Now then, just wait for the modchips with the old firmware on it pre-exploited to run a new dash, with a on off switch. Flick switch, Homebrew dash! Flip switch, Xbox live! Best of both worlds. As I said, just have to wait:D
Why is it that this is illegal. Its about as illegal as me reading the source of a web page to learn HTML then writing my own page.
Its just stupid. If they didn't want to let anyone do this then why release the god damn information publicly? They're just begging for it. Combine that with the fact that the odds of them getting rid of this app is about the same and DivX killing XviD, they're stuffed. Why not just give up like everyone says. Stupid MAFIAA. Lock em' in a big padded room with boxes of their products, so that they think their stuff is protected, and let them rot.
That may be so, but as you yourself agreed, you said Emulator, and combine that with the fact that using a emulator is legitimate, whereas using the Xbox dev kit is not, and also the number of home users that could even USE a emulator, let alone the damn Dev kit, your arguement is useless:D - Not ment as a flame either, just a reply which seems slightly agressive.
We now have a plausable defense vrs organisations like the MPAA! "You! You did xxxx with our video, we demand compensation! etc.etc."
"No. I used it privately!" "Foiled."
Yay! Download like mad!
Hey, a little fact here for you, Halo was in Developement for 2 years for PC, it would have been more or less a straight port as has been mentioned, and would have been even simpler due to the fact that the Xbox uses a hacked up DX and Windows Kernel. The system requirements, while higher than the Xboxes, are actually quite low really, and the only reason the Xbox could play it is due to optimisation. Wouldn't it be ALOT easier to make shirts for everyone on the planet if they all took a Small? Thats more or less what its like with Xbox, but for PC's, these shirts need to be Medium and made out of Elastic, so they will work and do their job for everyone. Also, gamer's dont always have cutting edge stuff. take me for example, I am a gamer, even more so when I got this hardware then now, and my rig is a AMD Athlon 64 3000+ with 1gb of RAM and a 6600GT AGP. Sound very high end? Its what you get in a $1200 HTPC now. You know how long I've been on this rig? half a year, if that.
Well, you sir, are most definately uninformed. Have you taken a look at the state of xbox emulation on Windows (I cant comment on Mac or Linux, but Windows will be first to get it for numerous reasons including the fact Xbox uses a modifyed DX)? There are 2 games that will run on the 2 emulators playably, Turok on CXBX or whatever it is (cant remember it), which got abandoned and is close sourced, and Halo another Emulator I can't remember. These games are both ported, and to boot, run like crap in the emulator compared to natively. Now, since the Xbox uses a Freakin' Celeron Processor and a Hybred GeForce 3/4, and uses a modifyed Windows OS with DX, why is it this consoles is terribly emulated? Do your research before making posts where you blatantly state somthing.
Look, They may as well slap a R18 Sexual Content and Violence on it, because lets face it, someone, somewhere, is going to work out how to make a walking penis with testicle feet. They may as well just get around to that fact now. Saves time, ya see?
The concerning thing is, it still sounds like ANUS when slurred. Maybe they only want the drunkards to catch on? Afterall, what can drunk people do? They'll forget everything in the morning.
How would this function exactly? They'd need it to be encrypted the whole way for it to be safe from the "fair use" squad, and, lets face facts here, there has to be a point of software de-encryption, or else you would need to have a extremely elaborate setup which could easily be cracked, or failing that, a built in Movie Player Firmware in all devices (rendering blu-ray/HD-DVD drives released before X rendered useless unless the firmware (if released) has been upgraded to x) and even then, it would have to be a bootos, because otherwise they're still putting the movie at risk. More or less, the only way that could work is if they totaly severed the format from being PC compatible for any sort of playback, and that is nothing but a slowdown.
Its baiting. Its like saying "HEY! HE STOLE MY CAKE!" "The cake was left completely unprotected with a label on it saying "Free cake, Help yourself"." "Doesn't matter, he took it!" "It wasn't even cake. It was gruel.". Lets face it, what do they have agaisnt them? They cant really do anything legally, can they. They're not even downloading the damn movie/music/show, they're downloading the 350mb garbage file. Now, if they could prosocute because of that and confiscate the computer, what if I decided I was funny and uploaded a torrent of me taking a bath butt naked to TPB and then named it somthing like "Pokemon Season 4 EP 2". Would that grant Nintendo the right to press charges and demand sezuire of their computer? Hell no. All it would be worth is maybe forking your own eyes out. Seriously, this is just blatant abuse, and any Judge/Jury stupid enough to give this crap a foot hold might as well just say "Your exempt from the law. GO WILD!". Thank god I'm in NZ, where the copyright laws are less crappy, and the MPAA cant do jack shit directly to me:D.
