XBox marketshare never really took off. The PS2 just killed the competition.. Now we've got three systems that do pretty well:Wee, XBox360 and PS3. Looks like Microsoft is doing something right for a change.
It's almost sounds like Dell is in it for the PR cred for saying "at least we tried".
Really, it's not exactly rocket science to config up a working installation of Ubuntu for most hardware. Come on, Dell. You preconfigure the windows boxes with drivers and essential software, so you should do it for the Linux boxes too!
Well, I'm rooting for this solution for an index tablespace (or.MYI on a MyISAM database), and a regular raid for the actual data. I think that combo would fly, as the tree operations on the index thrives on low latency - and the consecutive reads/writes of table data thrives on regular disk devices as they tend to have a good throughput.
Turns out Hydrogen is merely an expensive battery.
Yes, but very competitive in terms of watts/kg. Also, you don't need that deteriorating battery that you need to completely replace every so often.
What's important is that a hydrogen economy would enable us to cut our dependency of carbon-based energy. Our carbon dependency is causing both global warming and political instability. The world would be a better place if we established a hydrogen economy for our transportation needs.
I bet TIM would be a good terrorist training tool. Maybe then the best-in-class doctors would be able to build a working detonator?
Seriously, SL & WoW for training? Don't scare me much. I'd be more worried about a terrorist who did his trained using TIM and CounterStrike. OldSkool and dangerous!
On a serious note: Iraq has become a big terrorist training camp, breeding mean-ass terrorists with practical knowledge in wreaking havoc, mass murder and killing GI's.
The problem is that Microsoft is (ab)using its market dominance in order to kill a product (Google Desktop) by replicating it in a new version, and then making it harder for the original to operate/compete.
I think it's despicable behavior that needs to be cracked down upon. Abusing your near-monopoly position in order to cheaply undercut competition is not acceptable. The end-result will be inferior products, as competition is stifled when the OS locks out competing products. And no matter whether Google or Microsoft is the most evil or childish, it's the end result and the lawfulness that matter.
Doesn't matter. Global Warning is indeed global, so national borders don't matter. All that matters is how much carbon is re-introduced into the carbon cycle, and how much CO2 is absorbed through photosynthesis.
Per capita, national borders. Fuhgeddaboutit! This is a global problem.
We basically need to do these things (and I'm sorry if I seen like a greenie nutcase, I'm not really one of those, but this is indeed serious business): 1. Develop/build energy sources that don't destroy our habitat. 2. Primarily cut back emissions where it costs the least (in order to achieve our goals as easily as possible). 3. Prevent increased emissions in developing economies (China, India, Pacific Rim, Africa etc etc)
Ask not what the world can do for you. Ask what you can do for the world!
Pages that adhere to standards may very well be rendered on all browsers (that implement those standards correctly) but will those pages render identically? Stuff like anti-aliasing, fonts etc can make things appear kinda different across browsers and platforms. You should therefore do some fairly extensive (visual) testing if you care about user experience.
They are the natural predators of both baleen whales and seals. They're not uncommon but they need to be much more common until there is balance. Until then, we need to do our duty that we (unknowingly) accepted when we reduced the number of predators.
Jobs might be hoping to make inroads with Safari. He might also calculate that the more market share for Safari, the better the support for it on the internet. Safari is an OK browser, but without those Firefox extensions it's a no-go for me..
Anyways, I am pretty sure he releases this as a beta (and a buggy one at that, AFAIK) right before the iPhone release simply because he wants to give non-OSX shops an inkling of what their webpages and webapps will look like on an iPhone.
In terms of software development and maintaining profitablity, you have two proven approaches:
1. Don't bother too much about cracking down on piracy among Joe Public (since his knowledge on your product will help you in the corporate market, and him knowing your product increases the brainshare), but make your money on selling training and consultancy and support to your paying corporate customers.
2. Make a web app. Can't be pirated - though the someone might be "inspired" by your solution. But that's the same for all software, off-line or on-line.
As for those musicians, they never made much money from the record sales anyhow - at least not in this millenium. They make money from merchandise and tours. Now they can advertise themselves on myspace - so the music industry is getting increasingly irrelevant.
And the movie industry, they can shut up. Since the introduction of the DVD, they've continued to increase sales - also after the DVD encryption was broken. The hassle of movie piracy (need full-quality movies to really enjoy them, and that takes up a lot of space) means that I can just buy a cheap movie instead and not feel ripped off since my time is money and media costs (a little) money too.
We've eliminated or reduced all kinds of predators. That's why we need to kill a few whales and seals - to keep the ecosystem in balance. Now you can argue about cruelty to animals, but in terms of conservation of ecoystems I firmly believe we are doing the right thing.
it's good for limited stuff and for getting started, but you hit the barrier after a while. there's too much stuff that's too hard/clumsy/hacky in gimp.
The military-industrial complex. They would love to have another cold war, with lots of money and visionary projects.
Also, the leaders. Putin is getting the most of out this, since he has stifled opposition and controls the media. And Bush is probably hoping to create an enemy large enough to scare the US into voting for a Republican in the next presidential elections.
But seriously, most of the time bad behavior is the result of misunderstood parenting.
Some people give the kid no boundaries and not enough guidance, which is a disaster. Some people give their kids too many boundaries and too much guidance, which also is a disaster.
(And quite a few parents get it right)
The kid in scenario 1 will feel like their parents don't love it and don't care for its wellbeing. The kid in scenario 2 will either rebel, or become a follower unable to make its own decisions.
Balanced does it. The real world is an ambiguous place, and your job is to prepare your kid for the real world.
Sorry to say it, but iSync works nicely even without a iPhone. It syncs my MacBook with my Nokia 6280 (over BlueTooth) - calendars and contacts. Only annoyance: Birthdays don't sync.

Here's to hoping they f*ck up ASAP!
They do here in wonderful Europe. I had to take my jacket out of my hand luggage and wear it, because I was .5kg over the limit..

Yeah. When (if) you're old and retired and the information is declassified.
Are absolutely all documents regarding WW2 declassified yet?
Perhaps then can open-source it and just produce and sell the hardware?
Yeah, right, like that's gonna happen!

You can, using at least vmware.
And you can also partition up your harddisk and use boot camp to set up a dual-boot environment.

I'll consider getting a PS3 just to run this game. On paper and screen, Spore looks like the next addiction.
Well - unless I get that next-gen iMac 24" that is..

I bet you can create a flash-based solution with some animation. That oughta be plenty hard to decipher for those bots!
Son, that's cuz Europeans are skinny and Americans are fat.
agreed.

Yes, there is an answer: Ritalin.

No wonder you're posting as AC, girly man!
Well - once you learn French well, it's just as easy as English.
But: Using English units will always be a difficult thing to do than using Metric units. But hey - whatever tickles your pickle, man!
