Here is a bizzare e-mail discussion I had with a guy who contacted me yesterday.

If you're going to use the man's own words against him, then make sure you look at all his words. You don't get to just pick & choose from the bits you quote. Yes, he said he'd be attempting a viral campaign... but that was at the beginning of October. This began in December.

I'm not gonna say one way or another whether this is a hoax or not. I honestly don't know. But your so-called "evidence" is lacking in foundation a bit, methinks.

  7. Re:Money Reader on Judge Says U.S. Money Violates Rights of the Blind · · Score: 1

The problem with debit/credit for blind people is that as technology improves, more and more systems are going to touch-screen setups... which blind people cannot see. Walk into any Target store across the US, and you will find that their card readers are nearly inaccesible to the blind, because to do anything with the card reader, one must push the completely visual buttons on the touch screen.

Yes, this system can be worked around... it is possible to have the checker hit the proper sequence of keys to mark the purchase as a credit transaction, and then place the "pen" on the screen to let the blind person sign in the appropriate place. The point of the ruling as I read it though, is that while it is possible for the blind to use paper currency or work-arounds, it places and undue burden on them. It would seem to make sense that forcing the blind to use cards has the same effect, thus be something the ruling is intended to avoid.

Now, to clarify... I personally don't believe that we need to redesign the currency. I would not be opposed to seeing it happen though (even at increased cost, including cost that I partially pay for), because yes, the US is behind most of the rest of the world in that regard.

    Blood Rayne
    House of the Dead

Why is it that whenever someone puts out a list of video game movies, Resident Evil is almost never listed? IIRC, both the movies did well, and obviously the franchise had a strong release in RE4...

Or is it that nobody mentions Resident Evil because it doesn't fit in with the majority of video game movies, thus would hurt their argument?

Don't forget also, that at least at launch, the PS2 did not support DVD playback out of the box. You had to buy the kit which included a software update to play DVDs. It was only in later shipments that the PS2s started being able to play DVDs straight out of the box... and even then, unless you had a wireless controller, you were somewhat limited in playback control, 'cuz you had to keep the controller with you and couldn't sit too far away from your machine.

Simplest reason: I already own an XBox. I don't own any spare PC hardware.

All else being equal, yes it's cheaper and easier to build your own PC to handle it. But there are the occasional situations where it's cheaper to use the console (i.e. it's sitting around collecting dust) than to use a real PC (i.e. those parts would have to be purchased new).

The primary example I can think of, off the top of my head, is the growing movement to turn the original XBox into a headless linux server. When you think about it, the ability to put a decently large hard drive in a relatively inexpensive box that already includes networking hardware...

It's an option for people like me who don't have a lot of money, but still like to play with home networking. It's certainly cheaper than getting actual server equipment.
