    Mainly that people who are interested in coding free software and people who have a great understanding of ergonomics and aesthetics in software are usually just not the same people. I've known plenty of coders whose idea of usability is to configure it for their personal preferences and that's it, but on the other hand, I am sure most people who really understand what is needed for usability couldn't code "Hello World!" in BASIC.

    It seemed like it was a technical success to me. The rocket may have failed in the end, but it didn't explode on the launch pad and it got to a substantial height. They are being pretty careful. They stopped the first launch at T-00:00, the rocket had already started its engine! The failure had to do with the stages not separating, which sounds to me like a fairly easy fix for next time.

    The first true portable computer, the Osborne 1, sold for $1795. According to The Inflation Calculator, that's $3352.27 in 2007 dollars. It had a 4 mhz CPU, 65 kb ram, a 5 inch monochrome screen and only took single-sided floppies.

    $100, even $500, by comparison is not bad.

    I wasn't intending it as a troll. The parent seemed to me to imply that information withholding is a staple of communism. It isn't. It's a staple of powerful governments of all kinds. Formerly communist Yugoslavia, for example, was very open with its information.
