Suspending the techs for a Mistake is kinda stupid. Financial Systems are all about speed. To get that sort of speed, you need to drop as many checks as possible. You don't check to see if the String sent is an int, you just process and hope for the best. You may be creating a bunch of duplicate records and messes, but you don't have time to check, it goes it and it goes out as fast as possible.
The reason why OS's and programs are so bloated today compared to 20 years ago, is because we have the power for the most part to put checks in the system. Most languages now have a Try and Catch exceptions, so we don't need to blow up when something goes wrong. We have robust classes that process information much more carefully. That is why your Windows 3.1 BSOD when you looked at it the wrong way, and your never seen a Windows 7 BSOD unless you were really doing something stupid. Or your Xwindows session in Linux use to cause lockups where you needed to telnet in from an other system to fix it, vs now where that rarely ever happens. More solid code comes at a cost of performance.
If you have tethering you should turn it on, so others can mooch off your service. That way you can lower the cell traffic, and use your cell phone as a hand warmer.
The low numbers, is the fact why it is hard to find exceptional. The population isn't a normal distribution, but shifted a bit. There is always a bit more worthless then exceptional. However if you increase the population up you find more, but if you reduce the population down then you wil find very few.
The worthless developers tend not to last long, if they do, they kinda just suck your sole as you need to make up for them. The Okayish you tend to work with fine, and they don't bother you. The exceptional you may not even realize they are exceptional, they do their job and get done. Also women tend not to brag as much as guys do, so there is less self promotion.
The technology Double Standard. If a person does it, they have a particular fault rate, if the rate is low enough they get credited as really good job. If a computer does it, and they have a fault rate that exceeds the human fault rate by good factors, and it still fails, the idea is a disaster.
In general people don't like giving up control, and doesn't like doing the math to see if they are better off.
The automated driver, has a key advantage, it doesn't get distracted from driving, its primary goal is to get you from point a to point b as safe as possible. It doesn't get distracted by those bad drivers it is just an obstacle to avoid, after it avoided it, it isn't getting all pissy from it. Or if it is stuck in traffic, it will just drive the same without getting stressed about getting late.
Yea it is pretty bad, and no where near the "Greatest Keyboard Shortcut Ever" Because you you restore you tabs, but not not you full state of the page you were in. So it is not like a Ctrl-Z.
Ok yes it is handy if you closed your tab, But nothing I would worry about.
Of course they want it close to DC. Because NASA has a problem with management. So we will have it lead by People who got their jobs in a Big Popularity Contest, and their job is dependent on winning the next one. That will lead to good management.
Heck Cannon is out the Windows in TOS, even in TNG.
We see Trekees or Treckers (which ever one has the negative connotation) Coming up with extended reasons to explain every inconsistency.
Lets face it. TOS and TNG were TV shows meant to be have a full story in one episode. The fact that the guy died a few weeks ago isn't that big of a deal because he wasn't really part of the story, or the fact that minor character started to get more parts thus his history changes a bit.
O'Brian before he got his name, was a LT, his uniform had the LT pips... Then he became a Non-commission officer. Why well early on he was just an extra with a couple of lines. Then they made him a bigger part. Cannon out the window... Who cares.
Well you do also get an iPad that you can do stuff other then reading your text books.
When going to grad school, I was lucky enough that most of my professors gave me PDFs of the documents they wanted to read and the school had an electronic access to journals. So I could get the document in electronic form. This is much better then a text book. For one I have condition where my eyes cannot follow straight lines, making reading books very difficult without a ruler, as I will jump to the next line and read a partial sentence. However on screen I can highlight the text while I am reading, Or have it text to speech the content to me. Where I can sit back and rest my eyes and listen to the content, or read along while it is playing. Making sure that I am not missing anything.
Well for the most of us, Miles per second doesn't really relate to our frame of reference. 1 Mile per second is really fast for us. Heck a Mile per Minute is usually what we consider driving rather fast. We don't think of speed in Miles per second, but Miles per Hours or Kilometers per hour.
So converting to Miles per Hour and Kilometers per hour when they talk about speed, is there to help the general public get a good sense of the speed in terms they normally deal with.
It also gives us a better understanding of the vastness of space. The fact that the Sun is still 5 days away at 1.3 million miles per hour. Puts things into perspective better than 380 miles per second.
Chill dude. Stop get off the news channels for a bit. Go out get a job, volunteer. Bitching on the internet, and trying to twist every new article into being relevant to your particular we are doomed senserio. Isn't going to help anyone, and it just makes you feel bad.
If the worlds going to end. Might as well go out and enjoy yourself.
You must live a sad lonely life, if you are just wasting your prayers on Balmer leaving. If you hate Microsoft so much Just install Linux or get a Mac, and stop worrying about it.
A lot of this I would say isn't Microsoft's fault for the failures. But other disruptive technologies forcing them to move faster then a company its size.
Apple in essence gave up Macs as their business model going to smaller devices. the iPod only really loss its dominance after other companies started making Smart Phones, there was never an iPod killer, the iPod killer with the iPhone. the iPhone in essence gave Apple a 2 year head start in the smart phone market, causing other companies to play catch-up including Microsoft. During this head start they were able to get a bunch of apps, and also push the iPad tablet market, giving an other year push.
Microsoft was working on their own future plans, but was disrupted by Apple, and all its other competitors following suit.
Microsoft is the Desktop Market. They were planning new and great things for the desktop, as seen with Windows 7, which really did shut Apple up in their I am a Mac and I am a PC adds. But their name is so connected to desktop it was a hard sell to reach out of it.

That and NASDAQ was down yesterday due to a computer glitch. Chances are investors are doing double time to get back.
No no you missed the point of Open Source. If they are bugs you blame the the reporter, not the code.
While some open source projects have paid employees offering source. For the most part it is still voluntary, that means there are mixed motives.
So when you report a bug, the developer may get hostile, because you are stomping on his ego. Giving yourself an Ego boost is one reason why people contribute to OSS projects.
Well social media is a proven way to start some great social unrest, in many of the 2nt world countries. Free open internet for all, means far more death and fighting, until people finally realize. Dude is is just some nut posting stuff, Don't let it bother you, if you ignore him then he doesn't have power over you.
Simple, After many decades of doing your job, your fear of heights goes down to near 0. So you just don't think of it as a major thing to remember or forget. I sometimes forget my glasses, or something else I do every day, just because I don't rate it as a high priority thing.
I am willing to bet even with all the rules and regulations in the world, there will be 10 deaths a year due to 10 guys who think they are super men, and doesn't need that safety equipment and will do their job without it, no matter how much it is enforced.
It didn't work for me. It gave me a bunch of New York City teams... However I am closer to Boston then NYC. Although I am in New York state.
Exactly, I love all the woe is me, big brother is out to get me. While you fail to play by the rules set in place.
You want Tax Exempt status, good, make sure you follow the rules to keep it.

That is the point of Major Version releases vs minor version releases.
Minor version changes shouldn't expect any software compatibility breaks. Major version you may expect some.

How many people have died crashing into a telephone pole?
I think more then 10.
This is actually old news. NPR actually covered this months ago. I am surprised that other media didn't jump on this sooner.
