Thin Clients definately aren't a panacea, and there are certain families of applications that I would hesitate to make available in that fashion.

Personally I wouldn't even have considered trying to run Photoshop or Matlab because they are known to be such resource pigs.

However, I've used and administered successful medium (>300 users) Citrix Metaframe installs before, running MS Office, web browsers, custom corporate applications.

So they have their place definately, but running heavy graphical applications aren't one of them.

The makers of the bestselling video game Grand Theft Auto are being sued for more than 60m after two teenagers said they were copying its violent scenes when they killed a man.

    then farther down it states

The $100m legal action involves Joshua Buckner, 14, and his stepbrother William, 16, from Newport, Tennessee, who shot dead Aaron Hamel, 45, and seriously injured Kimberly Bede, 19, on 25 June.

Tennessee has no Child Access Prevention (CAP) Law and has no Trigger Lock Law.

So first off the parents of these kids basically are under no liability for the apparent availability and possibly unsafe storage of their weapons. Yet they have the gall to blame this tragedy on a game clearly marked for adults, which they most likely purchased for their kids.

Don't even get me started on their lack of responsibility as parents to at least be aware of what their child is watching on television or playing on a game console.

  17. Misguided Modding on Your Most Damage-Resistant Hardware? · · Score: 1

I was tinkering with an old machine used as a webserver a while back and converted its power button to a key start (just soldered a cheapie $2 momentary key switch to the leads)

I had just moved into a new place which had radiators for heating, so static electricity became a problem during the winter months (as I found out).

about a week after I had installed the switch I went to go power on the webserver after a black out, and got the key within about 3 inches of the lock. At which point a bolt of Static electricity jumped from my finger/and key to the lock and the machine powered up with out even putting the key in the switch.

It became a bit of a game at that point, because we weren't concerned with the old hardware dying, as to how far away we could turn the pc on by scuffing our socks on the carpet first :P
