Porn in Your Pocket
cmaster383 writes "Wired is running a story about the use of a PSP for distribution of Porn. 'Two Japanese publishers of adult DVD video have announced plans to release a selection of their top titles on Sony's Universal Media Disc, or UMD, format, which is currently supported exclusively by the PSP, next month. These aren't shady gray-market items: The eight video discs will be officially licensed by Sony and carry the PSP logo on the package.'"
When home video recorders were the next big thing, the VHS format won out over Sony's higher-quality Betamax. Why? Because the adult film industry embraced VHS.

How does the saying go...that for any media to survive in the marketplace, it has to be accepted by the porn industry?
Looks like Sony's done their homework.

Finally... The PSP has the killer application is needs to truly succeed. But I would hate to be the janitor required to clean the Middle school or high school bathrooms around the country.
Now come on the title could of been so much better for the article ..
For example "Porn-Station pocket" or "Play(with yourself)station pocket" or ever "Play-Station porn-set "
The only things certain in war are Propaganda and Death. You can never be sure which is which though
It's already possible to watch porn on a GBA using that SD-card media adapter that's for sale in Japan. The GBA is not region-locked so that adapater would work in the U.S. too.

some porn in your pocket or are you just happy to see me!?
This brings a whole new meaning to the term hardcore gamer...

When I watch pr0n, I want it to be in the privacy of my own home so I can...uh...fully enjoy it. Why would you want to watch it on your commute to work? It would just make it harder to concentrate once you arrive.
"...Sony's Universal Media Disc, or UMD, format, which is currently supported exclusively by the PSP..."
Universal Exclusivity.
Paying taxes to buy civilization is like paying a hooker to buy love.
To all the people observing that porn is frequently the driving force for new media formats, someone explain to me... who is going to buy porn movies for a portable device? What is the compelling situation where one would want to watch porn on a small screen like the PSP's? Really just genuinely curious.
But i'm really not looking forward to sitting next to some guy on the train who's watching porn, and i imagine a lot of parents wouldn;t be too happy about this either. I believe a lot of porn mags are bought but most of them are 'used' at home. The whole concept seems floored, if people want porn to watch in private they'll get higher quality dvd's or if they want to watch porn on the move they'll get arrested. The market seems too small to me.

The world's most popular 1-on-1 rape game gets ported to the PSP too.
(no, seriously, this game tops the charts at Himeya Store)

I don't even see why it would have to be shady. What's so shady about porn?
Shhh! Not so loud...
I don't need a signature.
it is called "Universal Media disc", because calling it "restrictive media disc" wouldn't look as good to your customers...you can likely thank the marketing department for making up that name.
I used the PSP for porn almost immediately. I only saved photos on my memory stick pro duo (why does that sound so dirty, all of a sudden?). They looked really good! And then I removed them. For some reason I didn't think it was a good idea to have porn on a device that is targeted at minors and that would very probably end up in a minor's hands. I could see the headlines: "Accidental Porn Release...."
Wow, you get to see naked chicks shrunk down into two inches. Now trying to look that close will really make you go blind!
Why is it that almost three months after NA release and well over six months since JP release EVERY SINGLE ARTICLE that mentions the PSP has yet another person seemingly possessed to post "ZOMG! Teh U stands 4 Universal, yet....it is a proprietary format!" That was a funny-once, not a funny-40-hojillion.
Did anyone bother to stop and think that maybe, just maybe, the U in UMD refers to the M and not the D? That is, you can put any kind of media on it? As in, music and movies and pictures and games, (Yes, I know that's not all media types) which is what they've been pimping the thing for in the first place? I'm not saying it's not a stupid name, and I know Sony is the king of proprietary formats, but jeez. Give it a rest already.
the psp can store your own videos on it without anything extra other than enough space. and thats out of the box, not requiring some obscure piece of hardware from half a world away.
the point is that now they have dvd quality discs; no more rooting around downloading crappy quality crap just to reencode it to an even more crappy quality media to play it on some crappy handheld screen. the fact that the media is porn just makes it more taboo since most people associate the ps with video games, and thereby a child's toy. sony stated quite flatly that their latest incarnations of hardware are not simply for video games or for the kiddie age demographics. they are building media centers. so they want people to be able to show off their equipment. porn is just their way of marketing to everyone. you can watch whatever youre into: from anime to summer hits to porn. they got something for everyone. as much as we sweep it under the rug, porn is a serious industry and lots of money could stand to be made from it, and could sway more and more people into the sony camp. bottomline, thats all they care about in the end.
...I only bought it for the games!
