This is not meant as a smartass, flame type question, but just what do you consider an unessential liberty? I think that the danger isn't the government just suddenly taking away all our freedoms...it's the slow, incremental loss of all those little ones that add up to losing it all. I don't thonk that we are near the lose it all stage, but I see the slide and it does worry me.

My High School (a couple of *cough* decades ago) was very much into the sports is #1 thing. We did have a yearend awards ceremony each year, and I can clearly remember our principal telling us all that in OUR school, we didn't just give out athletic awards, we also gave several academic awards. He seemed to think this was a truly great gesture on his part...10 minutes of the 2 hour ceremony actually was about classes. Needless to say, there wasn't exactly a big science department there. And from what I see as my son attends the same school, it's still the same.Luckily he gets quite a bit of science at home, and can think for himself.

  14. Re:Don't forget... on IL School District to Monitor Student Blogs · · Score: 2, Informative

The writeup is wrong. According to TFA, it's illegal or 'inappropriate' behavoir that will be punished. And that leaves a nice huge grey area. Although even if it was strictly illegal activity...would that mean that the school would only be able to punish students after they had been convicted? Because there is that pesky innocent until proven guilty thing to worry about. This is just a very bad idea from the start, and will probably end in the school system losing some lawsuits.

Not only that, but the server they are opening next month will be starting with the 'old world' type setting...no books to insta-travel with and so on. There seems to be a strong interest in it, which says to me that there are quite a few people who will trade new style convenience for old style immersion. Me for one:)
