on a 1080p projection screen or 42"+ 1080 HDTV (i.e. not that EDTV crap).
