Back during introduction to Astronomy back in college. We were taught the earths rotation is slowing, due to the moons gravitational force on the earth. Because the earth has a greater force then the moon, that is why the moon rotates once every 28 days so it always faces the earth. But its force is slowing the earths rotation to a point where the earth is only going to rotate every 28 days. And the moon will always be seen above one spot on earth.
The original Star Trek was full of "socio-political jerking, of social justice crap as well as nationalist crap both of which are their own brand of cancerous retardation" But they were different issues of the time.
This problem is Star Trek and Star Was has too much history to express today's topic and problems.
Lets target misogyny as an issue for today. In the original Star Trek many statements, by the actors, and actions would by today's standard be considered misogynistic while back then it was fairly progressive. In 50 years things that are common for us to do and say will probably be insulting too, while they may be doing things that will insult our current taboos. Keeping Star x around and trying to make characters created that fit the ideas and problems of a half century ago, just will not work.
They can create a new Science fiction universe Like Star Trek or Star Wars, but base it off what is current.
While not a great example "The Orville" Is a lot like Star Trek and is more Star Trek then ST:D. However it isn't bogged down by Cannon Such as Teleporters, and a bunch of Tech-Talk solutions to problems from past series. The characters and their problems are based more on current problems of the day. And havn't been written as some future super human.
It was probably one of those things, when discussed, his eyes glazed over and started tweeting on his phone. That is Nerd stuff that doesn't matter to Trump.
I have dealt with Bosses much like Trump. Just as long as the topic isn't on his Priority Wish List or the Hate List, just as long as you made some partial argument for it, you are good to go.
AI Research will not make Trump look great, nor will it make him look worse. If it is a success he can then call it a great success, if it fails, he will just be like it was a little side project.
Guys like Trump are easily manipulable, avoid the trigger areas, and work on their ego, and you are the shining star, and you get to do whatever you want.
Or in my case a name of a sports star. However the persons name has always been tricky in the domain world. Just if Microsoft tried to sue MikeRowe.com Because the actor MikeRowe phonically is similar.
How does this differ from most shareware games. Back then most were using some game engine, and changed the graphics, and maps around, and called it a new game, while you knew it was some other game just modified a bit.
How many applications did you use to have to download and run on your computer 35 years ago. vs. What you need to download now.
We had programs that checked your bank account via a modem. They were checkbook programs, tones of game we played once. Dictionaries, Encyclopedia... All on disk (Well CD (25 years ago)). Even if we were a avid BBS User, we would have a couple of Terminal Emulators, Software that would download message boards, so you can read it offline and sync them back when you get online again....
Most of this crap software we don't even download executable but access via the Web.
You have gone to the cloud and didn't even realize it. The fact that you are posting on Slashdot shows this.
Star Wars and Star Trek need to stop. It isn't that these new movies are bad or worse then before. But Star Wares and Star Trek were stories, characters and a fictional universe of a different era.
Prequels are especially tricky. Because we are applying our 40+ years of change of culture, and applying it to a story set 20+ years before the first movie.
The 2018 idea of the Rogue Anti-Hero is different then the 1978 Rogue Anti-Hero. Then trying to place this Anti-hero in a story before his first appearance. Just makes the feel of the story inconsistent.
These characters are fictional characters, made primary to entertain us. They do this by exaggerating traits that we expect to see. In Episode IV we didn't watch Han Solo deal with the contract and payment negotiation with Obewan. Or the days of just handing around shipping goods, playing chess with Chewy. As far as we see it. Han is always on the edge of disaster.
Actually I think it is because most software is hooked to the cloud. And we pay for service contract to use it monthly vs. having the software on your PC.
Having taking Strategic Business Analysis I think it was Business 630 or something. Both methods have merit and costs.
Being on the leading edge and keeping a strong lead from your competitors can make sure you are holding a solid lead in your market. However it could cause a lot of expense in reworking your manufacturing process over and and over again. A lot of R&D expense isn't as much on how to make a newer and faster chip. But to product it at a price people are willing to pay for it. (This is the model that Intel seems to be following for its iX chips, with a new generation and updates all the time.)
Then you have a strategy of making a product selling it for as long as you can, then come up with a much more advanced upgrade. This lets you sell what is popular for a long time, reduce risk in making an unpopular product, and not having to make a new wheel every few months. However there is a risk that someone can catch up in this time. (This is common method that Apple does)
As with any strategy there is a point where you can go too far. We need time for us have faith in the product, we also need the product to be better then our last upgrade.
We are swarmed with real and fake information all the time. Real information may be used out of context, Fake information can be made to sound realistic, and if it fits into your particular world view it makes a lost of sense.
We are no better off knowing the truth, when it is mixed in a bunch of lies, except for the fact we are now anxious about it.
There is a bunch of things I don't get about Apple. They are still reluctant on touchscreens while nearly every manufacturer has one. Their keyboards which use to be on the same stage as Thinkpads have gotten gimmicky.
