You are aware, the current autopilot feature isn't the same as autonomous driving?
The Autopilot feature was designed for drivers to still be vigilant however with their hands off the wheels, and in essence to keep the car on the road and in its lane, and avoid collision. It still needs a human driver, to regulate its decisions. This feature is nice when you are on a highway and in a safe easy driving condition, and you can help relax your eyes, and refocus yourself, knowing that you car will stay in the lane, and not drive off the road. However if you are in an area with traffic, people, construction... You need to be smart enough to drive it yourself.
Autopilot is a safety feature much like cruse control, which realizes that we as humans have only so much attention that we can work with, and needs a way to relax our minds for a few minutes. So we are better prepared for more advanced problems in the future.
We all hate virus scanners, and other security products, because they slow our systems way down, they often will slow our systems more then the actual malware would. However the designers need to find some sweet spot on speed of their tools vs effectiveness of these tools. So flaws like this is understandable, because actually validating the signature will take more time to process vs. the current number of malware that uses this trick.
Now that it is known, I expect security companies will now have to fix their code to check for this, and slow our systems down further. Part of the popularity of these closed ecosystems of iOS vs MacOS is the ability to only allow good actors to work on your platform, while blocking any unknown actors (good or bad) from causing harm, reducing the need for external security software which will slow the system down.
Zero and Nothing or Zero and Null really are different.
For example if your credit card has a balance of 0 is different then if you do not have a credit card, or never had a balance.
The balance of 0 means you have a paid an equal amount of money that you have purchased. Vs having no purchases or payment. This is factored in when calculating your credit score. If you have a 0 balance, your credit score will be factored in how much you have purchased and how much you had paid off. vs. not having a balance, meaning you haven't purchased anything.
There is often a lot of data behind 0, will Nothing or Null means there isn't any data behind the number. There is a reason why Math teachers and professions grade you on your work which will account for more credit then the actual answer. Because while having an accurate answer is important, the process is the key to mathematics to prove the answer.
Also it isn't what you do, but how you do it. For the most part the Obama campaign was about bringing in voters to vote for him, while Cambridge Analytica was using the data to prevent people from voting for the opposition.
Democracy is about people voting their opinions. Ideally everyone should be voting for good or for ill.
It is worse then that, some of the channels I use to love to watch in the old days, Cartoon Network, the Learning Channel, BBC America... Use to have a variety of shows to watch. Now Cartoon Network only has Teen Titan Go, The Learning Channel has my 600lbs life, and BBC America swaps to Star Trek and Dr. Who.
Sure they may be the popular shows, but having them on all the time at the cost of other gems they have rights too is a wast and there is only so much (for some of the show 1 is too much) of these shows I can watch.
However a USB Cable I got in 1998 will still work with a USB 3 port on my laptop 20 years later.
The general rule of thumb of modern computing is if the connector fits, then it should work. (There are exceptions such cross over cables, and some serial connectors over RJ-45) If that port is a female, three rows, and 15 pins, then that is VGA port, if the device I get from a reputable source has that pin out, and I plug it into my computer, the device should work off of it.
Network Broadcast TV. Has the problem of trying to reach as many people as possible. It needs to be entertaining, but it cannot be insulting, informative, but shouldn't go over peoples heads.
Or even on many minor networks. Network TV seems to have an 8th grade education baseline for its Smart for Adults TV Shows. While I am not a Hardware Person (I had one class in college with breadboards making simple logic circuits.), I was watching a video on You Tube about how to layout chips for a PCB to be manufactured. The video didn't bother explaining how electricity goes threw conductive sources. But things like sizing for the correct voltage, aligning things in logic order and in a ways you can easily solder it. Also noting not to put in 90 degree bends as it is bad form. Being a guy who just as a passing interests in electronics (I specialize in programming) I learned new stuff, and best practices. For the average Joe, Who never even hooked a light-bulb to a battery, or got an LED to work without burning it out. Much of this was over their head, and the content would had been boring not informative.
Network TV will tend to dumb down stuff, just so it can reach the mass of the audience. Sites like You Tube, may be extremely advanced, or really simple. Being some videos are meant to skip over the easy stuff, and replay the hard stuff, and link to other videos that explains a topic that may be glossed over.
However the side effect is that sites like you tube have a lot of useless crap, and click bate. But at least if you find it you and stop playing it and jump to the next thing.
The real problem isn’t lack of knowledge. But problems in real life. I worked in tech for a while. I made money during the tech bubble during the 1990s. It popped in 2003. For a period of 2003-2005 I was making less then I was before. And it took me almost that time to readjust my life style. Selling your home finding a new one. Having to decide to pay off your expensive car or sell it for a cheaper one (both not easy choices). Then there is family who may not be willing to make the same financial sacrifices that you may want. Emergency with home/auto/health cut into your savings as well.
That 5k after taxes a month can be used up rather quickly and not for fancy life style luxury. Just for maintaining an average like that this average should offer you.
Granted at this average salary we have enough to save for retirement. But that is an average. So half the population is below average, meaning that may not have the money to save for retirement. And some who are above average may not Choose to do so.
More to the point, There are a lot of vendors who partner with Intel, it will take time to end out their contract and make a good one with AMD. Then these partners will need to make sure they don't make AMD Chips sound like the budget alternative.
That and Apple has a history of dropping CPU Chip makers. While your old 8088 XT is similar and still maintains a lot of compatibility with your Core i7 8th gen processor Dell. Even with just the Macintosh line had 3 major chip changes, it is actually due for one now.
