Other plants can be used to make ethanol, but it's not being done widely
Sure it is. Brazil has been producing efficient sugarcane-based ethanol for decades, and now accounts for almost 40% of the world's ethanol fuel production. Not that it matters much to the US, because of the quotas and massive tariffs to protect the crappy corn ethanol industry...
Not just this stupid Nixon-era farm subsidy...but also the utter stupidity of not importing EVERY diesel/fuel efficient car an American producer makes all over the world to the US. I've been driving beaters for 20-30 years and would give my left nut for a chance to get one of the diesel's being used in Europe. I would figure out how to make the car payment and not have to worry about looking for my next used car every 5-7 years. I drive them until the wheels fall off...literally rolling down the road beside me in traffic.;)
Being that this country has its heart set on using every last drop of petrol/oil...don't see any change. The only way this is going to happen here is to raise the price of gas to the level (or higher) than in Europe. Boo-hoo if the soccer moms have to give up their tanks. Their kids are brats anyway & would lose weight if they had to walk 1/2 a mile further to school and such.;)
Shit labor is anything that makes you unhappy and/or fails to pay the bills.
Done more than my share of this...especially in the gaming industry. Was able to pay the bills...but the lack of respect...management who could spell that word and looking over my shoulder every moment of the day is certainly no way to live your life.
So long as you are happy and have your health, a roof over your head, and a full belly then the rest of it is just noise.
It's been a year since I moved to another state. Spend the winters subbing and the summers mowing yards. Found my favorite job was mowing yards...while teaching provides the rent/bills with very little left over. Compared to gaming and the classroom/mowing...there is no comparison. Am more happy now than in the many years being unhappy. If that wasn't enough...I also have the time to volunteer at my church to work with the kids during the week and summer.
I may not have money...but whenever I can wake up and be excited about the new day...that is a more welcome change than seeing (in my minds' eye) "Abandon hope...ye who enter here" over the entrance of almost every job I have had as an adult. Being someone people want to be around is the biggest change. Who wants to be around someone who's always miserable?
Although the Kinect is apparently not subsidised, I completely see your point. They were projecting every Kinect as including $x in additional software sales as well as the $y profit on the hardware, and I totally understand why they're pissed about not getting that $x that they were hoping for. That wasn't my point - their motivation in wanting to prevent the Kinect being used as a standalone device is clear.
Makes me want to cry for Sony as well for selling their console at a loss. What's even funnier is when someone takes said console (USAF)...buys thousands of them and sets them up for not playing games. Those bastards! The USAF should know better than to steal from a company they know is losing money on every console they buy. Buying thousands...our government owes Sony BIG!
We...as consumers...should use said product in the only way the company likes. Our corporate leaders want no more from us than to follow what they tell us to do.
BTW...does anyone know if I can get a Superman cape off an auction site so that I can fly??? How about anyone to help me grab the pulley on the car while it's running??? Gotta change that belt somehow and don't want to stop the car engine to do it.
Sure, the fact you're not limited to 5 episodes back is a good feature, but it definitely isn't worth the $15 they're asking for. I know I could pick up PlayOn for a similar experience, but it really irks me that they can't provide several of these shows through their Hulu Plus apps but are perfectly capable of having them on Hulu Desktop.
With TV Tuners and editing software to kill whatever commercials are in the programs you want to watch...just record whatever shows you want off the antenna/cable/satellite and take out the commercials. There you go...you have Hulu+ without their limitations or costs. If you've been doing this for years...you have complete seasons without commercials on DVD's...in AVI or H.264 with AC-3 audio. Don't even have to get a call from the ISP that I'm sucking up all the bandwidth...since you would have your own copies. Not even having to bother with torrents...unless you enjoy stuff they don't show over in the US.
Going this route..."free" Hulu is good for watching old shows/movies when you want to watch something different. For instance...saw "Lord of Illusions" and "Omen III" Halloween night for my scarefest...for free. Don't care if the movies were 15-30 years old. Would have watched the old Hammer Christopher Lee Dracula movies if they had been available.
"Oh yeah, that's good. Keep going, keep going, OH YES! You've done this before haven't you. *wink*"
With this being the case...I'm going to request the biggest/hairiest rent-a-cop they have to do a full fisting without a glove in front of everyone...after not wiping for several days after eating beans. At the same time...they better not stop till I say when! Now...let's see who flinches!
It's a nice thought, but no, not all life has the same value. You want proof? Talk to a doctor about requirements for organ transplant recipients. Young before old, no druggies or drunks, no one with uncurable conditions, or even lasting illnesses. If all life was of equal value, then it'd simply be a matter of "who started needing the replacement first."
This is not true at all. The reason is...you have money/power/are famous...you will get that transplant...no matter what condition you are in. Prime example would be David Crosby. His talented years (if you can call him talented at all) were spent doing as many drugs as possible...he's as old as dust and he was famous/had money...so he got that transplant. If it had been you or me...we would have died waiting.
The moral of the story is that if you have money/power/are famous...you will get that transplant over someone who needs it worse.
