I read this as, "hey can you guys help me keep a job I got by schmoozing and am completely unqualified for?" This is a real kick in the nuts to someone like me, who as a certified Linux administrator with more than 6 years of real working experience, can't find work because I'm too expensive or not such a good bullshit artist as yourself. I'm an honest guy who gets the job done and always has professional behavior in the workplace. You should be ashamed of yourself. This is why I would love to see a professional administrators association. Human Resources and others in charge of hiring aren't very effective at separating the wheat from the chaff.

You'd be surprised how far having good people skills will get you in life....especially in the job-seeking arena...Seriously, most people that make hiring decisions value good people skills over technical knowledge. Those who possess both rarely find themselves unemployed.

Although Slackware is a good distro to learn Linux on (that's the route I took and it has served me well), it is not production-worthy. I'd say install it at home to play around with, but don't use it for a production-level server. For an enterprise-level server, I'd go with Debian. Debian is fairly easy to use and has the best package management system (apt). We run CentOS where I work for our production servers, and that's served us well also, but had we been running Debian, my job would have been a lot easier.

Well, that would cost extra money to implement, which goes against the point mentioned above

Is it really that the few cents it costs to engineer these obvious safety and reliability features aren't worth considering?

At even a few cents per unit to implement these, it'd add up to a considerable amount of money. Enough to make implementing said safety features not attractive to Sony...until enough bad press comes as a result of their cutting corners, that is.

I went in with zero Java knowledge and came out a Java superstar (well, not quite, but I definitely came out with a very solid understanding of the language after the first semester). Um, I'm not a regular drug user but how are the effects of Cannabis [wikipedia.org] beneficial to gaming?

Easy, THC (the active ingredient in Cannabis) causes your neurons to release large supplies of the neurotransmitter dopamine into your synapses. Dopamine is responsible for helping your concentration. The idea is you're able to keep your focus much easier and concentrate on completing the task at hand in the game. For an experienced Cannabis user, this effect does in fact provide better gaming performance. I wouldn't recommend it for an inexperienced Cannabis user, however, as it can be quite disorienting for someone not used to it.

ETQW is an awesome game, tons of fun to play, and yet it features asymetrical teams, and is still balanced, which must have been a hell of a task, but gives it a great unique feel that lends well to replayablity.

I agree whole-heartedly, especially the bit about implementing the asymmetric teams being a pain in the ass. I'm sure it was a total pain in the ass to get everything just right such that both teams were different, yet equal. I'm surprised ETQW isn't more popular than it is.

Their QA is what I'd expect from id software or even Blizzard. I definitely look forward to future titles from them.