For the most part that is a true statement. (As I type on a mechanical switch keyboard)
However if you are going to need the extra processing power of a laptop. Chances are you are going to be some sort of content creator.
Touchscreens are fine, for mostly web browsing and short posts. most games casual games can be converted to a touch screen, more in depth games probably should have game controller.
However if you are going to do some serious writing if you are a writer, or coding, or in general creating and altering a lot of data. A good keyboard is important.
That is a known risk of developing for the Apple platform. Which is also why Apple never got a serious foot hold in the enterprise market.
Any Mac Developer or Apple developer should know by now, they are one version away from a major rewrite.
While it does suck, it does help keep the software for the Mac current, and built for cross compatibility in mind, or at least with best practices.
Mac users don't often run into cases like we do in windows where someone running windows 10 and Office 95. Or that third party VB app built with hundreds of active X controls, that get unregistered on you randomly.
Is this the early 2000's where we were all drooling over the faster hertz speed of the clock.
We have been parallelizing the chips and software for over a decade now to reach meaningful speed improvements, while not really caring much about the clock speeds. This approach actually has been a good thing, it allowed great improvements in mobile chip design which cannot draw tones of power and doesn't need a radiator to keep it from melting itself.
Hurting an economy is better then killing civilization.
Not everything is about economy, some problems are worth hurting the economy for in order to fix a foundation.
Now I couldn't find any reference about $9.00/L Canada prices, so I am going to place that under fake news to scare us Hard Working Americans about those dangerous LiBeRaLs. Or it was a passing phrase in a brain storming idea taken out of context.
Also to note, when Gas prices rise, people change their habits. We saw this back in during the 2008 great recession, where peoples earnings went down but gas prices shot up. People began to sell their Trucks and SUV that they only use for normal commuting, and switched to smaller more fuel efficient cars, or even motorcycles. When prices dropped again, people started buying big Trucks and SUVs. So a carbon tax, will not cause people to leave the US in droves (Because where will they go, the US is behind most other countries in terms of environmental regulation, other countries will be worse) but will change their habits, towards better usage of the expensive fuel, or switch to a less expensive fuel source.
Now if we can actually weather threw a self proposed recession in order to get our foundations fixed, we may be able to grow a much stronger economy on top of it.
We can't. But you should know full well. When we say Carbon Neutral. We are talking about carbon output that we cause and can control. Carbon Neutral doesn't even factor in the air we exhale.
However in a million years, when all our politics have been forgotten and our technology at best would be lumped together into advancements of a few thousand years, but more likely forgotten. If there is still intelligent life on earth, and the geologist look at our past, they will probably expect that our time period was a period of extreme volcanic activity. To the level that we saw during the dinosaur extinction.
Is there a company, or organization or even a person that you can really point to and say this is truly a force for good?
We live in a world with trade-offs. We can't get what we want exactly how we want it. And what we need is different for every person, and changes all the time.
Having worked with many of these Evil corporations, and working with some of the organizations that people seem to call good. There isn't a super villain attitude of some guy trying to make lives difficult for people. But people who are trying to improve their own lives and their family as a priority as millions of years of evolution have conditioned us to do.
So the demand was for food, that is free of pests, and will not be less toxic. Monsanto did that.
I kinda stopped caring when Apple Stopped caring. The Last Mac that I got was 12 years ago, it was my primary laptop for about 6 years, and I am on my second one.
After iOS and the iDevices became apples money maker. The Macintosh lineup has gotten rather bland. They are still fine systems, but nothing really wows me, like they use to. Compared to a Asus Zenbook or even a Dell XPS I am not seeing anything really big for the differences.
Even the Apple style of laptops seems to be about the same as a 2002 powerbook. Thinner lighter, But still a gray metal laptop.
I expect they may be steps in launching an App to validate that it is the actual app, checksum the executable. that may take some time, which may be able to be done as a background check. Or outside the normal time. You can also have parts of the executable set to be in the buses pipeline at a better time. The newer iPhone have a rather complex chip just for statistics. I bet you can use that to get a better fetching and storing algorithm.
It is 2018, Societies priorities are way screwed up. Comparing the importance to an iPhone vs Curing cancer is small potatoes. But what is really important is comparing the environmental and social/economic impact of small potatoes vs the larger russet potatoes.

I would have FS4DDD File System For Developers, Developers, Developers...
Or perhaps BFS Blamer File System.

Culturally, Japanese will be outwardly humble. Bragging about your collection to the public would be in bad taste.
I play to win games, but not at the cost of having fun with the game.
How does this differ from most shareware games. Back then most were using some game engine, and changed the graphics, and maps around, and called it a new game, while you knew it was some other game just modified a bit.

Most software has a free trial, or free to play.... In essence the Shareware model is rather strong now. So we can see if we like the program or not.
As for the rest of the points. I am not going to argue them.

So far it seems to work better then Carbon Neutral by Free Market.
