Democratic Party Files Suit Alleging Russia, the Trump Campaign, and WikiLeaks Conspired To Disrupt the 2016 Election (cnbc.com)
The Democratic Party is suing Russia, the Trump campaign and the whistle-blowing website Wikileaks for conspiring to disrupt the 2016 presidential election. From a report: The multi-million-dollar lawsuit filed in Manhattan federal court says that "In the Trump campaign, Russia found a willing and active partner in this effort" to mount "a brazen attack on American Democracy," which included Russian infiltration of the Democratic Party computer network. The Trump campaign, according to the lawsuit, "gleefully welcomed Russia's help." The suit says that "preexisting relationships with Russia and Russian oligarchs" with Trump and Trump associates "provided fertile ground for [the] Russia-Trump conspiracy." The common purpose of the scheme, according to the Democratic National Committee, was to "bolster Trump and denigrate the Democratic Party nominee," Hillary Clinton, while boosting the candidacy of Trump, "whose policies would benefit the Kremlin." Tom Perez, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, said the party's suit "is not partisan, it's patriotic."
Clinton is running again, that should be obvious to all now. This is the funniest thing I've seen in a long, LONG time!
By actively preventing Bernie from getting the democratic nomination they made a Trump victory much more likely. Tons of people voted "not Hillary" with their Trump vote.
I'm not saying there was no Russian collusion, but lets look at all the reasons.
And more importantly Democratic Party got caught red handed by our Russian hackers conspiring to rig the primaries.
Time to stop publicly funding the partisan primary system. We shouldn't be publicly subsidizing secret cabals of rich well connected people conspiring to get "their people" into our government.
Frankly, this is utter insanity.
Don't attribute to malice, what can adequately be explained by incompetence.
To that I ascribe the activities of the Republican and Democratic parties that got us the 2016 election result.
This lawsuit is a media and money-grabbing stunt, that is also a further attempt to de-legitimize anyone who disagrees with you. Kind of like on Slashdot, where if you utter anything but a Trump slur, and are immediately called a Russian troll.
They couldn't stand the whisper campaign that Trump himself practiced for say, Obama's Birth Certificate, or Hillary Clinton's alleged crimes, they couldn't handle the investigation by Mueller despite calling for endless inquiries into Benghazi, Whitewater and whatever else. They couldn't even take it when people pointed out that Trump's endless pompous proclamations and self-professed boasting were challenged.
And wow did they howl when Trump's attorney got raided due to evidence of his acts of various malfeasance being too odious to ignore.
Now? Now it'll be something in a court of law, and everybody will get to watch.
Expect them to protest with their empty-handed declarations, that they'll make up in volume what they lack in substance.
No mention of the SecureWorks analysis in the lawsuit..?

Was the most interesting assessment.
This will be fun. Can't wait to see Podesta and Mook cross examined under oath.
This will get thrown out....
It will take awhile, to be sure, but it will get tossed by the first judge who actually looks at the lack of evidence.
Remember, you can sue ANYBODY for ANYTHING by walking down to the courthouse and paying the fees.

