privacy, 'total information awareness', Internet regulation and taxation, net neutrality, copyright/patent reform, the right to read, the right to secure communications, the right to tinker.
I am as much a geek as the next guy, but I am certainly not picking a president based on this issues. Things like taxes, health care, the war sure seem like real reasons to pick a candidate.
Wait, I forgot where I was....
There's also a "new button color design" to confuse anyone thinking about sticking to their old axe.
So, those of us that bought 2 guitars for the PS2 (or 360) are going to need to shell out another $80 - $160 for new guitars? This is going to become and expensive hobby.....
Owners of first-generation Intel Macs that used (32-bit only) Core Duo CPUs may not be so happy knowing that Vista will be the last Windows they will be able to run.
And window users not on Intel macs won't be upset by the same thing? Oh wait, I forgot where I was. Non-mac and non-linux people are not allowed to be upset by anything.....
there appears to be little doubt at this point that the traditional landline will be joining rotary dials and party lines as a relic of the telecommunications industry.
This is just silly. How many rural places do you go where there is no cel coverage. In a town that has maybe 100 residents, you think cel companies are going to pay to put up towers when there are already physical circuit?
The way cable companies make money is by getting you to watch as many commercials as possible.
I must be missing something obvious. How do cable companies benefit from this? They aren't content providers. They display the feed from the broadcaster (ie NBC, Discovery, etc). I have never heard the cable companies ever getting a cut of the ad revenue. What am I missing?
A government should never tell a private organization what it can charge for a product. Might as well just have the government own the business (since it is setting prices) which leads to communism!
Shareholders are not interested in companies that play the lawyer lottery as a business plan.
Really? What makes you think that? I suspect that most 'people' investing in stocks are really fund managers running things like IRAs and 401(k)s. Do you really think these managers agree with a statement like this? Nope, they are looking at the bottom line of the company. If that bottom lines comes from lawsuits or product, it matters not....
It is difficult to imagine how the consumer would benefit.
You do know not every law has to benefit the consumer right? Or are you trying to say corporations have no rights? Sorry, the rights of consumers (or the desired rights) do no always trump corporation rights.
(Aren't flame wars fun?)
Put on your tin foil hats. This is sensationalism. It even says in the article:
(It appears some of the issues might be due to the DRM they are using is IE only)
We all know the music industry is going to require DRM. And there are 2 main ones out there right now. Apple's and Microsoft's.
Apple refuses to license FairPlay to anyone. What does that leave? Microsoft. But, yea, WalMart is in bed with MIcrosoft.....
Fortunately it's possible to receive HD cable programming without one of their HD boxes
FTA:
customers can still watch TV shows-like the upcoming Super Bowl-in HD because they have "plenty of regular high-definition boxes, without the DVR capabilities."
I still think the incident shows why the DMCA is a bad law.
Is it a bad law or is the use of it being abused? There is a big difference between a law that is being applied incorrectly and a law that is just bad.
Bad example:
Say my company is a suit and tie place. And the powers that be enact a casual Friday rule. And I still show up in a suit and get in trouble. Is that because I violated the causal Friday rule (must were causal) or because the powers enforced it wrong (I didn't were causal even thought I was allowed)?
So a PhD in medieval literature makes you an expert in computers and email? I am not saying that she shouldn't have known better (the SPAM indicator), but the PhD alone doesn't really matter. Besides some people are always looking for a get rich quick scheme.
The New Jersey project, which opened in October 2006 after four years of planning and building, cost around $500,000, some $225,000 of which was provided by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities.
...
The project also got equipment and expertise from a number of commercial sponsors including Exide, which donated some $50,000 worth of batteries, and Swageloc, an Ohio company that provided stainless steel piping costing around $28,000. Strizki kicked in about $100,000 of his own money.
And if you can't get all the grants and freebees, $500k! I want to have some green after I become green!
I think you are confusing the/. crowd with the 'normal' mom & pop crowd. For the non-technical people it is much easier to press a box with the person's name (which then changes color) that poke a hole in a card.
Facts be damned, let wild speculation abound!!!

Disgree with his beliefs if you want, but he was still a person. He had a wife and kids....

Two wrongs make a right, huh?
YOu do realize that 90% of users have aboslutely no need for a shell, right? I would argue most power users don't need a shell.

The whole thing is in the summary. Why bother linking to a blog with no real information in it?

I don't have any mod points :(
Which is immediately thrown out of court because the warrant was for your neighbor's traffic not your traffic.

I know no one RTA or WTV (watch the video) but this is wrong. They didn't unplug the power cable, they unplugged the HDMI cable.
