Oh yeah? And next you'll claim that Muslims != Terrorists? Where have you been the last few years? Don't you watch the approved news?;)
(For the record: I know not all pedophiles are molesters and not all Muslims are terrorists. That was actually my point in a sarcastic kinda way. I was sort of playing on what the fear mongering media tells us)
I think this is good since it helps stopping terrorists and pedophiles. Terrorists and pedophiles are constantly crossing the borders to terrorize us and molest our children. Terrorists and pedophiles. Terrorists and pedophiles.
By giving up my privacy I help catch the terrorists and pedophiles. By registering my fingerprints and DNA I help catch the terrorists and pedophiles.
The terrorists and pedophiles are everywhere. They must be stopped and in order to do so I must let the government read my e-mail, follow my web browsing, track my phone calls. It's the only way to stop the terrorists and pedophiles.
By protesting you support the terrorists and pedophiles you damn pedophile terrorist. If you're not with your government you're with the terrorists and pedophiles.
Terrorists! Pedophiles! Everywhere!!
Must... give... fingerprint... to... stop... terrorists and pedophiles.
I don't know why space flight is so fascinating, but this is just incredible. I'm really sad that I was born too late to experience the moon landings, so attempts like this to pick up the slack of the once dominant leader in space exploration are just exciting.
Isn't it funny... I'm sad I was born too early to experience a (manned) Mars landing.
I saw this show on the Discovery channel about a group of amateurs 'climbing' Everest. Apparently you can pay this Australian dude a heap of money and he will get you to the summit... or not.
Well, they were not the only group of unskilled 'climbers' on the mountain and at one point there were a virtual traffic jam while everyone was waiting in line to climb up a *ladder*!! And while waiting they used precious oxygen. Some even had to turn back because the wait was just too long.
How is that for a pickup line: "I almost got to the top of Everest you know. It was just that I couldn't get to that dam ladder!"
When you go to climb a mountain without understanding the risk, without proper climbing skills (so you can actually climb should it become necessary) and without proper training it doesn't matter what the medical cause of death is; you die because you are stupid!
There are a lot of excellent candidates for the Darwin Award littering Everest.
An eWMD shuts down water supply: people have to resort to bottled water and, in a worst case scenario, boil rain water; for a few weeks
It would literally be impossible to truck in enough potable water to sustain even a relatively small population center. In a city of millions, the only solution would be mass relocations.
This is of course true when a facility is permanently destroyed. But a 'botnet attack' is not exactly the same as blowing up things. I guess it could interrupt the water supply for a short period of time but what kind of water distribution system could be permanently destroyed over the internet?
"Oh no! We need to reboot this server! Damn those WMDs!"
Fear mongering is popular these days but come on...
So... all it takes to build an orbital space-plane is to mount a rocket engine on the back of a Lear Jet? I WANT MY TAX MONEY BACK NASA.
Apparently you don't even need the rocket *engine*, just a nozzle...
I remember drawing a lot of these kind of things about thirty years ago. I was ten years old and hooked on space stuff. The drawing would be based on something common, an airplane or a car, and I would put in neat little arrows pointing to all sorts of bizarre 'devices'.
Come to think about it; if my name was Shampoo I would have been famous...
Isn't the whole point of this device that you have to have it to log in? What extra security does asking some questions to confirm my identity do if I have a virus logging everything I type?
It's not a problem. Everyone knows that the question/ answering method is very secure.
It takes all of seconds to get another email address. Why in the world would anyone use the email they were forced to 'register'.
As an European I try, I really really try, to not join the "Americans are stupid" choir. I kind of have this bizarre hope that deep down even Americans have some common sense. But let me tell you: By having your *elected* officials pass laws like this you're not making it easy...
First there will be ads in games. Then we'll get adblocking software that will block the ads in the games. Then we'll get malware that presents it self as an ad blocking software for games but turns out to simply replace the ads with other ads. Then we'll need malware blockers... And then someone will probably recommend switching to Linux...
I once encountered some free software that displayed the GPL in a dialog, complete with accept/ decline buttons, when it was run the first time. I wonder who would read it and think: "No, I do not accept the right to acquire the source code for this binary, make changes and redistribute it! No way!"
One of our great lawmakers here once said in a TV interview that a good solution would be to simply ban file sharing!
The interviewer asked if she meant all kind of sharing, like if he had a document he had written him self on his computer and wanted to share it, would it be illegal? And the great lawmaker answered: "We are talking about files here, not documents and stuff like that."
The point is: They haven't got a clue! The haven't the faintest idea what they're talking about. But that doesn't stop them from passing laws...
I'm sorry, but that's wrong. You don't own the music, you own the copy. You only own the music when it goes into the public domain. I would say you own your copy of the work. This is because the copyrightholder can not in any way legally stop you from listening to your legally acquired CDs. If you have bought the CD there is nothing the copyrightholder can do what so ever if he changes his mind and decide to pull his work. It simply can not be done.
With DRM infected files this is not so. If the 'seller' decides that you should no longer be able to play the files they can do so. Or demand that you pay them some more... again and again.
I don't question that business model though. I do however question those numbnuts that actually thinks this is OK. People that's actually fine with having to ask some distributor to play the files they have bought. People that's fine with a limited number of 'devices' they can play their music on etc etc. Well, I just don't get it I guess...
I can't remember the last time I saw a mainstream distro that was actually hard to *use*. Some have been hard to set up, or hard to get working properly... but hard to *use*?
Click on some menu button, find your program, run your program. Where the menu button is located, how it's shaped and what it looks like does not matter.
As a self proclaimed nerd I would like to see a linux distro that actually did something revolutionary. Anyone can take a base distro, dress it up and make it into a LiveCD. It's nothing new in that, it's nothing exciting in that and it's nothing remotely interesting in that.
Give me a few hours and I'll make "Lavenix". An easy to use LiveCD with a package selection perfect for everyone that's... well... just like me:P
Must be the power of Allah... cause I'm in Norway and Youtube is unavailable. Turn around friends! God's wrath is upon us! Either that or some server has bombed...
Am I the only one that's getting tired of the fear mongering? When in (insert deity)'s name will people start to understand that the net does not create a damn thing! It's just a way of carrying information. It does not create terrorists, pedophiles, serial killers, transvestites, ornithologists, lawyers...
The latest here: Online suicide clubs! Sweet innocent children without a single problem in the world stumble upon these 'clubs', instantly gets depressed and proceed to kill them self. Sadly it did actually happen a few years back (three young girls tried after chatting on the net, two of them succeeded) but not a single newspaper looked at the girls life, all they wrote was that the big scary Internet killed them.
It's easy to blame 'the net' though. It's big and almost impossible to grasp for most people so it tends to be looked at as this strange living thing who possess great powers. Also, blaming 'the net' removes the societies responsibility for dealing with problems. When a teenager commit suicide because she chatted on the net there is no reason to look further and possibly discover the real and awful truth.
Shampoo is working for IBM!!

What? There is a "first post" here? I totally missed that one...
rm -rf /
I tried it but sadly my computer seemed to crash before I could get the result. Guess I need to reinstall before I can try it again...
What's with all the blue color schemes, anyway? Personally, I hate the blue desktops a lot of people seem to favor, finding them cold and lifeless.
Blue? You think we'll use any random shade of blue? Of course not.
can we?

So... is the resulting site down or did we just manage to slashdot a six year old spam site?

Imagine that!

I can't help noticing how USA is looking more and more like the regimes it claims to fight.
