Your entire post is asinine. Ubuntu isn't just about branding, it's about creating a polished desktop. While a Debian is a great distro, a polished desktop it is not.
To me; building software is about advancement, not about status quo. In your case, status quo is ensuring everything is absolutely free even at the cost of better.
The term "Church of Scientology" is a pronoun. That isn't a DMCA violation. If so, anyone using the churches name would be in violation, which is absolutely ludacris. The only reason they are doing it is because they are hoping nobody fights them.
My problem with the whole thing is Google responded by complying.
It is good that they are doing this, but it will have no effect in this specific case. No matter what anyone says, these guys speaking out does in fact damage the ISO's credibility. Considering the situation, it will effect the ISO at some point. Of course in the eyes of Microsoft the damage doesn't matter because each battle if fought one and a time and their is always going to be casualties. The ISO isn't part of Microsoft so however they suffer, won't matter one bit to them.
You just have to deal with it all just as they have to deal with you. You're dealing with an open community and when you deal with an open community you can people of all types. How many script kiddies do you think read/.? I would say lots of them.
Here is the deal with/. moderation. It comes in two forms and all tags are Emotionally based except Interesting and Informitive. (sometimes even them!)
1) Emotional Moderation: Someone says something they can relate too, so they moderate it up. Doesn't make it right, and it doesn't make you right. It's generally an opinion. Opinions are nor right or wrong, they are opinions and just like you, everyone has a right to have one even if you disagree. (All tags except Interesting and Informitive)
2) Promotion of Relative Information: Your basic tag to help relative information float to the top. (The Interesting and Informitive tag)
Yes, declaring a post flamebait or troll is an emotional reaction.
The tag Informitive and Interesting tage can actually go both ways as the inital post could have been rhetoric. (opinion presented as fact)
Now, it is in my opinion that both your and my post are offtopic!;)
Just like the newspaper, scan posts until you find something interesting to you. If you don't like it, skip it!
This is a stupid argument. You are paying for that service. You're not paying for Apple to disable your applications based on what they think should be disabled.
I like Fedora and don't even hate RPMs like so many. I perfer Ubuntu on my desktop and I cannot figure out why you would want to switch to Fedora over Ubuntu. It's just more usable than Fedora. Though for more advanced setups Fedora is a better (as it more simple) option.
I find that it doesn't work in Opera (for the most part) GPokr and Kdice don't and I actually saw Gmail's Google Chat actually work for the first time yesterday within the Gmail webmail client. I know you could load the chat window itself in it's own window and it would sort of work.
I though Opera was supposed to be the browser that abided by all the standards. Then why do so much stuff not work in it? Is it Opera, or just web developers not sticking to standards?
So, what they're saying is when you find/fix a vulnerability you should broadcast on BBC otherwise you will be less safe?
I don't think so. Love it or hate it, obscure security issues do protect some users. Obviously the issues need to tracked and I think changelogs are a good place to do it. There isn't a real reason to inform the world through all channels avaliable. Just fix it, log it, and move on. Anyone who needs to know will know where to look.
I don't know about you guys, but nothing makes me feel more warm and fuzzy on the inside then finding an item I'm looking for at a great price on Ebay then seeing that the seller is charging 10x the actual shipping.
* Legend of Huma (Dragonslance) Richard A Knaak (One of the best fastasy books ever written) * The entire "Legend of Drizzt" series (Forgotten Realms) R. A. Salvatore (The best single series of fantasy books ever written) * Any Warcraft/World of Warcraft books. (though my favortie is probably Lord of the Clans by Christie Golden) * Diablo (Blizzard Entertainment) books are pretty good, but Moon of the Spider is a great book. (another Richard A. Knaak book)
I always felt that someone like Cheapbytes should offer a product like Book Clubs do. Basically, you signup for what distro you want, and when it comes out they just send it to you and send you a bill for the $5.99ish they normally charge. They could send you an email maybe a week before it comes out so you have time to decline. I would much prefer that then having to go to their site and order each time.
With bandwidth you get today at home, there isn't a lot of reason to buy it anymore if you have a burner. Althought, many of my friends have more bandwidth at home (cable, FiOS) than they have at work. (T1)
Downloading updates and downloading a full product is two different things. You're not Getting Internet Explorer when you download updates. You're only downloading updates to something you already have. You *are* getting Firefox, then you download Firefox 3.
So spend money so you don't have to educate yourself or protect your system? Anyhow, you act as if Apple doesn't have it's own issues.
I'm in no way saying Windows or even Linux is better than Apple, but I am saying what you just said is exactly the same thing America Online was to the Internet. It dumbed it down so not so knowledgable users could just use it and not worry. Of course that didn't last for ever. Just like Windows, Linux and Apple's days in the almost virus free world are numbered and you would be a fool to doubt it. As the user base grows, so will the attacks.
Apple is a fashion. They charge more because they know people will pay it. It's not because their memory is so much better than everyone else. A $1,200 Gucci bag isn't six times better than a $200 high end leather bag from someone else. They are able to charge $1,200, because people with money to burn will pay to it for the name.
Many people that buy Apple don't even use them for what they are actually good at. They spend all that extra money to browse the web and answer email.
Sheep -> Slaughter
Saved millions of blue screens of death? :D
Using Linux could have saved millions. ;) :P

Petabyte DBs are old news to techie porn collectors. They always mix their two favorite subjects into one. Tech + Porn = Petabyte+ Porn Database
Can I create a nag screen to tell the developers to STFU? :)
Go ahead and mod me down you a-holes! :D :D :D

Ok, whats the word I'm looking for? Oh yes, WOW!
Did they hire a designer to design the color scheme? That is simple gorgeous!

I am frankly surprised there has not been more of an uproar about this. ...but you plan on making one! OOH-RA!
