To be honest I have never gone looking for the studies myself but http://www.google.com/search?num=50&hl=en&lr=&safe =off&q=breastfeeding+study+obesity&btnG=Search seems to have a lot of information.

My opinion, from watching and talking to friends using bottles, is the children are getting fed far to much overly rich formula. Lets face it sticking a warm bottle of food in a kids mouth is more convenient then whipping out a breast and with our societies prejudices it can be difficult in public. Friends also tell me how they use the bottle as a pacifier and I have to wonder how many children are getting a bad start with over eating. Correct me if I'm wrong, I frequently am, but it's difficult to get rid of those fat cells once they are created?

There are studies ( just goggle breastfeeding and studies) also showing relationships between illness and lack of breast feeding (both for the child and the mother) as well as social issues.

I wonder if we loose bonding skills and other social skills for the lack of breastfeeding or conversly do we reinforce them by breastfeeding. If so do those lost skills also contribute to obesity ?

Maybe its time to look closer at what was meant to happen by the very biological/genetic nature of women having a built in milk factory?

BTW If your new to all this, expecting, diapers are costly enough but wait till you price formula, what a racket they have!!!!

My wifes been studying to be a dula so we've been immersed in that culture of a more nature child :-) I have over the last 10 years paid a lot of attention to the people we know/meet a have talked with them about bottle vs breast feeding. It just seems that those that were breast fed where slimmer.

  4. Re:Any link to... on Testosterone Tumbling in American Males · · Score: 1

One big reason for this, don't laugh, is the lack of breast feeding in America. We (not my family) give a baby an bottle of man made slop and expect the child to get all the correct nutrients as if they were cattle. My kids were breast fed and are as slim as rails, tall and muscular, with more energy to burn then a small super nova. We did nothing different in their diet after weaning, they eat the same breakfast, lunch and dinner we do, cheerios, tuna sandwiches and chicken for example.

IMHO the worst thing a mother with the ability to breast feed can do is to use formula!

Do some reading if your expecting!

to hold a book, flip quickly through it, mark pages, set it down and forget it, search for it, be almost comforted by it. Reading on a pc is to impersonal, its good for quick sound bytes, like Slashdot stories but not easy enough compared to a book. I recently tried out the Safari Bookshelf from O'Rielly and if I good justify the cost based on searching for a specific answer it was great. But for reading a book cover to cover it was just to distracting. Like reading with the TV or radio playing loadly in the background. Email, web searches, solitar, just to many ways to get of track. And personally I think the size and shape of a book has evolved from what we need in order to be comfortable reading. Just my 2 bits.

The main feed into the one big closet was a trunk 4 feet across of twinax, arcnet, old phone lines, thinnet cat-IV, cat-V, cctv cables you name it. It was actually starting to eat some of the punch-downs on the walls.