Back in 2005 time AMD was making significant headway in becoming the Chip for your PC right before Intel released the Core duo chip. The Pentium Line was getting aging and the Pentium-5 wasn't that popular and AMD was the chip for your PC. AMD had about a year or two of popularity.
Then Intel made the Intel Core Duo and the Core 2 Duo chip (64 bit) which put AMD back. But right before then, Intel was seen as the dying giant.
I've always used the internet, telephone or any service where data is out of my direct control figuring that I could be spied upon.
This has been true even in the days before the internet. If during the 1970's or 1980's I went grocery shopping. Being a reoccurring customer, I could spark interest if I had changed my shopping habits. Private Investigators would watch peoples shopping habits dig in their trash to find clues on what they are investing.
Douglas Adams wrote for the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy Radio Series (First) About this torture device called the Total Perspective Vortex. Which simply showed your place in the universe. Causing the victim to die a painful death, on realizing how insignificant they are in the perspective of the entire universe.
I expect a similar and much smaller scale effect is happening with access to the internet, and a flood of 24 hour news showing how tiny you are, and how little impact that you are doing to anything is depressing.
Back before all this or when it just started. You could be the big man in your town, the Sports Star, the business owner, the guy with a Masters or a Doctorate. Your society as relatively small, events outside you world were shown in small doses often censored to keep up with your sensibilities. Sure you may get called off to War, but you knew you part of the good guys. There are complex problems, we knew they were "Egg Heads" working on them and their solutions will fix things. But you knew your place in the world, chances are you are doing better then your parents, you have stuff that society says that you should have. You feel good about yourself.
Now being the local expert isn't a big deal, because anyone will google the answer, or watch the real pros play. Local news is mostly limited to the Weather and Traffic. All the problems of the world have half of the people blaming you/your ideals/your life style as the problem. The so called Experts show they don't have as a full grasp as you believed and can only do so much....
For me to find meaning in my life, I often need to cut myself off from the media. just because it is too much.
It does work, but it isn't an open standard. Same problem with Facetime, or WebEx.
At my work, we have fancy Cisco teleconference systems. Which only work for WebEx. The vendor may be using Skype, so it will not work, an exec may call in on their iPhone (and doesn't have the WebEx or Skype app installed).
Businesses who are strict on security are not so keen on having apps install that use the camera.
If more people (whatever their income) goes online then internet usage will rise. No Duh. Tables are cheap computers, which can be given as gifts to low income people. Or purchased in installments with Cell phone plans, which may be easier for lower income people to get a hold of.
While the Cockpit would need windows, the rest of the plane doesn't. We can still have exit doors, and most of the other things can probably be done via video feed.
Being lately we had a few issues, with Windows failing on airplanes. It is probably overall safer to not have windows.
Well bringing up the war of 1812 was stupid. But Canada was part of England during the war of 1812, so they were part of the invasion. Also England won the war of 1812, as its objectives was to prevent the U.S. from taking over English Territories (Canada).
Trump gets a talking point to show how great of a deal maker he is. Trump doesn't care about money, it is about his Ego.
However the key problem with the Trump Administration is a lack of any long term strategy. Most countries are playing nice right now, as to avoid losing out on existing effort and investments. However for the long term, countries, and companies, will start to look for a more diverse trading base to help keep their market stable. Historically counties likes to work with the US because we were consistent and stable.
For businesses with long term customers, the good customer who pays their bills on time, and treats the business fairly, will often get a discount. For the company owner he knows he could be making more money with a less stable customer because you can charge them more, but the steady predictable customer will help make sure the business runs more smoothly.
Trump was in real estate, which is more about the short term customer. You probably will never need to deal with them again, so milk them for all you can get away with.
Now ZTE may or may not be a National Security problem, But a deal was made, both sides agreed, but the question is for the long term relationship with ZTE will it keep trying to work with the US market, to deem it too risky to use again. Just as if you buy a car, and then you realized that you got a lemon of a car, the next one you get will be with a different dealer.
My home is near the border of three states. I work and live in one state, and I go shopping in an other. The third state, doesn't have close by major towns, so I don't go there much.
You are confusing a progressive idea, with extremists in the progressive movement. They are extremists in nearly any type of view. So 50 years ago, a progressive Idea is that a woman can hold a job, and be married. The extremist position is that Woman should have all the jobs and the Men must stay at home and do the house work. In a country that ideals itself on the idea of freedom, social norms for the sake they are social norms shouldn't be regulated or controlled.
There are a lot of social norms that have been changed, and doesn't create more chaos, because such change isn't managed by the extremist, but by more tempered minds of the general population.
Also just labeling an idea as progressive doesn't automatically categorize it as a good idea or a bad one. Eugenics was a progressive idea back in the 1940's that was a bad idea. Equal rights while much harder to implement is a good one.
A quote from TFA: "Most of it is automated, but someone watches it all the time, and someone carries a beeper."
They are not watching the clock tick. but they are making sure the conditions stay consistent, and all parts are working. A physical person watching a clock to see it going off by a nanosecond isn't possible.
If the US company supplies goods and services to the foreign company then they will need to abide by their rules. I am looking at a charger that I bought a while back. It is from Samsung (A Korean company), Which was made in Vietnam, but the Label notes that "This device complies with part 15 of FCC Rules" Because if it didn't they will not be able to sell it in the US.
Now You Tube offers services to other countries, it shows them adds, which they get paid for. There are companies from other countries that pays them money to show these adds. So they will either need to abide by the law of the country for content delivered there, or stop offering its service there.
US using its size and influence, may help ease some of these issues, however we are rapidly burning good karma with our trading partners, so they will less likely to be bullied, and will most likely pick away on non-essensials imports from the United States.