Real world example? Guide to install quake 3 (Alot of people would have a use for this migrating from windows) one of the first things it says to do is LOGIN AS ROOT, INCLUDING A GUIDE
I agree with all your points completely, but would like to add that its not just that people dont buy Windows to upgrade, but people generally treat their computer as they would any other modern consumer electronic stuff and get rid of them instaid of upgrading/fixing them. Also, combine this with the fact that Microsoft is mainly kept afloat by OEM and Corporate purchasers (honestly, do you think its even WORTH selling their OSes by themselves at this stage? I dont), Microsoft is in a good spot. It'd take a good quick kick to boot them off their seat, and the only corporation I can see getting the boot in time right now would have to be Apple. At the moment, Linux still doesn't have a hope with the main consumer market, and it wont untill its being sold on the budget computers instaid of Windows.
"The first time someone's running as root and downloads an untrustworthy file..."
But that's not really an issue is it? What Linux distribution has the default user as Root these days? In fact, it's more difficult to run as root in some distributions instead of as a normal user, in that the "root account" is never enabled. Attempt to login to (X,K,Ed)Ubuntu as root at the login screen and it won't work. ------------- While that may be true, you want to know how much effort its required to enable that? not much. Open the Accounts menu, tick a box, and it works. Now, thats somthing that the basic ubuntu user could easily do, isn't it? Combine that with the fact you can easily use a Terminal on any account and run it as root, it doesn't leave much protection does it? "Quake 3 With Mega Graphics!" "Run this as root by doing x, then your done!" *Crash* - Bye bye security.
That may be true that its not hard to learn Japanese. It IS hard to learn Japanese and retain it for more than a day or so. Hell, the only Japanese I can remember is your a idiot, your a pervert, whats your name, my name is and how to count to 99. maybe a few other tidbits I cant recall. and thats in Romanji. Theres also Katakana, Hiragana and the other forms you need to know. Romanji is just plain ol' english text. Just think about that, its alot for the adverage english speaker to take in.
Yes, but in the mean time you'll only be sucking in the first "Wave" of buyers, and a few stragglers every now and then. OEM's will stop as less people buy OEM stuff, and normal users wont buy it because everyone who uses it says its bad and they lost xxxx and xxxx happened to them after. I doubt it'd be feasable. Definately not as feasable as just fixing the bugs, or better yet, make a new windows with the old NT Kernal sandboxed so it has backwards compatibility yet more stability and less bugs. Sounds good to me.
I love that book, the god of hangovers XD
This list is pretty intresting. I want that science kit. Hey neighbour, press this button when I'm 500 yards away!
Actually, if you go with a Creative, definately skip the Neeon, MAYBE a Neeon 2, but not the original HDD driven version. Maybe you havn't used any other MP3 player, but there are pauses of up to 3 seconds between songs on my Neeon. Otherwise I reccomend getting a Zen, they're great. the bundled mediasource software is aweful really, so I'd steer clear of that, but the player will mount as a USB Mass Storage device and uses normal M3U playlists in a folder aptly named "Playlists". So yeah, get a Creative, but try get at least a Neeon 2, or a Zen Micro or somthing. they own.
*Dies laughing*
Oh. I wasn't laughing at the joke. I was laughing at the failure.
Anywho, Another Linux distro for me to think "Hmmm. maybe THIS will work?" and run smoothly for a while, then the bastard errors will show up, refusing me somthing. First Ubuntu decided I dont need networking. Mandrake decided it doesn't love any of my hardware. Ubuntu then decided that Windows XP should die, along with my personal files *COUGH DEFINATELYNOTDOWNLOADEDGAMES* and then it picked on Win 98 as well. Finally Ubuntu then made Vista just stop booting. Linux is too much for me. Hardware is volitile. I JUST CANT HANDLE IT.
Now then, just wait for the modchips with the old firmware on it pre-exploited to run a new dash, with a on off switch. Flick switch, Homebrew dash! Flip switch, Xbox live! Best of both worlds. As I said, just have to wait :D

Why be a AC? You seem to forget two things. 1. Microsoft is more or less satan, corprotized, and 2. You have a extremely good point.
The concerning thing is, it still sounds like ANUS when slurred. Maybe they only want the drunkards to catch on? Afterall, what can drunk people do? They'll forget everything in the morning.
Shh. No need to be paranoid. Everything will be ok- What was that noise? OH NO! THEY FOUND ME! *laser gun sounds* *End Transmission.*
Wouldn't you assume they'd use the same standard as the adverage touch typing test where 4 characters including spaces etc. = 1 word?
I've never ever heard those words used together. EVER. I'm a kiwi too. On the other hand, I know a little bit of Maori, so it probably helps.