Up until now, the Democrats have generally behaved properly in respect of the Russia investigation, leaving the interference and unwarranted attacks on law enforcement to the White House and the Republicans. However, I was distressed to read about this.
It is totally inappropriate to engage in this kind of political theater while Mueller's investigation is ongoing. When Trump and the Republicans are lying and attempting to interfere, by all means denounce their actions forcefully. However, lowering yourself to their level just feeds into the narrative that all politicians are the same, and they are all unprincipled conmen. It makes it harder to defend the institutions that are under attack.
I really believe if a small group of 10 Democrats and 10 Republicans in Congress could come together to denounce all anti-democratic activities, and pledge to act together in the country's best interests, they would do themselves and the country a great deal of good. The silent majority would applaud them. I am not holding my breath. I appreciate, by the way, that acting ethically here is more difficult for the Republicans as their administration has a lot to lose. However, I think that they could present their actions as heroic and vastly enhance their personal reputations in the process.
Anything that distracts from the real news of what they were actually up to at the time works for them. They didn't consider Trump an actual threat, they anointed Hillary and damaged their own rather than let party supporters decide, broke laws, spun lies - you know same thing the Republicans do.
Both parties are rotten to the core and the system is set up in a way that you can't get rid of them. Good luck America, you're going to need it!
When I read the national chairman of a political party saying
I hear a gangster saying
--- Mercutio was right.
Why don't you instead try to convince people outside of your various interest and grievance groups that you are actually worth voting for?
Here's a tip: if a clown can beat you, the problem isn't the clown ...
Is that the Russians supposedly did a terrible, un-patriotic, anti-American thing, by revealing the truth to the American people. And people are screaming "oh my God, no! The truth is a threat to American Democracy!" I mean, does Hillary get any blame for what was contained in those emails? No. The evil thing was that the plebes found out what was in them. We basically operate under the assumption that, if we ever knew what they were saying behind the scenes, we would never vote for any American politician. I mean, perish the thought that we'd ever be relieved ... that we'd ever be pleasantly suprised were a politicians emails to be revealed. That's not even in the realm of possibility. The whole system is rigged so badly, that the truth, the TRUTH, is a poison pill for American politics. We really have nobody to blame but ourselves for this. Voting for the lessor of two evils for 200 years ensures we always get evil and we're clearly good with that. You can't make the arguement that we deserve better. So, anyway, yeah, Democrats suing for revealing the truth to the American people ... and proudly suing at that. Calling it Patriotic even. Weep for us.
The DNC definitely didn't help itself by putting forward such a boring, unpopular candidate and then doing seemingly everything they could to prevent Bernie from winning.
By actively preventing Bernie from getting the democratic nomination they made a Trump victory much more likely. Tons of people voted "not Hillary" with their Trump vote.
It's come out that Russia influenced this too. As soon as Bernie was out of the way, they doubled down stoking the fires to get Bernie supporters mad at Hillary. I doubt any significant amount of people who were voting on policy ended up switching, but those who were voting emotionally to begin with were probably pretty easy targets.
They're serving Wikileaks with discovery? Imagine what they'll find.
Discover will produce Nothing... Wikileaks has no presence in the USA so there is nothing within the jurisdiction of US law enforcement to discover. Same with the majority of the remaining defendants... There will be nothing to the court can do to force discovery.
Of course, that doesn't preclude Wikilieaks from providing information about this voluntarily. Assuage has already discussed how these E-mail's came into Wikileaks hands during a TV interview with Shawn Hannity, but I don't think the Democrats want that information out in the open because it pretty much ends this lawsuit.

Who is paying for all this? The DNC was reportedly broke at the beginning of the year. Are they taking money from campaign donations to fund frivolous lawsuits now? [source] http://theweek.com/speedreads/...
Sometimes, I ask people if we would be doing all of this Russia stuff had Hillary won? When I do, I get the strangest look as if they'd never even thought of it before. You kind of see the facial expression as they progress from suprised, to the realization that the answer is "no, we wouldn't care about any Russian collusion had our chosen candidate won." All this hand-wringing about Patriotism and American Democracy ... had said interference been in their favor, not a word would be uttered. In fact, we all know they'd be shouting down anyone who brought it up as a bunch of backwoods tinfoil-hat-wearing conspiracy theorists. SNL would be running end-to-end sketches about redneck Republicans crowing about "Russian Collusion". It's also ironic that this time, it's the Democrats decrying that foreigners are influencing our elections. These are the same people who think having to present ID at the polling place is xenophobic. Affluent Democrats used to be our intellectual elite. Now, they're just as easily lured down the path of blatant hypocricy, and they are just as blind to it as the religious right has ever been. Self-interest and nraccisim completely surpress what should be the ability to see contradictions with clarity, and reduce all people, regardless of political afliliation, to defacto tools of whichever powerful interest seeks to use them. The USA no longer has an intellectual elite. We no longer have any identifiable party which can can establish a claim to the moral high ground. Instead, we have two intensely self-interested factions taking positions and feigning endless outrage to establish themselves within the heirarchy of the (usually inherited) idiology group. As cliche' as it is to reference the movie Idiocracy, it's becoming increasingly clear that it was an extremely optimistic portrayal of this nation's future.
Hilary and the DNC actively promoted Trump, because they thought he was the easiest candidate to beat.
Hillary, far more than Russia, is the reason Trump is president.

