You can have $3 billion dollars, you just have to cut your arms and legs off before you can spend a single penny.

The point is; Linux is the most used open source operating system and Sun licensing it under the CDDL is like dangling a carrot out, but saying only one in ever ten people can have a bite.

If the GPL is good enough for Java why isn't it good enough for ZFS? I'll tell you why. Sun's Java was on a road it couldnt' correct so it gave to the GPL community to keep it afloat. ZFS doesn't actually have any real competition so they use the CDDL to thumb their noses at Linux and the GPL.

Sun has always had a sore spot for Linux. They only grudgingly accept Linux at times because their very existence depends on it.

    This is so ridiculously true!

We are a small niche online trading company. Our entire shop is Linux except for our brokers desktops who all run Windows and the Windows domain controllers. Everyone not a broker (with the exception of a single accounting machine) runs Ubuntu as a desktop. Our brokers run Windows because of Excel spread sheets that use DDE among other things that accept live data feeds with seems to be a freaking standard on Wall St.! The last PC I built just over a year ago for $1,500 would have cost in excess of $3,400 from someone like AlienWare.

We work 35 hour work weeks (this is the second straight job that worked 35 hour weeks. 9-5 with an hour lunch) When I work weekends for system maintenance even if it's for just 4 hours or so, they match it with a day off when it's slow and when things *are* slow they can be very liberal with time off for say a vacation or visiting family back home for a few days or even a week!

On the other side of it is, the pay isn't top notch (though not terrible either) and the maximum annual raise is pretty much the rate of inflation. (3.8%) If you don't get the maximum raise, then you pretty much just took a pay cut. Top that off with the fact that they have pay ceilings. If you reach that mark, you WILL take a pay cut each year until they decide to raise that ceiling.

They do have insurance, but it is by far the worst I've had in my entire time working. (16+ years) Of course, compared to what some people said their insurance is, I guess it isn't bottom barrel either.
