  1. Friggin' learn how to spell! on Nvidia Adds GeForce GTX 570 To Graphics Lineup · · Score: 0

I have no idea how CmdrTaco got this job, but friggin' learn how to spell. Your previous article with the "Rouge" Satellite and now the "Stable" of graphic cards...??? How does Slashdot hand out these editor positions??? I mean, all that they do is repost articles anyways, the least they can do is get their friggin' grammar and spelling right?!

  2. Good on Blizzard on Blizzard Suing Creators of StarCraft II Hacks · · Score: 1

I don't play SC2 and never liked their Warcraft/Starcraft series, but I completely understand Blizzard's stance. Certain features of the game were intended to function a certain way with THEIR servers. By bypassing the system, you are in essence modifying the content their servers provide, in this case the Achievements. I'm ok with someone using cheats during single player, as it sometimes does reduce frustration with a product you purchased and it can help make it more enjoyable. Personally, I refrain a majority of the time as long as the game is still enjoyable. But this is clearly a case of people wanting to attain something they truly shouldn't be rewarded with (Achievements). If this helps narrow down the gap of people producing multiplayer hacks, I'm all for Blizzard rooting these people out. I wish Blizzard made FPSs and did the same with people that created Wallhacks, Aimbots, and the like. It is a sad state of affairs when people can't play a multiplayer game honestly and fair.

That's unbelievable that they're allowed to do that. So much for taking up valuable bandwidth. It's not like India has a good network to begin with. Everyone and their mother taps off of phone lines and internet over there like it's going out of style. If they do this, that company and Bollywood related firms should be knocked off the grid by IANA. Teach those morons Internet etiquette. I'm not a proponent of piracy, but you don't fight fire with fire... that never works.

  5. Space Hulk and AvP on the Jaguar 64-bit console on The Best Video Games On Awful Systems · · Score: 1

Space Hulk was pretty badass. One of the first FPS games that I really got into. I have the say the graphics for that game were pretty top notch at the time. That I could have team mates with me and issue commands was just so far ahead of anything I could remember. It's hard to find such a solid shooter to this date. Then I'd have to say AvP. I remember many nights with headphones plugged into my controller with the room completely dark, staring at my 27in CRT TV getting the bujeezus scared out of me. :) The atmosphere for that game was just unreal.

  6. Training at fault... not the FDA on Look-Alike Tubes Lead To Hospital Deaths · · Score: 1

I was a Medic in the Navy, and I can tell you that most of these errors are due to training problems. Individuals that just graduated from schools are pushed out onto the wards too soon without proper training on the equipment that is in place and accidents like this happen in high stress situations. As others have stated, a majority of the interfaces of the different tubes are already different, a lot of times they are already color coded, if they're not color coded, they sometimes have colored tape/flex tape on them to differentiate them. Often times people take a 2 year nursing course and don't know shit from shinola. In my 14 weeks of Hospital Corps training at Balboa Hospital and my 5 week Field Med School at Camp Pendleton I've learned more efficiently, faster, and better than most civilian practitioners. My 6-months On-The-Job training when I got to my first command made me more comfortable and proficient at all the things I learned in Corps School. Hell... I diagnosed my wife with Pleurisy without major tests and deductive reasoning when some Doctor intern/resident thought my wife had Adult Onset Asthma... gee... They put her on an inhaler and the breathing pain goes away (even though minutes before, they gave her Demerol before the inhaler treatment). Dumbasses. To hold the FDA responsible for something like this is like saying that Ford/GM/Toyota is at fault for the owner putting gasoline into the oil port or transmission fluid into the Radiator... it comes down to training and being aware. It's training people that's at fault here... not the FDA. The whole article in general is garbage because of that.

  7. Asinine Article and misinformation on Is StarCraft II Killing Graphics Cards? · · Score: 1

There's no way that Starcraft II is killing GPU's. It's the GPU's themselves that aren't cooled properly and probably can't handle the settings the game is set to. So either: 1. 8. Should be handled like the FTC handles ISPs on BP's Final "Top Kill" Procedure For Gulf Oil Spill · · Score: 1

There should have been many more safeguards put in place. Counting on 1 or 2 safeguards is foolhardy. The fact that BP didn't cap the well right after the event should be handled just like the FTC handles major ISP's issues. For every hour that an ISP, that provides a major backbone network, with a Service Level Agreement goes past a set repair deadline, the ISP gets fined $10,000/hour. The same should be done for environmental disasters like this. For ever hour that they try to "recover" from a disaster instead of just capping the well and closing it off, they should get fined $1,000,000/hr. Give them a grace period/deadline... maybe 3 days or so. But, if they can't manage the recovery effort, they should get fined $1,000,000 for every hour past the deadline. That'll give them an incentive to do what is right. The fact that they didn't have backup measures in place for this is absolutely ludicrous.

Someone actually posted this ignorance on Slashdot and wasted a space for a real article? If you don't know about the hardware, you shouldn't be building a PC. That's that. If you are that ignorant that you cannot be bothered to: 1. Keep up with the hardware 2. Understand the numbering scheme (which isn't that hard to be honest) 3. Or actually do the research Then you shouldn't be building your own. Buy a Dell, get a warranty, and be done with it.

  11. Politics on Paramount to Drop HD DVD? · · Score: 1

I think what it comes down to is politics. Sony has been put on their arse for the past 2-3 years and hit hasn't stopped. The failure of Betamax The fall of the Diskman The Playstation 3 fiasco Blue-Rays huge cost and some other major incidents that I can't quite recall at this moment Sony despite its downfalls and issues is still a major contributor of hardware and software and therefore needs to make money. I'm assuming they put a lot of effort into the PS3 and BlueRay, but it hasn't been panning out for them, and they were destined to take a huge fall because of this. My speculation is that other major corps out there saw a economic blunder (Sony) coming down the road, but because Sony still has a large amount of hardware and software out there to support and maintain, they couldn't let Sony go down the rabbithole. I think it was corporations, with some foresight of a possible stock loss, that caused other companies to back out of HD-DVD. There are bigger players here than we know of, but unfortunately it's not about the consumer and what they would like to see happen... it's what stockholders want to see happen.

  13. Just like XP on 90% of IT Professionals Don't Want Vista · · Score: 1

If you really think about it, Vista is behaving just like XP did when it first came out. But where I have a problem, is that Microshaft is trying to push Vista on people KNOWING FULL WELL that the business world has problems with making a move so soon after release. Windows 2000 is STILL deployed in all types of business environments, and some businesses are STILL making a migration to XP. Notwithstanding, that a majority of business software is not compatible with Vista. In our case, we use server application called BST Enterprise, and it is not compatible with Vista's IE7. There's a patch for XP IE7, but not for Vista. So, I'm supposed to dish out another $12K for the Enterprise software, $10K for a server that can handle the newer version, and the pains of upgrading my database just so Vista users can access the server to fill in their timesheet? If it comes down to it, I will be purchasing my Dell systems with Vista, and I'll just purchase retail OEM XP if I have to. I run Vista Business at home along with XP, I also have a dual boot at work just to test the waters every so often. Right now, Vista is terrible for a business environment and I don't see it getting better any time soon. Because of the "required" shift to Vista in 2008, I see Linux becoming a big player in the future. Microsoft is shooting themselves in the foot.
