Moves like this, making their site more clunky are what is going to drive people to Google+. When Facebook started they were lean and mean (at least compared to MySpace). They seem to have forgotten this philosophy of simplicity and are simply trying to cram as many bells and whistles as they can into their site.
Are you an idiot or something? Do you think someone's going to hold a seance with the long-dead framers of the Constitution, and ask them their opinion on the issue, then write an article on their paranormal findings for us to provide a citation?
This is easily the stupidest "[citation needed]" post I've ever seen on Slashdot.
I get the sarcasm and the fact that this was modded insightful to grant karma to the poster. But, the fact that it was modded this way got a pretty good laugh from my officemates. Now back to your regularly scheduled police-state.
I'm not sure how you're expecting to burn your karma. Truer words are seldom spoken and if/when I have kids, you'd better be damned sure that the first thing that they're taught to doubt will be any government.
I typically don't respond to AC's and I'm sure you've heard this before...but if I take a picture of a mountain, I can enjoy that picture at home and the mountain is still there. Downloading != stealing, it is copyright infringement and as the parent pointed out with the way that copyright law has been abused, it is a law that should be disobeyed. When I have kids I plan on teaching them that killing and stealing are wrong and have no plans of including copyright in my lesson plan other than the way it has been used to rob the consumer blind for the last 80 years.
Once you get rid of all of the undesirables...would California be interested in a few Nevada residents? I hate the snow and love the beach, I may be in the wrong state. I promise to not let Microsoft drive my car and to never vote ex-movie stars into public office.
As a current Nevada resident, I feel that driverless cars can only be an improvement from the massive influx of Californians escaping their debt-ridden state.
I just hope the T-Mobile merger doesn't go through. I may only have 2GB with them, but if I go over there is no overage, just the possibility of being throttled (note: I have yet to be throttled, even at 3.8 GB last month).
Believe it or not, I'm dating a girl who can do most of those things, but is not a billionaire. And in full disclosure has been out of college for two years and had to be converted to the vi camp by yours truly.
Agree completely. My graduate education was almost completely liberal arts, I only had a token EE class as an undergrad (CS major) and I still spend a ton of time with my soldering iron. I consider myself a geek, although I play city-league basketball and don't live in my parent's basement so maybe I'm a hybrid. I guess the point of my rambling is that the need to create is what defines me as a geek, not any pseudo-intellectual ivory tower nonsense.
...Considering millions of people her age had no problem with it, I'd argue the latter.
I'm not sure about that...from what I've seen of elderly drivers it very well could be a bad interface. Every time I've almost been run off the road on my motorcycle it's been an old person. In fairness though the last one (4 days ago) was texting and driving so at least they have one interface down reasonably well.
Yes and no. I have friends (typically video geeks) who use Firewire for doing mass transfers because it is more efficient than USB 2.0. I'm not sure we can call Thunderbolt dead in the water since as far as I can tell it wasn't really touted as a replacement for USB 3.0. For what it's worth, I believe that it will be used by the Mac crowd for awhile and then become relegated to the same niche market that Firewire currently occupies.
I think you're trying to force a false dichotomy on the discussion. I know a number of people who believe that if you're not an Apple fanboy, you must be a PC fanboy. I would wager that a good number of posters here would agree that a computer is a tool and that we use the best ones available for the money that we have. I wouldn't even go so far as to say that Apple's hardware is "high quality", or at least of no higher quality than the exact same stuff you can get off the shelf at Fry's or on Newegg.
I tend to agree with you on all of your points, I switched my parents to Ubuntu several years ago and haven't had more than two service calls since. While I'm certainly no Microsoft apologist, I do in my own cynical view hold users somewhat responsible for irresponsible behavior. To use a labored non-car metaphor, it is definitely legal to walk through downtown Detroit at midnight wearing all of your bling and bragging about how much money you have, but the rational side of you has to assume that there is going to be trouble. There is nothing inherently wrong with running XP sans service packs, IE6, and clicking "yes" on every dialog box that pops up, but you have to share some of the responsibility for your actions.

I wonder if there will be any fallout from this...
Don't remind me, I just hit that milestone a month ago. I'm told it's all downhill from here.

Things are different today, I hear every gamer say. Now pardon me as I run to the shelter for a gamer's little helper.
I don't think he meant "throttle" as in bandwidth...

Multiplying the discord among slashdotters!

but ...IANABM
Don't feel bad, I'm not a Black Mage either.
Excellent point. I wasn't trying to be snarky, just legitimately curious about the law.
I was under the impression that a contract cannot take away rights guaranteed by the constitution. Am I wrong?
Without that pretentious little apple logo and the "Designed in California" placard I'm not entirely sure how a consumer would be confused.
Why not just make 10 the highest?

I guess having a mod of "Sadly insightful in a funny way" wouldn't work.
