Gamer since birth. I was born in 1979, and it wasn't long after that Mom & Dad bought an Atari 2600 for us kids. So my earliest memories are of me playing 4-player Warlords with my siblings. Almost 30 years later, it's still one of my favorite games.
My dad's a ham radio op, and it's always seemed like a good group of friendly (ultra-nerdy) guys. Thanks to him and his friends, I'll always have phrases like "KA3M Repeater" and "Indicate by saying 'in and out'" stuck in my head forever. When I'm visiting, I'll even sometimes hear someone blast "dah dit dah dit, dah dah dit dah" on the horn as they drive by.
I went for my license once when I was young (they even had classes), but couldn't quite grasp Morse code. I still went to hang out when they did their meetings, though. One time Dad and I ended up at some weird abandoned factory so he could scavenge for parts. Good times, though.
I was much more fascinated/saddened/aroused by the fact that I instantly knew the TF2 screenshot from the article was in Dustbowl-- right around the corner from the final cap-- and was on to estimating that Spy's chance of survival (noticing that the sentry hasn't tracked him yet).
Does anyone have specs on the hardware? Can someone who owns the box take a look inside?
I want to know if there's a PCI-E or AGP slot for a video card. Also, is there a free power connector for the video card/extra HDD? Does it have SATA? What's the max bus speed supported for RAM?
The guy who writes the story in an MMO is kind of like the guy who decides what color plastic to use for motherboards. Somewhat compulsory, but ultimately inconsequential.
But all the team members who mattered formed Free Radical. They're responsible for the Timesplitters series. Coincidentally, that was on consoles and is better than Halo...
If the video is to be believed, the game also has numerous gameplay issues and smacks of a cheap, twitchy platformer at times. How is that original and fun?
If I want wacky ideas with poor execution, I've got plenty of that scribbled in my sketchbooks. Although I guess I'll buy it eventually; you could say the same about Shadow of the Colossus, which I also own.
I find it's most evident with songs that have a wide frequency range, usually occuring during loud parts of songs. The "sparkle" comes to the forefront. But yeah, most any kind of MP3 is good for casual listening. Maybe that's where the problem lies: the fact that music today only serves as background noise...
Correction: Most people who buy a Wii aren't aware that graphics and technology contribute as much to gameplay as wacky ideas. In contrast, only 25% of Wii owners are aware that games with simple graphics are just as likely to be horrible as games with flashy graphics.
Oh, so you're one of the high-tech folk whose PCs could handle a monstrous 15Mb game. I played the shareware until we finally upgraded to a 486DX 100. Plus, it's not like I could just drop $20 on the allowance I was getting (or not getting, because of my grades).
Why are we getting a free version of Q3 when we still have to pay $10 for Doom? The game is so old, I've had to re-buy it 3 times-- once because the disc actually decomposed, and again when I left it by a tree and the tree grew over it, and finally when MIT procured it for carbon dating. Come on, give us old-school gamers some slack!
Indeed. To paraphrase Jon Stewart: "I like how you can make baseless accusations, but appear even-handed by posing your slanderous headlines in question form."
Next on the news: 99% of Slashdotters actually have no fucking clue what any of these supposed PS3 development issues are?
For design work, I actually prefer a regular optical mouse. Reason being that it's easier to keep still. My experience with tablets is hit-or-miss, but I hope I have the money someday to spend on a good one. For gaming, THIS (p) should be all anyone needs.
I've got a girlfriend in Brazil. She's a model and I can go down and have sex with her whenever I want.

You're probably not even the first person TODAY to mention why he feels HD is unnecessary. Forget Google-- you'll probably find a "blah blah blah don't care about HD?" thread in every message board you visit regularly.
Not to marginalize your opinion, but I think whether or not "the world really needs HD" is a moot argument. It's the next step. Eventually, it'll be the standard. You'll get over it.
I looked around the internet for a list of operating systems that currently ARE optimized for SSD. Guess how many I found?
Don't worry, they sent a guy in to take care of it. Word on the street is he's a berserker-packin' man-and-a-half.

I got my (nephew's) Wii last week.
You can touch me if you want.

Nanaca Crash is legend. MOD PARENT UP. /18,000. Beat that.

Wow, thanks for contributing.

Indeed. Win2000 was an excellent OS. If only I could use Server2003 on a daily basis...
Sounds good to me. Unless I'm planted in front of the entertainment system, I can't tell the difference between 256kbps and CD.
...But people are busy checking their posts from the "Sony DRM" thread last month to make sure they don't look like hypocrites.

Because apparently starting from square one with a new OS is easier than keeping your current install of XP Pro or Win2000.
