    RTFA and it says:

Despite their new problems with the monkeys, it is a criminal offence to harm or kill any of them, so the besieged villagers must figure out a way to outwit the monkeys instead. So no, shooting or adding lithium/other chemicals to samples of crops to deter the monkeys (as another poster has suggested) is not a viable solution unless it becomes an extreme situation where criminal charges will not be applied to those that harm the monkeys in any fashion.
The only thing I can think of is to create shelters that the monkeys cannot access since they appear to be stealing the crops from within the houses as well as in the fields.

I wonder a bit about iTunes vs. peer-to-peer metrics. On iTunes one is liable to buy a single track or two whereas on file sharing services downloading the album is usually the only choice (even if you only want one track). This alone would account for some of why file sharing is so much more voluminous.
I'm assuming you are referring to bit torrent when you say that. You obviously don't know how to use the various bit torrent clients available because it is incredibly easy to download single tracks using bit torrent.
In Azureus for example, you just need to de-select which files within the torrent you want to have downloaded before it starts.... so saying its "the only choice" is not true at all.

WoW has nothing that intensive (nor do most MMO's), but PvP along with a good sense of humor is what keeps things interesting (in my eyes, I never played WoW more than a week), not what "godly" gear you have so you can make yourself feel better about dropping thousands of hours playing plus tons of cash (monthly fees, hurray).
On a really unrelated sidenote... I used to like watching replays for WC3 because it was interesting to see what was possible in terms of strategy... yes, it is mind blowing to "research" strategies in a strategy game I know.

  11. Re:Setting a bad precedent on Surveillance Cameras Get Smarter · · Score: 1

More to the point, imagine the problems if someone could hack the system - camera's report a terrorist threat at X location, and half the local police screams round to a house where they find an old lady singing to her dog. Meanwhile the other side of town, a bank gets robbed cos attention is diverted. Sure, that could happen, but hacking a camera is the hard way to go.

A gang could split up into 2 groups, one half go to one area of the city and start shooting out / dismantling the security cameras one by one while the other half of the gang goes and prepares to steal/vandalize/etc in some other area where the cameras are still in tact (for the time being). Obstructing the cameras view is the easiest thing to do, and completely destroying it would get someone's attention pretty fast I'm sure...

Creating a diversion is easy, and if people did not respond to the broken cameras, then all the more reason for people to just tamper or 'blind' the camera while they do whatever they want.

Nothing will change from these cameras, because the cameras are watching the public, so they must be in the public... so people will find them one way or another.
  12. Re:I'll pay for the convenience on The Recording Industry's Failed Digital Strategy · · Score: 1

But the convenience of picking up [the newspaper] from the vendor or the box without having to look around or ask around is worth more to me than the money that I could save.

Sure, that logic works for buying a newspaper because you are assuming the time cost factor of getting it sooner.

In most cases though when considering buying music in a store or downloading it... it comes down to a few other factors.

When do you get the urge to hear some music again? Perhaps after you listen to the radio going to or from work? Maybe a friend recommended a song to you at work, over the phone, or online.

At that point, what is easier for you to do to listen to that song again (or for the first time)? Spend 30+ minutes (possibly) driving out to purchase the cd at the store or the 3 minutes it takes to find the song online and download it...

Fairly obvious to most people they would rather spend 3 minutes than 30 just to listen to the song.

If your time is worth X amount of money, then why waste all that time and inconvenience yourself unless you really need the quality of the tracks on a CD for other purposes (re-sampling for personal use, remixing, etc).

Perhaps if more artist's works were available online directly from their site more people would be willing to spend the 1 or $2 to get the individual song knowing that money is going directly to the artist instead of the leeches at the **AA.

I've purchased the anthem song from Sensation White (http://sensation.id-t.com/) for example because it was readily available from their site at a reasonable price.

I don't buy a lot of music (I listen to a lot of online radio because I dislike western Canada's / US radio stations and styles of music aside from classical stations) and this is the the most "convenient" thing for me to do, so that's what I do.

I spend my money on things that I enjoy, not on things that the **AA think I should enjoy and pay levies for blank media I use in my car or other devices.

NHK plays hours of Japanese chess matches on Sunday mornings in Japan, and if that is enough action and entertainment to keep it on the air, then I don't see why a televised FPS or even RTS match couldn't be successful if properly executed. The Wii also adds a whole new dimension to be "spectated[SIC]."

Warcraft 3 has been out for years and it's still holding events that thousands (maybe millions) of people watch in Korea and on the internet. The prize money is nothing to sneeze at either, most reaching over $10k US per event.

Personally, I have seen a few of these "games" and if you have played the game yourself you know just how amazing it is to watch some of these people play.

Sarcasm aside, I think you're right. Everyone I know that has a PS3 (not many, including word of mouth) don't even use it anymore... it just sits in their house collecting dust. This is probably due to the fact that there has been no games that just make people say "whoa" for the PS3, but for the Wii however, I have been hearing constant things about new and upcoming games; such as the new Mario Party and the new DDR implementation that just began development recently. The logical thing for people to do is try and make use of their $600+ investment in the PS3 already, so they are seeing if the Blu-Ray drive is worth the effort... who knows, it just might make it in the long run, but I personally don't see the PS3 saving itself with just Blu-Ray movies unless some good games start arriving. We all know how the movies for PSP turned out.

  21. It's partially NCSoft's fault... on Indie Lineage 2 Servers Shut Down · · Score: 4, Interesting

The reason being, and I know I'm not the only one that thinks this, is because NCSoft did NOT maintain their servers, with botters and hackers running rampant throughout their servers, even to this day and because of this, many of the 'legit' players left the retail servers for these private servers. I have played on a handful of private servers, and I was simply amazed how much effort these people put in to stop cheating, botting, etc. Sure, they weren't 100% successful, but if they can maintain a server of higher quality than a retail server (which costs to play monthly, whereas free servers accept donations, but are not required by any means), then that says something about the way NCSoft is maintaining their service, in my opinion anyways.

It's also worth noting that not just koreans play this game... there is a huge populace of spanish speaking, european, as well as north american people that play this game, especially on these 'indie' servers.