The really funny thing about that election to me was, there was absolutely no other Democrat Trump could have beat - but there was no other Republican Hillary could have lost to.
Trump is lite a literal embodiment of proof there is fate or some higher power at work.

One can only hope...
But I like that you're being optimistic!!
Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.........
Even war had limits, and cruelty their limits.
People that say things like clearly don't know much about human history. It is in fact literally the opposite of what you are implying. Are losing sides in wars pressed into slavery? Rape, pillage, genocide? Yeah, an occasional malfunctioning smart bomb is waaaaaaay worse that any city burned to the ground in ancient times or city-wide carpet bombing of the not-so-distant past, amirite?
Why would you make such a stupid argument? Oh yeah...
You just have to have SOME sense that refuses to allow someone like Trump to hold office
You had an agenda you wanted to push. Look, just because you maybe recently became aware of the craziness in the world, does not mean that everything was peachy until then.
Democrats believes patriotism is not racism, lmao!

"The fortune of complaint is such that it elicits contempt rather than pity."
They had it in for him.
Back in '08, it was a very heated race between Obama and Clinton. Then in the Summer, they had a meeting with the Democratic party bigshots. After the meeting, Clinton drops out and leave the field open for Obama.
Then low and behold she is Secretary of State - a position in the old days gave credibility to a Presidential Candidate.
What I think? They all made a deal that she backs out for Obama with the understanding that she would be THE candidate in '16.
Then Sanders came in spoiling everything. (It didn't help that he called himself a Democratic Socialist which "Socialism" is a dirty word in this country. And add in the fact that the Dems wanted a candidate that could win in the general and get the Independents and moderate Republicans who are dissatisfied with their party having gone batshit crazy.
Add in the Republicans primary system and we now have a crazy porn star prostitute fucking adulterer Evangelical Christian kook in the office of President.
Anyway, no matter how you slice it, the Dems totally fucked up and new leadership will be needed. The old guard has to go.
DNC thinks it can prove what Mueller couldn't so far. Frankly, the collusion conspiracy theory is getting so tiring. The Dems have gone insane and they will lose the White House again in 2020 because they can't seem to offer any new vision for the party.
Not sure if any party is likely to pay up but you go for it.
I wonder if this lawsuit is intended to force Special Council Robert Mueller in some way. Perhaps they want to force him to speed things up because the Democratic party needs the investigation resolved one way or another before they plan their next race. The worst-case scenario for them would be to run Hillary on a platform of Trump-is-a-Russian-spy, then the investigation drops the case 48 hours before the election and the Democrats lose with egg all over their faces. Better to know the result, either way ASAP. Alternatively, maybe Mueller will be forced to step-in and ask the judge to stay the case until the investigation is completed, which would indirectly reveal some of what he has discovered (or not discovered). Or maybe they think they can leak something from the investigation early?
So why did they just start trying to influence elections in 2016?
The 2012 election would have been an excellent one to push a favorable person. You had them acting in Ukraine and would have wanted a President who did not to them for that? How about Syria they would have wanted a US President who would ignore their actions there? More importantly, they would have wanted a President who would ignore any intelligence agency knowledge that they were doing something.
So why did they wait until 2016 in order to try to get someone who would do all that?
This isn't about a stain on a blue dress.
Folks want to lock Clinton up for misusing State Department emails.
Trump's administration did the exact same thing and since they knew better, that's intent to commit a crime. But no screams of "lock them up!"
And there may be collusion with our President and a foreign power - a foreign power that wants to see our demise.
And you want everyone to move on because he won?
If this is what our country has become - our guy is in, so who cares how he got there! - then we don't deserve the freedoms we have.
Trump did look like the easiest candidate to beat.
I just said that is what the DNC thought. They, like so many other people, could not see what was plain - Trump was widely generally liked because of earlier TV efforts, but vastly more importantly than that Trump was well KNOWN before he was a candidate. That meant that pretty much no negative detail about Trump would have any effect, because people already "knew" who Trump was at a fundamental level. So they were pushing for a candidate immune to any negative publicity... does that seem smart to you?
The thing that really surprised me was that he managed to be nominated by the Republicans, I didn't think they were half that clever (and still do not, Trump basically made that happen against the will of the RNC. Good thing for Trump that will is something the RNC itself has pretty much none of).
Unfortunately, it turns out the American public actually *are* stark raving mad.
Given the choice between Hillary and Turmp America made the only rational choice, one based on past experience with Trump. As I said elsewhere Hillary is literally the only candidate Trump could have won against. That of course has changed now that Trump has a lot of credibility from actually being president, so he'll easily win re-election against any foreseeable Democrat.

