Well, no. What I want is critical mass. Enough people using the system that hardware manufacturers cannot afford to ignore it. How much of a market share that is I don't know but it's a lot more than what we have now. It would be nice to be able to buy pretty much any kit and know you could put your favorite distro on it without heartache and fits. It's probably a fine line to walk. Market share attracts the kind of pests that plague Windows.

However, I do find it worrisome that several jurors basically said that they convicted him because they didn't like him.

The last time I sat on a jury there was one member who just wanted to nail the defendant because said defendant was obviously a creep. On trial for assault, the DA presented an absolutely terrible case leaving nothing but reasonable doubt and a cloud of contradictory testimony by a bunch of rednecks who were apparently feuding with one another. It took some doing to convince our hold-out that not guilty was our only option. (I would like to have seen someone from the prosecutor's office penalized for pursuing such a loser case and waisting my time and taxpayer dollars.) But yes, that is worrisome.

How about it. Because the people who are steering the ship of humanity are not scientists. They are motivated by immediate money and power concerns. It's better that Gore stir some shit up and get these issues out in front of everyone. That said, using food for automobile fuel is insane.
