What would it take to set up a resource to educate schools about using Linux and accepting Naked PC's? A place were those in the know (us) can access solid facts, pointers etc all ready made for the schools? A way in..
We sit hear and talk about the FUD but how many of us have taken the time to talk to their local school districts, tell them that Microsoft is not the answer and the way out is from an 5th story window overlooking a 300' cliff ending in jagged rocks and pounding surf?
Come on Slashdot community lets put together some ideas and get them out there!!!
I just got my Matrox G450 and I'm about to toast my windows98 system, upgrade to two 80gigs and switch to Mandrake. For those few programs I must use microcrap I will run it with VMware. Sure I haven't gotten rid of MS but now I can move completly to Linux as I find or learn the apps I need!
Ft. Thomas AZ did something in this range with Cisco Airnet from Ft. Thomas (duh:-) ) to I believe Safford. They use it for Internet and distance learning.
They use a 12v wall wart:-) but I have heard stories of them running off solar. The only model they make that would be close whould be the Axis 2120. Its smallish fairly rugged but most important uses an auto-iris lens. The 2100 might last outside but bright outdoorlight will cook the CCD. The camera can hook to a modem and can be setup to send pics on a schedual.
that Microsoft uses all the money they donate to minority causes and uses it to defend themselves. Microsoft has is were it is by using talented people I real doubt they would hold back anyone who was truly qualified.
If the average Canadian bothered to learn what FEW rights he/she had there would be err... well not civil war, we're just to damb peacefull, but we'd be angry, EH! Seriously it's no better in Canada then the US, just ask any of the farmers in the Okanagan Valley who can't sell their farms for 1/4 market value cause the goverment says they don't have PROPERTY RIGHTS!
Often times your business card is your first and hopefully not your last impression. It's nice to be able to change things quickly but leave that to your web page. Try Ace Business Cards I use them and their 4 color process is CHEAP. Want your smiling face on your card, less then a $100. Seems they got this big German(?) press they load with one type of paper and then go to town. If you want some special paper then you pay...
I know I'm just being paranoid (hey North Dakota could invade and win) and I know Open Source et al. with many eyes are supposed to spot problems but with this and PGP just how safe are our repositories of programs? Hey don't get any funny ideas you Bisons... Oh Canada ah something something er was that in french?
Has anyone looked into extending the hardware? With all the Linux/Lego code out there this would be a great way to control the physical world, or would it? I have an old direct drive Pan/Tilt for a camera I'd love to Net-enable cheaply and with as little custom coding (read.. ahh thats not hardware)as possible.
Sir PLEASE lean back from the monitor... When one draws such grand conclusions based on such limited data one only proves is that one's own logic such be reported as a flaw to Bug Traq!
You know with version 5.0 EXPLODING in their faces they might not want their losers to know the ramifications of UCITA.. oops can I say that, has the bill been past? Who is that knocking, hey you can't just come in here, take your hands off meheelpp......
What hope do we have of protecting our personal freedoms from the feds when our States can't even protect it's (OUR) lands form them? Just look at the actions taken against Utah, Idaho, California, Arizona and others in locking away forever 50,000,000 acres of property with no recourse to those states. The greenies have used the feds for their own purposes, usurping state and individual rights with ZERO discussion, negotiation or compensation. Once Ramsey caught the eye of the feds what chance did they have? What chance do I have?
As a friend of mine keeps reminding me - What is not grown is mined!!
Response I'd expect from a liberal coward. But then tagging a parent who is expected to be with the child is not going to produce any useful data. What you want is universal security camera coverage, wont that make you feel warm and fuzzy while your taking a dump or lancing that boil.
I have a child, she's 5 and I know were she is at all times, down to 3 meters. I act like a responsible parent at refuse to rely on everyone else to do my job. I hate to saddle her with an SS# let alone a tracking device. Tag the pedophiles and them leave them in the general prison population. That will fix that problem.
If this will benefit me in the timely rescue from my kidnappers then I'd rather ware it thank you. That way when the tech savvy kidnapper bad guy comes at me with the receiver and the scalpel I can avoid the pain and give him/her my watch. Think about it, cars are stolen every day and even the most sophisticated alarm systems are defeated by the thieves. It will be a trivial task for someone with a little knowledge to remove/mask/burnout these devices. Anyone who thinks this is to stop crime is pathetic and needs to think about who would benefit MOST from these devices.
I worked for their parent/sister? company CalAbco who disappeared several years ago. I'm amazed that Benny (if he's even still there) kept that place running for so long.
Now if u want a reeeeeal BIG BANG try a few raw (not for long) eggs. Do stand back because 1. the door usually opens violently and 2. nuked egg really stinks.
As long as I've been in the "PC" business there has been a sort of ideological/$$$$ warfare between those on top (as they see it) and those up and coming. Disinformation is a very powerful weapon in those wars and in lieu of conventional weapons it is a marketing departments 'nuke'. If a commercial software vendor's product can not stand on its own merits/features against a similar free product what does that say for the vendors' work?
under the bed and didn't like us staring back! BOO Mr. Gates!

Thanks.
Does anyone know if this or some other technology would allow SOHO to connect remote offices to a common phone number/system ?
