Okay, so TiVo's are useful, right? You have a computer if your reading this right? Then why not just dish out $100 and get a Digital TV Tuner. It'll turn your computer into a DRM-Free TiVo-like device. Why make a box for MythTV? Why not just use your CURRENT box? or better yet, do some trading with old parts. You cant tell me you dont have something. I just traded a set of speakers for a AMD Athlon XP 1.3ghz, 256mb DDR RAM, a Gigabyte Mobo AND a MX 400. All sufficent for a MythTV box, am I correct? Seems cheaper than a TiVo, and more convenient to MOST of you here, so why all the fuss?
Its not driver compatibility or anything, I've been able to get linux to work fine a few times, Its more the fact everythings working fine then linux pulls a microsoft on me and decides "Its time to die!" and wrecks itself and possibly other OS's.
Because it looks like it... that or else there was no article to begin with. Reguardless, its kind of annoying not being able to read the article. Not to mention I dont know what kind of system these comparisions were made on. How would a Min XP install compare to a Min Vista install? I needs to know now! I have to have windows. Linux isn't a option. Linux hates me. I install Linux, GRUB wont load it without me editing the paths each time, and it decided to try shove itself into my XP NTFS partition last time. IT HAS IT IN FOR ME.
Yes, thats true, but face facts here, most of the faults with the PS3 and be fixed up with (Hopefully unless sony has made ANOTHER blunder) a Firmware Update. And the adverage user isn't going to think "Gee, this movie sure would look better on a *Insert Superior Blu-Ray/HD-DVD Player Here*" their going to think "Wow! This is waaay better than my DVD Player! OFF WITH ITS HEAD!". And to be honest, I dont think many users will notice the faults. Higher quality video IS higher quality video, no matter what you do with it (Unless you manage to slip in random images taken at 64x64 resized to 1280x1024). And I never heard of that Blu-Ray player before, so sorry about that:P. Combine that with the fact the adverage home user will use it for games, and the (as far as I've seen) heavily emphisised fact that the PS3 CAN play Blu-Ray, its probably going to be the dominant player for a while. Remember, consumers dont think purchases through as much as they should. Even when they do, the market is so damn flooded with products you might as well just throw a dart at a flyer and hope.
Actually, The PS3 would be a viable purchase JUST for Blu-Ray playback, simply because is so damn dirt cheap compared to a full player. a 60gb PS3 will cost LESS here than a Blu-Ray player FOR PC. PC players are generally the cheaper kind. Think about it.
Hey! My DSLite is offended by your blatant discrimination against its colouring! The correct term is "Not-White-But-A-Dark-Gray". Anyway, This trend has been on for a loong time. Way to go, lets slashdot this article to tell them "WE DON'T CARE". Wait.... Don't do i-NO ROUTE TO HOST
Wish I was down south, It'd be great to see it. You'd think that we'd be able to see it at one stage though, so lets hope. I wonder whats happening now? A reporter was on a high point at one stage, not even a day later it colapsed and fell into the water. Lucky break for him anyway.
Actually, You can sell your games. Simple as hell for the seller, but it can be a nightmare for the buyer. You simply sell the DVD/CD, CD Key and thats it. The whole damn thing, done. And for them to play it? They have to send in the CD Key and $10 to Valve and say "Hey! This game is registered to another steam account! Mine is ****@***.***, Register it to this please!". Then, they get the game. Simplish. ish.
When HAVN'T Microsoft tried prettying up their GUI's to make people go "Oooh, purdy windows! get windows!". Lets face it, it works. really all thats happening is that they're just cranking up the "lets make it purdyer!" factor. The sad thing is, it works O_O
Indeed, but, fortunately, it doesn't require a modchip. all it requires is for you to softmod the Xbox, and possibly replace the Harddrive in it (to make it easyer for Linux). Softmodding, for the uninformed, is a exploit in a few games save game systems (Mech assault being one of them), which allows unsigned code to be run. using a hacked save, it runs a linux program and adds Evolution X (a Dashboard replacement) and a few other bits and pieces to the Xbox. Nifty eh?
Hah, finally, a use for the paperweight!
Man, if this gets noticed by the right people, it could very well help alot of people. Its amazing, some of the stuff people do with things like this.
