  1. EXACTLY ! on US Secrecy Efforts Hurting Scientific Research · · Score: 2

    If i can't read it then its not available to the public, hence its classified. I don't care about thin layers of differentiation. For me, its a binary field, Can-Read (y/n) ... all the layers inside the N, i don't think they really make that much of a difference.

    And for large places, does this vaccum cleaner recharge on its own ? i mean, go recharge and the continue vaccuming ?

    It would be awesome to add a notebook mobo and a hard-drive (or mem stick, or SD card or ...) so it can map the house and steer itself back to the broom closet for recharging, and back to the room it was cleaning and so on.

    It wouldn't be THAT expensive really, a 486 mb will do. Running linux obviously.

  4. Ok ... i found the answer myself on EFF And MPAA On Broadcast Flags · · Score: 4, Informative

    The last point of the EFF FAQ:

    Q: When the broadcast flag is implemented, can I record any TV program with my existing digital player/recorder and watch it later at more convenient time?

    MPAA answer: Yes. If you own an early model digital player/recorder, you will be able to record and playback time-shifted digital recordings of flagged broadcasts. These digital recordings will also play on legacy DVD players. However, when Broadcast Flag-compliant DTV receivers are introduced in the marketplace, their recordings will only play on other compliant players and not on older (legacy) devices. Of course, you can still record and playback digital programs with any existing analog videocassettes recorders/players. The broadcast flag does not affect what you have been able to do in the analog world.

    EFF comment: This answer confirms that "Compliant" devices produced under the BPDG-proposed rules are less capable than current-generation devices.

    i wonder if they also record device-specific information. like preventing me to watch a movie i recorded at my friend's house (digitally of course)

    Do they have software for the p2p sharing of files? YES.
    Does sourceforge have any p2p appz for d/l? YES.

    Following that resoning, should it be blocked ? YES.

    I am NOT saying i would block it. But according to those rules it should be. Its might be easier to block the ports all of these use but it helps to prevent ppl waisting company time and bandwidth neither of which are cheap.

  11. That WOULD be stealing. on Live from Iran, Film88 · · Score: 1

    The slim legal front is made by paying $1 (or watching the free sample), thus giving you legal rights to watch the movie (Hell, a movie ticket in Iran would probably cost less than a $1 or close to it) BUT NOT RECORD IT.

    If you want to record it get onto Kazaa, grokster, etc etc etc and d/l the dvd rip. Go to blockbuster and get SmartRipper and rip it yourself. Buy a bootleg vcd in HK. etc, etc, etc. You'll get much much better quality than 300kbps.

    There are countless illegal ways for you to get the movie. As much as the MPAA might dislike it, this one is legal. And they are powerless to touch a server in Iran. They might make all US ISPs to redirect film88's to an MPAA copyrights page or something, but its still legal.

    There are various ways to save the stream, StramBox for W% or various proxies for both w% and linux. But that wold be just as bad as any of the above examples.

    Inventors: Olson; Steven (337 Otis Ave., St. Paul, MN 55104)
    Appl. No.: 715198
    Filed: November 17, 2000

    CLAIM

    I claim:

    1. A method of swinging on a swing, the method comprising the steps of:

    a) suspending a seat for supporting a user between only two chains that are hung from a tree branch;

    b) positioning a user on the seat so that the user is facing a direction perpendicular to the tree branch;

    c) having the user pull alternately on one chain to induce movement of the user and the swing toward one side, and then on the other chain to induce movement of the user and the swing toward the other side; and

    d) repeating step c) to create side-to-side swinging motion, relative to the user, that is parallel to the tree branch.

    2. The method of claim 1, wherein the method is practiced independently by the user to create the side-to-side motion from an initial dead stop.

    3. The method of claim 1, wherein the method further comprises the step of:

    e) inducing a component of forward and back motion into the swinging motion, resulting in a swinging path that is generally shaped as an oval.

    4. The method of claim 3, wherein the magnitude of the component of forward and back motion is less than the component of side-to-side motion.
