Pffft... I don't know what a CoDec or a Linux is, but it plays on my Internet just fine. You're guilty, if only because computer technology is a huge, ominous, confusing black box for 98% of society.
Will linux users not be able to play against PC users either? Of course they will. Windows and Linux support the same computer architectures and implement the same network protocols. The biggest reason most game developers don't support Linux is because most games are developed using the Microsoft's DirectX graphics libraries. The Unreal Tournament series, as well as the Quake series, have always supported OpenGL, a set of open graphics libraries. Hence the name. Plus, I doubt that the server you will be playing on will be running Windows anything.
I find it disturbing that skeptics have labeled "deniers" in when it comes to the climate change arena. This trite rhetoric suggests that anyone who dares question the causes of global warming is contradicting absolute and established fact, not to mention the implicit associate a different, and more loathsome, kind of denier. In case you've forgotten, or you simply don't understand the concept, a good scientist is first and foremost a skeptic. So, I'm going to go ahead and exercise my right to be skeptical until I see absolute and conclusive proof that human beings are a major contributing factor in global climate change, mmmkay? And in case you're wondering, I don't take this is sufficient grounds to avoid finding cleaner and more efficient energy sources for the human race, because there are plenty of other good reasons for that.
Ant colonies aren't smart either. That's akin to saying a computer is smart, which in inaccurate. A computer executes pre-programmed algorithms specific to solving a particular problem. Similarly, through millions of years of evolutionary reinforcement, ants are programmed to solve very specific problems very efficiently. A cataclysmic environmental change would mean death to a colony, however, because like a computer, an ant colony is unable to solve problems outside its context. Therefore, intelligence is not a factor.
Good. Despite my displeasure with the MS/Novell deal, I think it's best not to create in-fighting within a community that has worked so hard to get where it is in the market. Divide and conquer is an old trick.
There is undoubtedly a sizeable audience for this kind of game, but it's understandable that RockStar would not want to release the game with an AO rating, as certain large resellers (Wal-Mart?) will be unwilling to carry the title. Perhaps the solution is to release two different versions of the game. I, for one, would like to play the AO version, but in order to placate overly-protective parents around the globe, RockStar could release a watered-down version for the teenage set. That's not to say that I think that video games are responsible for violence in society any more than movies are, but if the only way to preserve the integrity of the game is to cater to the alarmists then so be it.
I'd guess that of the five systems from which the Wii is offering games there must be close to a couple of thousand titles, all told. I'm sure Nintendo could purchase the rights to just about any game they wish for a pretty paltry price. Those companies can either sell the rights to Nintendo and make a few bucks for free, or let those games fade into oblivion. It's not like Kanomi (for example) has an alternative platfrom on which to re-release Contra, enabling them to make money on archaic software which has been sitting around collecting dust for 20 years.
This is the kind of legislation causes more harm than good. Because of the overwhelmingly large volume of software that falls into the "grey" area here, this sets a dangerous precedent for the abuse, i.e., misapplication of the law against legitimate users of security/communications software.
GUI installation is moot to most Gentoo users. If you want a nice, easy graphical installer and easy system administration go download Ubuntu, it fills that niche very well. However, if you want to toil and trouble to build an optimized system from scratch then Gentoo is still the best solution.
[Open source] is a set of principles and practices that let everyone share nonexistent or semi-existent intellectual property. How, pray tell, do you share something that is non-existent? This is a ridiculous claim and there is no reason to lend clout to this individual by continuing to respond to his flamebait. And yes, I'm fully aware of the irony of responding to say so.
The end result, instead of having 1 package for some function, you have 1^n packages for that same function. I'm fairly certain that 1^n = 1, for n = anyNumber . But then again, sixth grade was a long time ago.
On the one hand we have the RIAA trying entrap media pirates under false pretenses. On the other, we have Universal trying to extort royalties for mp3 player manufacturers because they are "repositories for stolen music": http://apple.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/11/29/ 2328222. So I'm supposed to pay a tax on my mp3 player to keep the RIAA at bay, and then go home and not download free music? Sounds like a pretty sweet deal.
I'm tired of the supercilious attitude surrounding the use of the word "hacker". I think most of you are smart enough to derive which definition of "hacker" to apply within a given context. The fact of the matter is that the skill sets of "white hat" and "black hat" are essentially the same, and this is why the word is thrown about without consideration for the feelings of the innocuous, well-intended hacker. We all may as well face the fact that the word is well-ingrained in popular culture to mean something different from what it means within the hacker community. This isn't going to change any time soon. Besides, the last time I heard the word "cracker" it was used to mean something closer to "Nascar enthusiast" than it was to profile a type of computer geek.:)
I think you're missing the forest for the trees. Unhappiness is not a direct corollary of math aptitude, rather both are aftermaths of a common determinant.
Lisa Simpson put it aptly, "As intelligence goes up, happiness goes down. See? I made a graph."
Hewlett Packard recommends printing this story and comments for maximum readability/portability. Use full color for best results.

Yeah, well I doubt these computers have the required 20 GHz processors and 3 terabytes of RAM.

You're brain is one system within a particular organism, not a component organism within a hive.

You're right, there is one.
Just rename "Manhunt 2" to "Cotton Candy and Kitty Cats" and release it this way.

Actually: They're both nouns and both verbs.

Who cares? If you want to make it to Grand Marshal you have to have hacking under your profile 24/7.

Don't worry, the Microsoft employee responsible for the incent has already been fired and blackballed.
So you want to put up a new version of a $2 billion dollar telescope into orbit every couple of years?
