Executive Management are not going to move overseas. Executive Management are the people (in the U.S. anyway) that are making money off of outsourcing. They are making a killing off of it and they don't want to be Chinese wage slaves anymore than any of us do.
The argument for outsourcing is that it allows everyone over here to do "more important jobs," i.e. Management. The flaw in this argument is that not everyone can be Managers. Some of us aren't cut out for it and there are always going to be those not smart enough for it.
What are you going to do with the doers if all the "menial" work is outsourced? We better be thinking of answers. Some of us can create small businesses, but not everyone.
I'm not sure what this AC is suggesting... are you suggesting that contracts SHOULD be able to be suppressed through copyright?
Anyway, the problem with the GP post is it assumes that lawmakers care about putting in logical copyright reforms that don't favor large organizations. We all know how likely that is.
> If this was really an al-Qaeda plot - then why did he not succeed in crashing the airplane ? Are you really trying to convince me that they are a bunch of incompetents who just manage to cause a little damage but that is all ?
Why do think al-Qaeda are a bunch of criminal masterminds? What evidence do we REALLY have that's the case? 9-/11? There is too much evidence of security incompetence and coincidence for that in my book. At most it was only 3/4 successful, too, remember?
Stop making it seem al-Qaeda are criminal masterminds. They don't deserve that status. More likely they are a bunch of very misguided cultists that got extremely lucky. Making them into super-villans just give authorities reasons to take away more rights from citizens.
We don't need a Muslim detector. We simply need an idiot detector. Ban all idiots from airplanes. That should solve the problem./. is full of the best and brightest... get to it.
Yeah.. this is exactly what gets me so angry about the common feelings the public in the U.S. have towards terrorists.
People still attribute 9-11 to some sort of great planning. For instance, I remember someone on NPR doing an opinion piece talking about how it was carefully planned so that the world would see the 2nd plane hitting, etc..
For the year after I would see how this would see how we might believe that 9-11 was a result of some great mastermind, but as we get farther away from that day it seems more and more likely to me that they simply got lucky. IIRC, there are quotes by OBL floating around where he basically said that the attack went way better than he expected it to.
The Bush administration took the idea that we were up against Ian Fleming-like criminal masterminds and ran with it. It's a joke. For the most part these people are rock stupid. Most of the time they should be pretty easy to figure out. And it's like any other type of law enforcement type exercise: any time a member of the general public has to think about terrorism it's a failure of government (even if it is, in many cases, an excusable failure).
We need to stop giving "terrorists" elevated status. They aren't superhuman, and anyone giving them superhuman status is just probably trying to take away another one of our rights as citizens.
Again, corporations != the free market! Capitalism sure as hell exists beyond this. The problem with corporations (I usually mean multi-nationals when I say this) is the concentration of power and the fact that the can so much power in government that they essentially rule countries. Small corporations and small businesses can't do that.
Corporations != the free market. I am not in favor of communism, I am in favor of taking power away from huge corporations and reducing their role in government.
We don't need corporations to have a good world. We don't need corporations to have full employment. We don't need corporations to have any of the things you describe as smaller businesses can handle these jobs. There was a time when they were needed because of the difficulties of global communication, etc. but that time is past.
Since I heard about this yesterday, the song "Benson, Arizona" has been going through my head continuously...
BENSON, ARIZONA
from the film "Dark Star"
The rays of sun shine down, But I see only one. Try to think I'm over you, I find I've just begun.
The years move faster than the days. There's no warmth in the light. And how I miss those desert skies, Your cool touch in the night.
Benson Arizona, blew warm wind through your hair, My body flies the galaxy, my heart longs to be there. Benson Arizona, the same stars in the sky, The days seemed so much kinder, When we watched them, You and I.
Benson Arizona, blew warm wind through your hair, My body flies the galaxy, my heart longs to be there. Benson Arizona, the same stars in the sky, The days seemed so much kinder, When we watched them, You and I.
Now the years pull us apart, I'm young and now you're old. But you're still in my heart And the memory won't go cold.
I dream of times and spaces I left far behind Where we spent our last few days Benson's on my mind.
Benson Arizona, blew warm wind through your hair, My body flies the galaxy, my heart longs to be there. Benson Arizona, the same stars in the sky, The days seemed so much kinder, When we watched them, You and I.
(This following verse is used as the ending of the film before the 1983 director's cut.)
Benson Arizona, blew warm wind through your hair, My body flies the galaxy, my heart longs to be there. Benson Arizona, the same stars in the sky, The days seem so much kinder, When we watched them, You and I.
(The above verse and the and following three are used as the ending for the 1983 diector's cut.)

This particular scam has been tried before, especially by convicts. At best it creates a lot of spurious legal paperwork that has to be dealt with. It's a great way to cause headaches for the legal folk.
The Indian caste system has nothing to do with this article. It's like if you were to complain about the American justice system by saying that the U.S. oppressed Africans for years. It might be factually correct, but what does it have to do with this discussion?
Why is getting out of the car being equated with "acting like an asshole" ?
Maybe he didn't know what "the protocol" was? I might of done the same thing in that situation and the idea of doing something aggressive doesn't even enter my mind in situations like that. It could be handled by a simple "Please get back into the car, sir."
I don't know the story yet as I've said elsewhere, but common sense has to say here that there has to be something other than that for justification of a physical beatdown.

Not necessary. Just buy the laws. Or let Disney buy the laws.. or whatever.

Uh, is it gone? Score another one for corptocracy.
They are going to order a new season of "Whose Line is it Anyway." All those boring Floor and Committee sessions... who gives a shit?

the (lack of) coherent thought in the trending topics will be even worse.
Yeah... like maybe slashdot, for instance.
Oh.. go ahead and mod it Troll. It's just a joke!
Source needed for what? The fact that the internet enables efficient global communications? You're on slashdot.
This sure is a god-awful straw man argument.

Cry me a river about lost corporate profits.

Time to go after book reviewers next?
It's not socialism when giving money to a corporation. At least that's what I gather.
This particular scam has been tried before, especially by convicts. At best it creates a lot of spurious legal paperwork that has to be dealt with. It's a great way to cause headaches for the legal folk.
Yup. Corporations NEVER try to manipulate the market. Never ever. Never ever.
So? I invented 6th grade! You all owe ME money.
