I remember one other one that was popular for a little while was http://meetmeinto.com/, and that quickly turned into a site for clubbers to chat and talk.

Even if you own something there are limitations under the law how you use it / run your establishment, and it is possible for Google to run afoul of them.

I agree with you 100%. If, for example, the owner of a flower shop told someone to leave their store just because of the color of their skin, people would complain (and rightfully so). The same should be said about google. A lot of people are making the "they can do whatever they want with their own software" pitch, which isn't true. Don't get me wrong, this lawsuit sounds like complete nonsense, but there are limits to how you can run your own website.

The big difference between what you stated and what Microsoft is doing is that Microsoft is pushing one product with another within their own company. The Mac games your daughter loves so much, were they created by Apple? It's one thing if a group of developers outside the company independently chose to create Vista-only games, but this is a completely different story.

My thinking for this article goes like this: Why would I pay for a newer operating system just to play a (single) game? I can just as simply save that money and buy a 360 altogether. I know Vista in the longrun will cause me a lot more headache (and therefore more money) than the 360 ever can. Also, a lot of other people I know seem to be very comfortable with their current XP operating system.

Everything you said is absolutely right... except that only someone with a firm understanding of computers and software would be able to accomplish them. I don't know of many normal people that virus scan every file that first comes into their computer, backs up their MOST important documents, and uses Firefox.

The fact is that, even as a computer science student, I don't use Firefox always (because I'm currently using Windows), I don't make daily backups because they can sometimes waste a lot of time, and I let my virus scanner scan regularly even after I know my computer has no viruses (luckily I use AVG which doesn't hog resources).

From what I gather, it was less about the story, and more about how many cool effects they could put into it just to show the general public that it can be done with free tools. It wasn't perfect, because you could notice their movements didn't seem real, even for surreal characters. It's impressive though, not Pixar impressive, but impressive enough for an open movie.

Less than $200? How many controllers does that come with? None? One? How much are the controllers exactly? If the system is $200 but each controller is $50, then I'd have to spend $400 on the system because the system seems to be made for four-player games. I think the question of how many controllers come with the base system needs to be asked? And how much will each controller cost?

In almost all of their preview videos, they show four or more people sitting in front of their TV playing the Wii. I haven't seen any similar videos for the other two consoles. This system looks fun to play; they are pushing people to believe (and rightfully so) that the Nintendo isn't just a console to play games on, but that it's a console which will take gaming back to what it actually is supposed to be... a means for socialization.

The original article states that Microsoft posted an operating loss of $388 million from their Xbox 360 production, but that this loss will bring "long term rewards". Didn't the Xbox experience similar losses? $388 is a lot of money which could be used hiring and training programmers to get Vista out of the door. Why does Microsoft feel it needs to stick its head into every single niche of every single sector? As if they didn't have enough troubles already with their own OS, they want to waste money competing against Google search, Google maps, Playstation, and Nintendo. They're bullying people at their own expense and they need someone to look at them and tell them what they're doing wrong, because they can't do it themselves.

It's only a name used to label the product; the name by no means has any effect on how good of a console it's going to be. I'm still going to buy it regardless of what they name it. Sooner or later these consoles were going to run out of good revolutionary (LOL) names to use, I'm glad Nintendo was the first one to step out and choose something unique with some meaning (check out their website for the explanation).