Nothing from the Cohen raid will be admissable in court. It's all political theater.
Everyone already knew Trump was a vulgar clown. We voted for him anyway as a rejection of the establishment. Clinton, the DNC and RNC are all desperate to maintain that establishment and will do/say anything to preserve it.
They're serving Wikileaks with discovery? Imagine what they'll find.

It makes as much sense as saying, "I'm a liberal, but if I had to choose between two Republicans I'd choose [who cares]."
If your point was that Bernie wasn't close enough to being a Democrat to get votes from enough Democrats, you missed. If you point was that he'd have better chances in a party with different voters, sure.
Is it because the investigation is still ongoing and when one is running an investigation like this one doesn't make an announcement every time they've found something?
I bet it's that.
I ignore Anonymous Coward posts. If you want to discuss something, that's awesome. Log in.
Seriously.
No, it's not illegal for Trump to work with/through Wikileaks.
Nor is it illegal for him to talk to the Russians.
It isn't even illegal for the Russians to say something about the American elections. Or anything else, really.
And based on The Donald's actions since he got to be Pres, it's not like either the Russians or Wikileaks are controlling him. He seems to be the same old blustering nincompoop he's always been...
So, what's the point of suing? Other than, presumably, to influence voters leading up to the midterms. Which is no more or less illegal than what they're accusing the New, Improved, Axis of Evil (The Donald, Wikileaks, the Russkis) of doing....
"I do not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"
Okay, yeah, sure. Literally every bit of evidence shows it was the DNC, FB peeps, and the Russians who worked together to try to defeat Trump, but that's a nice distraction. After all they've got to try to salvage something from their collusion disaster.
This will certainly be interesting, that's for sure.

from the right wing Corporate Dems. They don't have any issues to run on for the Mid Terms so they're doing this. Seriously, besides maybe doing smaller tax cuts for the rich and not gutting Obamacare they've agreed on Trump on almost everything. This is to distract from actual left wing economic policies that people want, to wit: 1. Medicare for all.
2. End the Wars (8 and counting).
3. Fix out crumbling infrastructure and dangerous bridges.
4. A New New Deal.
5. College for All.
6. Legalize Marijuana.
Those are the issues 60%-80% of Americans want (depending on how you ask the question, e.g. if you ask "Do you think the government should guarantee every American healthcare" you get 80% if you ask "Would you support a Government takeover of the Healthcare industry" you get 60%).
But the Corporate Dems masters, the ones who buy them off with the legalized bribery of campaign contributions, don't want to pay for all of that. So we keep hearing about Russia and Stormy Daniels.
Meanwhile Trump's on track to cruise into a second term...

They alledged Comey interfered, and demanded he be fired, when he was investigating Hillary’s email server being a national security threat. Or that the DNC and Hillary paid for the work of fiction known as the Trump Dossier, authored in part by Russian operatives under guidance from a former British spy? Or on more practical consideration that no proof has been shown of connections between “Russian collusion” and Trump? And intelligence agencies have repeatedly said there is no such evidence. Lots of smoke and mirrors, but it’s a photo of a dog and painting of the pony, so not even a good show...

I am in wallow with my inner money grubbing capitalistic pig. ... Oink!
And if Hillary hadn't devised the "super delegates" scheme to steal the convention votes, and state monies for her own campaign, Bernie would have won and run against Trump. Not that Bernie would have won, but at least he would have won the Democrat nomination as fairly as Democrats can run elections.

Hey, anyone read the actual complaint? Check out "Count VI" (around page 49). If you're playing the drinking game, here's where you have to chug.
Plaintiff's computers contained information subject to copyright (campaign strategy and opposition research). They were protected by technological measures (passwords). The technological measures were circumvented (passwords were stolen) without authorization. Ergo: DMCA violation.
People, please remember: if you don't grant and protect copyright for political parties (and religions; you'll see why I bring them up, below) on their campaign strategy documents and opposition research, they won't have incentive to create those strategies and opposition research! You copyright-violating DNC-hackers are retarding the progress of science and useful arts!

