    I'm not sure why they didn't show, but I'm guessing it had something to do with them being out of the court's jurisdiction.

    They didn't have to show. One phone call to the attorney would have cleared it all up. "Hey, you made a mistake. You're suing the wrong person." ...Doing nothing was probably stupid.

    One of my college FORTRAN programming assignments was to write a program that given wind speed and direction would plot the spread of a poisonous gas cloud set off by a group of terrorists on campus. Now, this was 20+ years ago - but I doubt anyone in the class actually went on to use this knowledge to become an actual terrorist.

    I've got anther one. In my area, The traffic gets extremely heavy during certain times of the day. It's not uncommon for traffic to stop suddenly and with no warning and leave several people stranded in the middle of an intersection for half a light cycle or so, well into the red light.

    There are traffic lights in my area that have yellow lights so short that even if you are right AT THE LIGHT when the light turns yellow, you cannot get completely through the intersection before the light turns red. Traffic light cameras are a money grab, pure and simple. Lengthen yellow lights, have a short delay between red light and green light for the opposite traffic. Any other solution is just playing games.

    I am no expert on the rules of escalation of force for MD state troopers, but at worst the unholstering of the weapon is a training issue that needs to be corrected with this individual.

    It's a pretty important training issue. This training issue puts the officer and civilians lives in danger. If the guy on the motorcycle had been legally armed (I'm not sure what the laws are in Maryland where the stop was made, but in some states that's absolutely possible), this story could have been even more tragic.

    They must do things different where that boy's from. One of the things that was drilled into my head in Journalism school was that you can take pictures of anything you can see from a public street. The Maryland law is unconstitutional, and citizens of Maryland have the right and responsibility to violate that unconstitutional law. But you know, that's not the thing that bothers me the most. The thing that bothers me the most is the 'Traffic Stop'. Here in Florida and in many other states, we have a right to carry concealed weapons with a permit. The man in the video did not identify himself as an officer. There was no reason to think he was anything other than some freak with a case of road rage. I could easily see someone drawing their weapon on that officer and killing him. Someone needs to review basic traffic stop techniques up there.

    I'll not buy any more Seagate drives, this isn't my first bad experience with that brand.

    Ages and Ages Ago, I physically took the cover off a seagate drive so that I could start the platter spinning with my finger in order to salvage data off it. And I got the data, too. I haven't purchased another seagate drive since.

    "7600" - 120 to 200 MHz PowerPC 604 that can go up to 1 GB of RAM.

    I'm one of those Mac users who is also an NRA member. I keep both the Macs and guns.

    I keep reading the title trying to figure if he really means G5, not G3 which has a horrible lack of Altivec (like SSE/MMX). Confused really.

    I've actually got one of the new iMacs. I also have an unbuntu box and a couple of lap tops. Just in the interest of full disclosure. :) Getting rid of it actually had crossed my mind, but for what little I'd get for it, it'd suit me better to keep it around.

    Not necessarily. I can have a box that can't receive operating system upgrades or can't install the latest version of such-n-such, or for no additional money I can have one that does. I'm not seeing the downside of switching.

    I could say the same sort of thing about an Atari ST.

    Being unsupported doesn't mean that the software suddenly self-destructs.

    Very true. However, given the choice between running a box with an operating system and software that still gets supported, and an equally capable box that doesn't - I'm going to pick the box that is still supported. It's not like it's costing me more. Why not?

    Read the article. Normally the gun was kept in a locked place away from reach by the children. He took the gun out because he thought he heard an intruder. After investigating, he let the gun on the table and didn't put it away immediately.

    Now I'm even more suspicious. If I think I hear an intruder and I'm concerned enough that I take my weapon and check it out, I'm not just then going to put the gun on a table and walk off. It's staying on me.

    Don't blame the absurd gun laws that allow every douchebag the "right" to bear arms..

    Here in the USA, we have that right here. We value it. I'd recommend living in another country if you can't accept it. That being said, gun ownership is a serious responsibility. My guns, when they aren't physically on me, are in a separate room that has it's own lock with a separate key. Furthermore, a gun is always loaded. Always. That's the attitude you need to have, and I would never leave a gun, even if I thought it was unloaded, where a child could reach it. ...and having a realistic gun controller for a three year old to play with is just flat spooky.

    The system isn't working perfectly. Mozilla is taking Microsoft's word that these plugins, which install in their software without notice, don't have any vulnerabilities and are working just fine. Microsoft's plugins should be required to behave as every other responsible plugin. It shouldn't install with stealth, there should be a way to easily disable, and there should be a way to easily uninstall.

The cop didn't randomly stop someone on the street and ask for his ID. The cop didn't say, "Hey, I'm going to stop Black People and ask for ID's because they're naughty!" The police were called and told there was a possible break in at a specific residence. The cop had every right, and had the duty to investigate that call. The cop had every right to ask the person inside the home for ID to verify who he was. The professor should have done so, and thanked the officer for being so quick to protect his residence. But no. The professor had to dish out attitude, and he got what he deserved because of it.

    I've never had any of my ipods burst into flames. I've never known anybody who has had an ipod burst into flames. None of my ipod owning friends have ever mentioned any of their friends having an ipod that burst into flames. ...I'm thinking maybe this isn't such a huge, gigantic problem as all that, which is why it's not in the mainstream media...

    Years ago, some worm hit the net whose name seems to be evading me at the moment. I had sent an email to a friend of mine in the Air Force. The email didn't get through and was bounced back to me. The Air Force had apparently disabled email temporarily, but they did so in such a way that my one email continuously and non-stop produced replies bouncing back over the course of the entire weekend. Since it was a weekend I wasn't able to get in touch with anybody to correct this. I set my computer up to fetch my mail every thirty seconds or so and hoped for the best. Eventually come the next business day I received a response from some admin somewhere advising me the problem had been fixed. I thanked them, and told him since I thought I'd earned the right to be a bit bent out of shape, I advised that next time they shut down a system, they might wish to do it /properly/ because while I didn't know what the system was doing besides handling mail, I'm sure that they didn't want it to come crashing down under the weight of my responses if I chose to just start bouncing everything they sent run on back to them. Their response was for the CO to call my friend into his office. The CO asked if I was a threat and my friend said something along the lines of, "No sir. If he'd wanted the system to come down, it would have already been done." To this day, I don't send email to .mil domains.

    You must realize, though, that her "punishment" for helping him escape was far beyond the scope of her crime. I seriously doubt she could have possibly expected her husband to kill her and her child.

    It doesn't matter. When you make poor choices and put yourself, and your family for that matter, in positions like that - you run the risk of bad things happening. It's a sad thing that she died, but given her poor choice it's not surprising.
