  2. Testing for understanding on Rich Kids Are Cheating in School With Apple Watches (theoutline.com) · · Score: 1

When are we going to start recognizing that people have access to the largest repository of human knowledge in all of history and start trying to test for understanding of material instead of regurgitating knowledge? At work I have access to the internet. It helps me make decisions and develop solutions. Why are we denying children that? The exams I had to take when I was younger was literally just regurgitating information. Rote memorization doesn't make for a very good understanding of material.

  4. The sum total of what you "owe" a corporation is jack shit. You are literally giving a part of your life so they can make money off you. It is better for yourself to let your current corporate overlord know that you're leaving so you can get a good reference if you think you'll get it, but otherwise it's not up to you to make finding a replacement easy.

Work to live, don't live to work.

  5. Cryptos are mined, which means over time more and more are added to the available pool. How does this fact fit into a "deflation mode"?

Incorrect: bitcoin is deflationary because it gets harder to mine over time, and the total bitcoin there will ever be is 21 million - that's it.

This is absurd. What the fuck are we paying for with our electrical bills? What a dumb argument to make. "stiff taxes on energy"... Jesus Christ. We can get electricity from any number of sources. Taxing the _energy_ itself is absurd. Tax dirty energy if you feel you have to.

Well for one, I don't think this is a document saying they have to accept all changes that anyone makes. It's saying: be nice about rejecting their shit. For two, open source software is an inherently social thing. You're building something with people for people. There's merit in realizing that communication and fostering healthy social atmosphere will lead to better software and a better community. No-one complained with i18n or a11y, because it is a good thing. Likewise, it is good to not be a dick about stuff.

This is utterly frustrating and totally true. I think having to purchase a ridiculously overpriced software in order to usefully send documents to each other is against humanity and detrimental to society. We should all be using an open format for documents - especially for future compatibility. Pages for Mac is exactly like this, too. :( I'm surprised this is not the number one reason you've moved to MSOffice though.

Forking is fun, and everyone should be forking like rabbits. The strong code will survive and the weak will dwindle and die out from resource starvation. Forking is a healthy practice in FOSS and should not be shunned.