It get better: accessing this stuff "caused significant damages" in "loss in the value of DNC trade secrets." I am not making this up; I am quoting the fucking document. They actually said that.

Great going, Democrats: you reminded me of Scientologists, used one of the stupidest and evilest laws that America has (DMCA), and you abuse copyright too. So while we all agree that we hate Trump, thanks for reminding me that any conscientious person should hate you too.

because Trump really, really wants a war and NK seems to have backed down as a result (though I don't think they're really going to give up their nukes, they learned the lesson we taught Saddam & Gaddafi).
Trump had nothing to do with the economy or Isis. That was Obama, and if he'd had a left wing Congress (and no, I don't mean a bunch of right wing Dems) he could have done more. Trump has deregulated Wallstreet (with the help of those right wing Dems). That's going to blow up in our faces just in time for a Democrat to take charge, clean up the mess and get blamed for it. Like it always happens. Please, please pick up on this pattern and don't fall for it again. I'm tired of rebuilding my life every 10 years when right wing politicians tank the world economy, aren't you?

How is this marked insightful. Gee the partisan blinkers are strong. Does anyone seriously believe that the economy turns on a dime when a new president takes over, like it's some sort of sports car? Professional economists are still arguing about the causes and properties of the business cycle, but all ye partisan hacks have all the answers. Perhaps you should publish some journal papers that explain what professionals have been missing in over a century of academic discourse on the issue.
And and idiot could have guessed that ISIS would continue to lose territory in the Levant. Heck, if America were to put boos on the ground, it would have taken weeks, but the previous administration let local coalitions take care of the situation in a slow grind that took years. Isn't that want the American public wanted? Or are you just impressed that the endgame occurred when your favorite politician was in the white house. You know, 'cause you're so smart.
And North Korea is _NOT_ on the verge of denuclearizing. They're just saying their not doing more tests. And North Korea has a long history of saying one thing, and doing another. They were on the verge of abandoning their nuclear program in the 90s too, but it turns out that they were just playing everyone for fools.
And who cares if they're stopping nuclear tests: they already have working nukes. The USA doesn't do nuclear tests either, but that doesn't mean the USA isn't a nuclear power, or on the verge of denuclearizing.

The DNC is suing the Trump campaign because Trumps Russians were better than Hillarys.
Just to be clear, the Hillary campaign is suing because alleged Russian collusion limited them to 'only' raising $1.2BN compared with trumps $697M?
The DNC is suing because their emails, which have never been proven to be tampered or forged, were released to the public, embarrassing the democrats?
To sum up, democrats felt out-raising their opponent 2:1 and their internal communications being exposed cost them the election...

Globalism has made it so you have this website to complain about it on.
Assange said it wasn't a government actor. Others with connections to Wikileaks have said it was a leak from inside the DNC (which wouldn't be surprising, there are of course members in the DNC who get annoyed by corruption).
It's worth noting that there are several sets of emails, and keeping track of them all and where they came from can be confusing.

Or that's just the narrative that the Russian agent told the wikileaks rep when he handed over the USB drive.
I'm aware of three sets of emails.
1) Hillary Clinton's emails on her private server. Never hacked, the subject of legal investigation .
2) The DNC emails hacked and leaked by Russians.
3) Podesta's emails phished and leaked by Russians.
And we have really good evidence that the DNC emails were hacked by the Russians, not only do we have the digital forensic evidence, which if nothing else is inconsistent with a leak. But we have Russian agents telling a member of Trump's campaign about the emails well before they ever went public (and probably before they got to wikileaks). That alone is a very strong piece of evidence suggesting collusion.

Why does that matter? He would for sure have lost to Clinton.
But the winner of Jeb vs Hillary would have been irrelevant to me; unlike all of the other people who claimed to want to leave when Trump was elected, if we faced an election between another Bush and Clinton I would have moved to New Zealand long before the election was over. It would have been the final sign any sign of Democracy was over and we were back to Royal Rule.
So actually it would have gone very well for me indeed; New Zealand seems like an awesome place to live.

