So... how should I feel about the Blu ray format going forward? Do I side with Microsoft and HD-DVD or Sony and Blu-Ray. Sort of like surrending to Darth Vader or the Emporer? Either way you are on the dark side.
I sent an internet to everybody on slashdot regarding this but because of all those commercialist guys delivering stuff, it probably didn't get to you as the pipes were full.
You know, this thing isn't a truck that you can just throw stuff on...
Opera Browser has built in commands using mouse movements which will perfectly relate to the wiimote... Nice...
The price point on this will be interesting but it already looks like something my girlfriend will play compared to any console that has been in the past...
Last line of article: "So do not trust stats, they ARE inflated."
Like I have always heard in regards to statistics:
"Statistics are like loose women. You can do whatever you want with them"
Although I don't suppose most of us on Slashdot would know much about women, let alone loose ones...
So if I access a site at work and then access it at home, that's two IP's (two different computers and two different ISPs) but one user. Seems a bit high to say 10 but I could see 2 - 3...
From TFA: "36% of the IGN.com audience claims loyalty to the PlayStation 3 as their next-gen console of choice"
How can you have a loyalty to a product that hasn't been released?
I could see the Playstation brand but not the Playstation 3. We don't know anything about it. At least the 360 is out (judge it how you want at least it's actually available to judge...)
"Sony will win the high definition DVD format war,"
I think it's funny that it says they will win the high definition DVD war when they are competing against a product called HD-DVD with a product called Blu-ray.
If I am a unintelligent consumer, looking for high definition DVD's, I'll buy something called HD-DVDs, not Blu Ray DVD's.
I can't wait to hear the questions at the store "So this one is blue ray? Can I see the blue ray? Do HD-DVDs have blue rays? Does the player only play things that take blue rays? Is it similar/work with blue tooth?
Exactly what I was thinking... $2799 for a mirror. (O.k. I know there isn't pricing but I figure you would have to buy a MacBook Pro to get this...)
Reminds me of "The Onion" article talking about the $5000 Multimedia Computer System that downloads real time TV programs and displays them on the computer monitor:
http://www.theonion.com/content/node/39109
Let's consider the fact that he may be a shill for Sony in that he has only produced for their consoles so far. This is sort of like asking a Windows guy if he considers the new Apple computer/OS.. to be a new influence.
Of course he'll say he doesn't care, it's a gimmick... Same if you asked a Apple person if they thought Vista was going to be a breakthrough...
He's developed for one company and is loyal to them their systems. Then again, I didn't read TFA so I could be wrong
I got busted for trying to steal Legend of Zelda from a Target store when I was 13. Stupid me... my parents wouldn't buy it for me so I tried to get it free. Got busted and had to do a one day seminar thing for kids who screw up.
I learned my lesson... but bought it later on... It is a classic.
Take whatever you make and add an additional 20% to it. The 20% can be justified as benefits, time off, 401k, medical/dental... etc. Also, count your Employee Stock Purchase plan because that is also a value and it is part of your compensation.
Benefits count as far as compensation. Remember that.
Branon
You are all mistaken... the announcement that they aren't going to upgrade to some sort of next gen drive isn't the surprise... the surprise is that they are even commmenting on this...
I can tell you how many times I read "Microsoft does not comment... blah blah blah...
This reminds me of all the stoners back in High School who would make a bong out of anything... perhaps this is the geek version... "Check out what I made into an MP3 player... "You put your songs in it..."
I got my 360 on saturday (every10minutes.com) and they've done some pretty slick things here... just like mod points and karma on Slashdot, Xbox live (the online play portion of the Xbox System) has a gamer score and you can compare your "achievements" with others. Yes, it's not productive in a "contributing to society" sense but how has your modding and posting on Slashdot changed the world?
The thing that works great is this: Standardization. Everybody playing on the same system with the same specs and the same playing field from the start. If you are the better player, its because you are better. It's not that you downloaded some "hack".
It will take a bigger role in the living room than most people will think. I have been able to download game demos (Has any game console allowed this to date?), trailers, and music to the Xbox.
They may beat Sony by being first to launch but we all know it's about the experience and if people don't have a good time with it, they won't stick with it. May the best system win...
Microsoft is the distributor of the product. Target, Best Buy... etc. order and pay for the units at a fixed negotiated rate, right? Yes they want software sold but what do they care if all 20 get sold the first day or not? The demand is there and their bill is paid. It's not like they are getting a percentage of first day sales... they should be getting their money up front from the retailers. Plus, wouldn't they want THEIR launch games to go with the console rather than just ANY of the titles at launch?
It will be sold out regardless. Demand in the US and Japan will sell it out almost immediately. If Norway can't sell enough consoles, big deal.
Why would I try to win this year when the prize money doubles for next year?
"Next year, both contests will be repeated but the top prizes will rise to $100,000."
Let me guess... the year after that the prize money goes to $250k?
Sounds backward to me...
There are a ton of organizations that can help you, it all depends on getting the right help.
I would look to the other organizations out there that are recruiting your people away and do some of the things that they are doing or have put in place.
Training, pay/compensation, perks...etc. may solve problems short term but long term you need a strategy that will retain people because of the organization and the opportunities.
Also, ask everybody there what they would like to see change to make the place better. You all work there together, why not figure out how to make it better together. IT people see through half-assed efforts to make them feel "valued". But when a person says "This will make me happy" and you provide it, they can't really complain. Also, some people will never be happy regardless of what you do so be careful of what you provide or promise.
Maybe this will come with that Robot that the NES had at launch! That launch had two different packages... basic system with SuperMario and then the upgraded package with R.O.B. the robot, Light Gun and Duck Hunt and another game.
My guess is an upgraded Hard Drive and 1 year of Xbox Live service and possibly a game or controller.
Hmmm... perhaps Sony was just trying to help people "locate" stolen computers when their root kits were installed...

You found the reason Palm launched the Treo + Foleo (Fooleo). Increase shield +2.
Seriously though, that would be nice if it can do it.

Playa Hatin' was a joke... I couldn't possibly say that with any seriousness being a white male from the suburbs...
