.yosh, who's totally cool I know him textd me to say that Wizards of the Coast is totally making a My Little Pony Roleplaying Game!! OMG! Now I don't have to play with that stupid dungeons and dragons book with all the impossibly clothed women characters. Ponies 4EVA! From the site: "If it's on Butterfly Island, it's in the My Little Pony RPG core rulebook, and we expect the book to be an invaluable tool for RPG fans and game developers alike,' said Jonathan Tweet, senior game designer with Wizards of the Coast. 'Not only will this RPG appeal to current fans of My Little Pony, but it will also help core roleplayers come to appreciate the depth and possibilities in this unique fantasy world. I know I did.'"

      As one of the 1.7%, and never having played an online game, I would totally play a My Little Pony game. And it might even get me into the larger world of gaming. Also I really would enjoy the pink look as an option. Thanks, boys.

      This happens every year on April 1st. Most of the joke articles are always pretty lame jokes and they tend to carry one theme out until most slashdotters are begging for it stop. I'm sure they derive some sick pleasure from it :)

      In anycase, from your Slashdot ID, you've been around long enough to know how today works. So just sit back and show some pony love :) Or if you just can't stand it chill out, close your browser and go outside. Slashdot will be all normal and pony free again tomorrow.

      See, that's the thing - otherwise useful neurons are being occupied by this information. Worse, I have another daughter who's three months old, so I have to do this all over again in a couple of years.     My wife was very excited as I read this article to her. She thinks it would be great fun to play with the children she babysits, or our own children once we have them. She also thinks Care Bears et cetera would be good additions to the d20 universe. She was quite disappointed when I told her that it was an April fool's joke.

    Do they even realize what kind of a gold mine they could be sitting on if they could actually license the characters? How many little girls and their mothers and babysitters could be introduced to role-playing games this way? Talk about a gateway drug. Every study ever shows that girls are interested in narrative play more than boys. This is a no-brainer.

    Get her a copy of Steve Jackson's TOON RPG, then. It's geared more towards Warner Bros.-style slapstick cartoons, but you can easily adapt it to any other kidvid franchise you want. The rules are simple enough to teach to under-10s, and the games go pretty fast.
