Well it is a combination of a lot of things. 1. The TV reporters are probably lighter then most people. They are TV personalities so they work hard to meet difficult body image standards. 2. Walking against the win is different then standing against it. When you are walking your body is constantly adjusting to forces applies to your body. If you are standing there the. These forces push you off balance and you are more noticeable trying to stand straight. 3. They are probably acting it up a little. The point of the story it to take shelter and stay safe.
I am all for new features. But giving the browser more access to the file structure and networked files, reminds me of the Windows 98 Lets integrate the browser in the OS and the old Netscape, Lets make the browser the OS methodology.
If your browser can do it natively, then you are opening the door for outside sites that use the browser to do it as well. It reminds me of when Active X came out to compete with Java Applets. One of its big selling points was the ability to open and save files. And used a do you trust this Active X as its only security measure. This turned IE into a security nightmare.
Having this feature, even with a lot of safeguards, being native means you may be a single security flaw away from a major problem. Besides unlike 20 years ago, system files are not the big problem, it is what is in your document folders and shared is where all the valuable stuff is.
Thinking back 10-20 years ago. Where if people reported security flaws, the big tech companies other then thanking them for reporting the issues, would try to sue them, to put them in jail for hacking their systems. Not really understanding the hacking community and the fact that most of them are not out to do damage to other people or systems, but just the thrill of finding new ways to get in. Being able to get paid for your efforts helps instinctive the hackers to report their findings, it help the company fix there problems before it become out of hand, and makes sure people are not afraid to use technology beyond its intended purposes and innovate vs using just what is was meant for in fear of getting into trouble by Big Tech.
There are a lot of good ideas that just don’t catch on at the time. 3D Touch May be one of them. But the engineering talent and lessons learned are extremely valuable. And the principals may be used in the future.
True, but they were Living under a Tyrant and Starving. They have just move to living under a Tyrant. This token olive branch would at least bring in a token response back. Say by not revolting for a few months, seeing if you can open a dialog. In general showing if he gives something he will get something back, this will increase the chance of him giving again. However an insult will just be a harsh attack back.
I am not saying revolting is wrong, or the tyrant is in the right. However there are consequences to such actions which may be hard to determine. Where ethically just leaving may be the better choice.
The point is if you are in a bad situation when a mediocre fig leaf is given. Running like nothing was given without any sort of compromise even short term, could bite back harshly. Especially if you are not dealing with a good guy, who has a lot of power.
I have had a bad track record with Cell phones and wires hooked up to it. For the most part I wear out the connector on the phone faster then any of the other components. Granted the Thunderbolt connector seemed to be more reliable then micro usb or the old iphone connector. It takes a toll on the device. I much rather have wireless charging just to have less moving parts on the device.
Still it isn't like Apple has a strong trend of introducing products that failed to get to the market at all. There are a few examples, But other companies seem to have a much worse track record.
I expect the problem was due to a technical issue, that just couldn't be resolved combined with a luke warm demand for the product.
While I am a Computer Scientist and not an Electrical Engineer. I just see a single electromagnetic coil trying to interact with separate ones all requiring different charging time, and sending back to the device different responses would just get very confusing, and would lead to such devices from getting overcharged and damaged, or damaging non-apple products that are suppose to be wireless charged compatible. We really cannot make an Apple only wireless charger, because we can fit other devices on it too. Which could lead to fire and damage.
With all this risk, and the fact that no one really cared to ever ask about the product from last year they problem just dropped it all together, and not worth the risk.
Resignation is far more ethical then sabotage. Sabotaging a project, may not have desired effect, and you could make the situation worse. Especially with this Google/China relationship. China has very fragile forces trying to gain more free speech and uncensored ideas. Getting a Censored Google is a small step in that direction, if the project has been sabotaged it could push the group in power favoring a closed system to push back twice as hard.
The standard tyrant debate. The peasants are not happy and are about to revolt. The Tyrant Raise the food rations. The peasants still revolt the Tyrant will stop all the food rations and send the military to stop the revolt. Because they did the good faith effort, and didn't get anything back. So they this group of people is obviously not rational thus needs to be stopped at all cost.
I can, for the most part I expect they would just resign for "personal reasons". These companies have their share of turnover, even in the senior positions. I am sure many had been for values.
I have quit jobs that I felt has turned me into a bad person, and I would look in the mirror and realized I wasn't happy with what I had became.
Sure we all have jobs that we may not like or disagree with, but if you have a moral objection to it, you should quit your job. If you are Senior Data scientist, Google may have a harder time replacing your job. But I am sure they will find someone to fill the gap. But the thing is, we can't always change the world, but at least we can feel good about our current place in it.