The game looks like it's going to be awesome, but considering the DRM and bad behavior by Blizzard, I'm not going to be playing. I hate going without, but when a company can ban accounts for what one does during single player gaming and isn't even required to give a refund, that's not something that I'm willing to be a part of.
As we've seen with numerous games where the vendor attempts to lock them down...there's always someone out there just as or more smarter than the company and will break/disable to DRM. It's just a matter of time and we'll all be enjoying the game.
On the other hand...if they come out with either a PS3/360 version...might not be worth all the trouble to screw with the PC version and just play it on my 360.
Remember "must carry". Was in the business at the time & nothing like this ever happened.
Funny thing...you have republicans wanting to deregulate everything...but when the business is free to raise rates as high as they want or nickel/dime you to death...these same people cry a river when they realize they got what they were crying for. Plus...with the rules in place at the time...as you pointed out...this would have never happened.
Just love it when people are so short sighted that they get what they think they want till they suffer the consequences of their stupidity. Wonder if Cablevision is learning the true term of a "tea bagger" with the churn they're going to have to deal with.
Remember and add a service deal. At $1,000 per PC, I'd be expect a four year maintenance deal with next day or even same day on site service.
By all means...make sure that you specify same-day/on-site service that you can get that by getting the name/cell phone number of the manager of whoever does your service. The reason is that your local shop with the contract MIGHT be busy with other projects and push you out until THEY find the time to get to you. Whatever you do...don't take no for an answer and don't ever threaten that you will go above their heads unless you actually do so as soon as you get off the phone with them. Nothing the local shop wants more than to have the OEM calling and threatening them over the phone with the loss of their contract because the shop got too busy.
Used to work in a casino where the nearest shop was 100 miles away and the shop got busy with other clients in their town. My department manager used his contract to squeeze the balls of the shop who didn't want to provide what was specified in the contract. After this...any call placed had a tech in the door less than three hours after the department manager called for service.
Even though I was Microsoft certified...they didn't pay me to fix them...just to run them. Not only that...but at the wage they were paying me...I wasn't going to touch any component...since they bought the contract...they were going to use their contract.
Having the Fox station in NYC on satellite and using it for years for time shifting in the West Coast area...this topic was in their newscasts...in commercials and everywhere else Fox could put it. The General manager of the TV station was talking about all the money they lose...so that the local cable company can pad their pockets with the stations' programming. So Fox did it to Cablevision. They did it as well to Dish with some of the other Fox channels...as well as Nat Geo.
Out of this...the one thing which amazes me was that no one had seemed to have heard of an Over-The-Air Antenna. It's a wire contraption that was used for many years before cable/satellite TV existed. I made a coat hanger one earlier in the year...but viewers can buy a pre-built one as well. If Cablevision would have thought about this one and outlawed them (along with satellite TV)...maybe they wouldn't have to cave into Fox.
The viewers MIGHT be smart enough to figure out that using an OTA antenna to get the Fox station free could put a stranglehold on Cablevision. In the least...they probably would've gotten a better picture in full digital (since many cable companies seem to put their broadcast stations in analog with degraded video/audio) and had seen their baseball game and other programming for FREE. Wonder how Cablevision would like to compete with free & are going to cope with the churn they are going to be getting starting tomorrow morning.
I remember reading a story years ago about cookbook publishers being up in arms when the Xerox machine came out.
Being everyone's got a bum and some type of genitals...does that mean the copyright holders of those would be pissed off if I make a copy of mine or possessed a copy of someone else's on a "Xerox" machine??? What about the stool maker of the stool I would have to use to get my junk or bum up there to actually make the copy? How about if I shave a heart into my pubic area...will Hallmark come screaming bloody murder?
As soon as they figure out that this recording was made without the express written consent of Major League Baseball, Crosby's estate is going to be totally hosed.
If you've ever seen a kinescope recording...you will change your mind. Having worked in TV in the 80's and still having them around for live functions like sports before the advent of video tape...it's like watching a video tape recorded over and over at the slowest speed with rolling lines running up/down the screen at the same time. It maybe history...but not worth the headache you get after just a few minutes.
Same with this celltower law. It doesn't directly ban the towers, but the 1500 foot limit has the same effect, which I bet was the politicians' plan all along. "We did not ban celltowers in Hempstead." Yeah. Accept that you did because now no towers can be built.
Had the same issue with power plants in Arizona. During the summer...they can't produce enough power to run the AC...but heaven forbid you want to build more plants or ship in more expensive power from out of state. When you get outages and brownouts...these same people bitch/moan that more power is needed without the plants or raising their electric bills. When the solutions are there in plain view...not in my backyard and you better not obstruct my views either.
The funniest part of this is the ones crying the loudest about the lack of service are the ones who don't want the plants/towers where they can be seen...even from Pluto.
A lot of these distinctions have decreased with the spread of mass-market media that depicts these words used commonly. I think this was initially a way to make movies and television shows feel more authentic and real, closer to the common language of people, with the result being that the spoken language of the US as a whole has become more common.
