When are we going to start recognizing that people have access to the largest repository of human knowledge in all of history and start trying to test for understanding of material instead of regurgitating knowledge? At work I have access to the internet. It helps me make decisions and develop solutions. Why are we denying children that? The exams I had to take when I was younger was literally just regurgitating information. Rote memorization doesn't make for a very good understanding of material.
The sum total of what you "owe" a corporation is jack shit. You are literally giving a part of your life so they can make money off you. It is better for yourself to let your current corporate overlord know that you're leaving so you can get a good reference if you think you'll get it, but otherwise it's not up to you to make finding a replacement easy.
People like to be cynical - it makes them think they're better than what they are... If only they realized that we're all in this together, when someone does something great it makes us all greater!
This is absurd. What the fuck are we paying for with our electrical bills? What a dumb argument to make.
"stiff taxes on energy"... Jesus Christ.
We can get electricity from any number of sources. Taxing the _energy_ itself is absurd. Tax dirty energy if you feel you have to.
This guy might be right, but he's also a huge narcissist. This guy thinks he shits gold
He's a designer, it kind of comes with the territory, necessarily - if you don't believe in your designs you're not really putting your effort into it.
How many of you keyboard warriors complaining about "people's feelings" were abused in high school? Do you remember that shit? This is about defining that bad behaviour and excising it to make a healthier community.
You can still reject code. You can still reject changes. You just can't be an asshole/bully about it.
[...]There's simply no reason to accept someone or their work if it's sub-standard no matter how hard their lives have been (or are perceived to have been).
The issue of diversity is a social issue and has to be/needs to be solved elsewhere.
Well for one, I don't think this is a document saying they have to accept all changes that anyone makes. It's saying: be nice about rejecting their shit. For two, open source software is an inherently social thing. You're building something with people for people. There's merit in realizing that communication and fostering healthy social atmosphere will lead to better software and a better community. No-one complained with i18n or a11y, because it is a good thing. Likewise, it is good to not be a dick about stuff.
Language changes. There are plenty of words that describe something that we no longer use, in preference of other words. It is not offensive to change the terminology, so why bother keeping it? Tradition? Is that really a reason to keep something?
This is exactly like if you stored cash at somebody else's house and they got robbed. Do they have insurance? Did they say they would cover any theft of your money? If not, you're probably SOL.
I wish all these people who liked working for facebook liked being ethical more. Facebook is doing some really fucking scummy sketchy shit when it comes to people's privacy. It's not cool.
This is utterly frustrating and totally true. I think having to purchase a ridiculously overpriced software in order to usefully send documents to each other is against humanity and detrimental to society. We should all be using an open format for documents - especially for future compatibility. Pages for Mac is exactly like this, too.:( I'm surprised this is not the number one reason you've moved to MSOffice though.
I would guess that freemium games are what make them money. There's a lot of games out there that sell in game resources in order to progress more quickly - in this way you can give away a game and still make money. It's pretty wild.
This activity only dilutes the efforts to develop a FOSS alternative to MS Office.
"And we should only have one linux distro too! And only one car! And everyone should wear a turtleneck"
"But I don't like turtle-"
"SILENCE, HERETIC!"
Forking is fun, and everyone should be forking like rabbits. The strong code will survive and the weak will dwindle and die out from resource starvation. Forking is a healthy practice in FOSS and should not be shunned.
Fuck no. Ads can fuck right off.

Seriously, what a bunch of losers.

Work to live, don't live to work.
Cryptos are mined, which means over time more and more are added to the available pool. How does this fact fit into a "deflation mode"?
Incorrect: bitcoin is deflationary because it gets harder to mine over time, and the total bitcoin there will ever be is 21 million - that's it.

Why spend time on privacy when he's so busy smoking meat! https://youtu.be/eBxTEoseZak

So did Hillary, yet no one talks about her anymore.
LOL
People are like: "meh, they broke a contract" but if Apple did this, I bet there would be ravenous pearl clutching. The double standard is palpable.
Maybe the question should be: why aren't UI/UX designers donating time like developers are?
It's not punishment if it's self inflicted...

But the way this was all handled was utter bullshit.

Not everyone can be the entrepreneur/investor, there -have- to be workers to make the goods
What happens when everyone is an entrepreneur and the workforce is robots?
Or, you know, everyone working 80 hour work weeks could just not work 80 hour work weeks.
A previous company I worked for used some coders in the Philippines.
Better compatibility with outside vendors