There isn't any way to insure that a User is really the real user. Even if it is a person to person validation, they are ways to fool the system. You seem to be stuck in semantics. Most security problems happen when someone impersonates someone else. They know their login and password, or could guess it in a reasonable amount of time. Now with these additional form of identification such as biometrics, personal key, or unique phone id. Really turns the tide to getting people to impersonate your connection without your permission. Other then downloaded a hacked login and password database from a major site, that didn't handle security as well as they thought. Your identity needs to be directly targeted. They will need to find ways to copy your face or your fingerprints, steal your phone (and get past your phones own biometric or pw logins). The Hackers tend not to make too much money form their hacks, but being that it can be done in bulk without much risk to them, it is still easy money. If they are going to be all sneaky finding a mark trying to get their phone and their fingerprints to fake a system their better off using such time to get an honest job.
We don't need religion to manipulate the masses. I don't buy into the idea of a better world without religion BS. People are just going to hang onto some some other ideal to base their excuse to being cruel to other people. Look at just some of the emotions we get from the stupidest things. The why. There is a dark history where the United States Held onto Slavery longer then the other industrial nations, we had a big war centered around slavery, after it was abolished, the looser of the war still had enough political power to impart laws and regulations that made it nearly impossible for such people to move up in society.
Also Master/Slave relationship in computer science isn't really that good of a metaphor, it is more of a Primary Secondary or Parent and Child. Because the secondary/children concept actually have a large deal of autonomy unrelated to the Primary/Parent.
Why should we feel so threatened that we find a phrase is offensive while there are better alternatives anyways?
I would like to have my list of offensive words ready for when I want to offend. Not just piss people off for no reason, just to tell them that they are bad people for being offended.
I am not getting the point of the article. iPhone - 2 iPhone 3g - 4 iPhone 4 - 3 iPhone 5 - 3 iPhone 5s - 4 iPhone 6 - 3 iPhone 6 plus - 4 iPhone 6s - 4 iPhone 6s plus - 5 iPhone 7 - 4 iPhone 7 plus - 5 iPhone 8 - 3 iPhone 8 plus - 4 iPhone X - 3... iPhone Xs Max - 5
for the most part we just call them, "my phone" (2) or iPhone (2) We would never just go Let me take out my iPhone Xs Max without sounding like a complete jerk.
It would be impractical to have a hyper-loop station in every town, we would still need car to drive to the town without a hyper loop.
You park your car into the Hyperloop Car. Turn the engine off (if fossil fuel based) and sit back and wait for you to get to your destination. Drive out and continue to your last mile.
I would be happy if we had a normal rail system, where I could park my car on a trains flatbed, and just ride it to my destination, even if it was slower then actual driving, but I can use my time, resting, reading and not worrying about how to get to the next 10 miles away from my stop. Renting a car, getting a Taxi hiring an Uber.
The problem is we seem to not be able to separate someones ability to do a job, with their inability to to do something that isn't their job. A CEO isn't a Model Citizen, or even a good spokes person. Their the Chief Executive Officer, So their job is to make the big decisions, and drive the company in a/on particular direction(s).
A good CEO will put the company in a good direction where there is growth and influence. An effective CEO will keep the company on tract in a direction (good or bad). A Bad CEO will cause chaos in the organization and have the company just fiddle in whatever stuff they seem they want to do. Sometimes this works, but most of the time it will just lead to failure.
I expect a lot of their designs would look a lot like many of the Android phones with legitimate (meaning they are just not black display on the screen) notches as well. Probably making it too thin, where it just made it seem off kilter, a corner notch making it look like someone took a bite out if it.
Still such messages can be under free speech. They are just sure to word their message appropriately. By your logic, the tracking down FBI most wanted individuals could be considered calling to hunt down and possibly kill a specific person. Or if you are hawkish towards a particular war then you are talking about hunting down a particular group of people. Trying to explain engineering and chemistry could fall under bomb making instructions.
Now Extremest dangerous hate speech is like porn, you know it when you see it. But governments and computers like clear guidelines with a solid line where to cut it off. If there is a gray area where a decision is made, if you draw the line too early then you are hindering free speech, too late damage has occurred.
I am an iPhone user and the notch is not a feature! It is an engineering trade off. Apple designers if they had their way would not have a notch but make it full screen. But there is some technology they need to put on top to make it a phone and take selfies. So the notch was a trade off just to maximize screen size. Because for the most part the title info on the screen is white space anyways.
The problem is extremist ideas can be created in very insidious ways. Much like the Fat Tony from the Simpsons approach...
Fat Tony: Bart, um, is it wrong to steal a loaf of bread to feed your starving family? Bart: No. Fat Tony: Well, suppose you got a large starving family. Is it wrong to steal a truckload of bread to feed them? Bart: Uh uh. Fat Tony: And, what if your family don't like bread? They like...cigarettes? Bart: I guess that's okay. Fat Tony: Now, what if instead of giving them away, you sold them at a price that was practically giving them away. Would that be a crime, Bart? Bart: Hell, no!
The normal arguments from extremists depending of their audience will work to push the gray areas where parts of the ideas are reasonable, then slowly push the gray areas into the extremist territory. But with an argument with a large gray area, where does one draw a line.
Well it is a combination of a lot of things.