Worked as a sub several years ago in a school system in Arizona. Having to collect papers from the students for the science teacher to collect after school was over...got to read several of these. I was shocked to find excessive use of profanity and very basic writing/grammar errors on almost every paper I collected. Hardly any of these students could construct a proper sentence.
Where this is leading is to general failure for the college bound students. They can't write or express themselves without using profanity...the college professor will immediately let them know what is thought of their writing in an educational environment. When they waste their time/money...rather than the state in a public school environment...maybe...just maybe...they might figure it out. Too bad the high school teachers won't.
The ones who don't go to college will keep wondering why the use of profanity lose them opportunities and why the police arrested them for resisting when they kept using the F-bomb over/over at the arresting officer.
Just look at Faisal Shazad, the guy from Connecticut who tried to blow up Times Square. He tried to build his bomb with a toy clock and M80 firecrackers. He had a business degree.
As long as he talked to both Bob's and had his TPS reports in order...nothing would have happened to him. On the other hand...if they took his red Swingline stapler...I can understand why he did what he did.
“Neither the label ‘fiction’ nor the First Amendment gives Universal the right to libel, slander and ridicule the most central figure in world history.” - Jerry Falwell
I must be missing something about "reverend" Falwell (may he rest in hell). If he (and other fundamentalist nutjobs) believe that God created the universe and the earth 6000 years ago (as of October 9th of this year)...is He not powerful enough to take care of what any man has to say about Him or His Son? If not...He's not the same God of the Bible they claim to believe in...since he's not as powerful/all knowing as they claim Him to be.
Are you serious? If a Mosque decided to burn some bibles? Just burning some bibles would be a significant upgrade from what muslims are usually known for burning.
Not only that...but a group should do the Bible burning during the time this "church" is in session on Sunday morning as close to the church as possible.
I'm even a Bible reader/believer and think this church...especially the "pastor"...is looking for attention. They can get the attention of the IRS since they took the tax exempt status from Bob Jones University for discrimination back in the 70's which led the way to the "moral majority" movement. If this church wants to get into the political realm and do the same thing...they can do it by paying the "fee" for the right to do so.
I get it that lots of people don't like Harry Reid. That's fine. But angle is amazingly, dangerously, stupidly incompetent, and perhaps crazy.
She made a lot of noise about "second amendment remedies" if she doesn't get elected, and now has to back track that and either avoid questions, or blatantly state that she's not really advocating armed revolution.
Being from the Las Vegas area before moving to Southern Idaho...I have kept an eye on this campaign. While not liking any of the candidates...no matter where I live...she does take the cake for her morals/ethics (lack of them that is).
Having read the article...I find it funny that she/her delusional followers throw a fit over "supposed misrepresentations" of their views...but have no problem with theft...no matter if it's a troll doing the work or not. Her/her followers start throwing around terms they don't understand. The matter is that she/her staff didn't care about following the law. I doubt if any of them have even read...much less understand what law they've broken.
Even worse...they resort to throwing public fits when you point out their lack of education/stupidity. Reminds me of the line from "Animal House"..."Fat...drunk and stupid is no way to go through life." These people seem to have this down to a lifestyle and are even breeding.
Similarly, I do not want them subject to some of the adverts that appear on some childrens channels (e.g. give money to help save some poor kid's life... I feel there're more appropriate ways of teaching kids about these issues).
Had no idea they showed this BS on the TV outside the US. Guess people in the UK feel they don't need to have direct exposure to the poor either...so send them your money and your conscience tells you you've done something to help someone else you don't know.
So we need something in place, whether that is common sense or an impartial body. Unfortunately I don't think common sense is an abundant commodity and so the US would probably benefit from keeping the FCC's indecency policy in place. There's no K9 for live TV, alas.
Common sense has never been anything like a commodity. Example...friend of mine was working at the cable company in Tulsa, Oklahoma on the overnight shift. Being that Oklahoma is part of the Bible Noose and the cable company carried the Playboy Channel that you had to pay for if you wanted it...someone called in and told him he/the company were evil for carrying the programming that other people would subscribe to and want. He promptly told them if they don't like it...there were two knobs on their TV. One was the On/Off switch...the other the channel knob/remote he could use to watch anything else other than the Playboy Channel he didn't subscribe to or watch. The caller started throwing the F-bomb at him and finally hung up. The next day...his boss applauded him...but told him it was bad public relations as he was laughing/crying at the same time.
Perhaps it's precisely because they don't sell many printers anymore that they resort to this.
Had a garage sale this past weekend. Had a Lexmark printer and couldn't give it away. No one would go near it. The HP I had suffered the same fate...but at least some people looked at it.
In any case, it tells me loud and clearly what printer not to buy next.
Have owned two Brother laser's and a Samsung. Toner costs...even for color toner...makes ANY inkjet useless. Ocean front property in Arizona is a better bargain.

If he (and other fundamentalist nutjobs) believe that God created the universe and the earth 6000 years ago (as of October 9th of this year) ...is He not powerful enough to take care of what any man has to say about Him or His Son?
I heard that Sarah Palin can pick this up quite easily from her home in Wasilla!
Only on her front porch.