For those claiming this is absurd, keep in mind that the DNC also sued Nixonâ(TM)s re-election campaign after the Watergate break in. Everyone said it was a crazy political ploy, but we know how that turned out (the DNC was awarded $775,000 in damages after the truth came out).
This last election, we were treated to the incompetence of the DNC and the rampant corruption inside the DNC.
The increased acceleration of arrogance and hostility of Democrats demanding my vote, as opposed to actually earning it by discussing issues, it all speaks loudly for itself.
Corporate Democrats are functionally no different than Republicans, and supporting the Democrats ongoing, rampant corruption and greed is a hypocrisy I can no longer tolerate.
Yes, the Republicans are shitbags, clearly. And the Democrats are lying corporate apologist shitheads. We are fucked so long as we keep falling for these idiots horse shit and lies and warmongering.
Warmonger Democrats are not my friends, sincerely with all my heart, fuck you idiot, lying, warmongering Democrats.

ACTUALLY.. We don't have what you think..
1. Hillary's server "Was likely hacked, but we will never know it" (According to the head of the FBI James Comey). The issue is the original hardware was lost and the drives where bleach bit washed, so no evidence (this side of an admission by a foreign power) exists to prove this happened. However, I find it highly unlikely Comey was wrong about this. Hillary's private mail server was: 1. A well known secret because the domain was in DNS and she used it extensively overseas in hostile places. 2. Running Microsoft's E-mail "exchange" on 3. A windows server. 4. Was not, according to the records available, both hardened, regularly patched and professionally monitored. It was in a bathroom closet for the longest time...
2. We don't know the Russians did this. Assange says he didn't get them from a "state actor" (i.e. a country) and in the absence of evidence to the contrary what can we do? Also, the DNC does NOT have "really good evidence" of anything. They have an "investigation" done by "Cloud strike" and that's it. Comey again speaks to this when he says that the DNC "REFUSED the FBI's help" in this investigation. Why did they do this? So I'm not sure if the Russians did this or not, or if it's a cover story cooked up by Hillary and the DNC to keep the lie alive. We will never know, unless the DNC kept the proof around and allows the FBI to investigate this by doing the forensic analysis of their network to prove it. I don't think they kept the hardware and they already refused the FBI so we have no proof now.
3. Podesta's emails where hacked by a phishing scam. Might it be the Russians? Perhaps... So? Podesta was an idiot to fall for it, but hey... One thing is totally clear, Trump's campaign didn't have anything to do with it.
Finally, the myth that Trump's campaign knew about all this before it got released is false and based largely on some errors in "investigative reports" where the dates on E-mail's where misread by 10 days or so. They found out when the rest of the world did. I suggest you check your facts.
But all this betrays the real issue... What did those hacked E-mails show? Most democrats don't know what these E-mail's actually show. I'm guessing they don't really want to know what kind of people run the DNC and what kinds of schemes they run and attitudes they have. Deep in the bowels of the DNC is some pretty nasty stuff, yet we don't hear about that much....

Cheated it's ass off to prevent their shoe-in candidate from losing to Bernie Sanders by:
* Providing questions to Hillary Clinton prior to debates.
* Colluding with media, such as Huffington Post, to essentially print article after article to support Hillary (also known as illegal unreported campaign contribution).
* Magically tossed 6 coins and had them all come up in favor of Hillary Clinton.
* Party famed for leaving dead people on it's voting rolls, so they can keep voting, suddenly without any explanation, has hundreds of thousands of voters purged from its records....primarily in pro-Bernie Sanders areas.
* Young Millenial who seems to voice some objections, found robbed and murdered, except he was left with his wallet and all his valuables.
* Delegates for Bernie Sanders who won fairly per the rules, were prohibited from attending or had their credentials given to others.
* Numerous DNC reps on the take for Hillary
* DNC/Hillary colluded in fundraising, allowing Hillary's fundraising to benefit the DNC in exchange for internal support
* Superdelegates sold before the race even began
And so many more acts...
Yet the media is silent, endeavoring to blame HRC loss on Russian's and Trump colluding. It's all a red herring to keep folks distracted from the real cheating that transpired.
