Not enough details supplied to gauge merit of either sides position.
Curious what kind of arrangement was agreed to allow 10 months of collaboration then take a hike we are pursuing a different direction. Was KEyssa gullibly over selling or Essential negotiating in bad faith , or other?
âoeEssential ended this relationship after over 10 months and later told Keyssa that its engineers would use a competing chipâ
Did Essential pass tech to the competitor ? Would expect the competing chip Co also to be involved in the litigation.
Anyway need to see how the lawyers and courts sort out. Even if Keyssa able to fully justify their claim The damages will probably be small proportional to the low volume of devices sold but might help deter others from trying to save $ and circumvent Keyssa. Will Essential be able to afford a legal fight? Maybe another consideration of Keyssa tactics.
Kobo has been selling water proof readers for years. In Japan the readers nice for baths . Amazon doing well in Japan for e-Commerce so will be a good market to help get more Amazon devices in Japanese hands. Alexa Echo etc... announced to be available later this year.
Summer is over for North Hemisphere so a little late for beach goers but the hot spring season just getting started.
e-Ink nice for readers but still a niche market since many folks would like color , browsing and other tablet capabilities.
Agree a blanket ban seems extreme and could balance with other incentives or fees. The silver lining is a small country piloting the concept and they might adjust for special cases if sensible. The Dutch very proactive in agriculture and environmental sustainability. For instance, emphasis on bicycle transport. First, reduce heavy transport energy consumption with conservation. Electric bicycles adoption increasing encouraging. I tried one but preferred to pedal a lighter load, regular bike, and not bother with the charging. Gogoro concept interesting.
Why share source when fair chance could be leaked to hackers and / or competition with no business case.
Open source might be ideal but many Companies make more money and potentially can make better products investing in development, support etc..
The CEO indicated there was not a good business case to share. His judgment but seems rational.
38M is greater Tokyo region, quite a large area and not that many people at risk if a huge event occurred. However the city center with wards like Edogawa at sea level with multiple rivers running on both sides could be swamped if sudden & or prolonged heavy rain over ran existing drainage. The system upstream can help alleviate heavy rain flooding more proactively. It wonâ(TM)t stop all flooding but should help minimize and most of all hopefully avoid a catastrophic flood.
Autonomous vehicles could start with cargo in restricted road lanes ( barriers) . Musk / Tesla semi haulers are a good trial case. Soon can transition to remote roads etc...
In parallel semi autonomous is helpful like anti brake Locks , cruise control, parking assistance etc
Environment can cause phone batteries to swell. From experience, older used iPhones inspected then shipped by air have arrived with a small percentage swollen. This is a new device which should not swell. Since a hot commodity-New expensive even if gray, procured far away and shipped unlikely to have sat in a very damp environment for long, which is what sometimes happens to old used devices shipped in bulk which donâ(TM)t need to be sold so quick and increases swells with the changing air pressures in cargo flights. I didnâ(TM)t check on if any differences in 8 batteries vs 7 maybe new supplier or spec change?
Sprint and T-Mobile can beat each other up on the low end or team up and invest in a network that can rival the big 2 plus have economies of scale to offer services at less cost to consumers.
This might hurt competition at lower end but should help at mid tier.
A deal is not a fore gone conclusion . T-Mobile should not over pay for Sprint with its high debt and less compatible CDMA 3G 1X infra. Sprintâ(TM)s spectrum and not undercutting T-Mobile plus the efficiencies that can be gained reducing overlapping Operating expenditures. Less executives, call centers, and SGA throughout.
Sleeker housing should last longer. Less warranty issues, tiny bit more space. Better water , dust protection etc... I prefer a cable for power so donâ(TM)t need to bother with charging headset. I am ok with a dongle but prefer the old fashion headphone jack, but aware it is a bulky and damage prone hole on the sleek handsets. If decent selection of USB C or lightning direct fed headphones available I will consider buying for convenience. Boo to wireless headphones only.
Since no flying dogs, Security services are evaluating training birds to attack drones.

Back to the drawing board Wiley Coyote.
Stealth drones, disposable decoys etc... escort pigeons , sky is the limit on alternative approaches.
Drones have lots of potential but more to learn on optimizing use.
5K Chinese, Japanese, Hindi, German, Spanish etc... Multi language will take a tremendous effort but once they get critical mass for minor deviations then can scale back development.
Housing its main distinguishing feature , while hi-end it is lower priority to very capable less costly aluminum & gorilla glass standard. Also, Does not offer water proof or headphone jack or memory card expansion. iPhone 7 offers waterproof so a tradeoff for headphone and mem card. Likewise other non water proof phones offer head phone and or mem card.
Mediocre camera but offers a nifty magnetic accessory. Folks essentially want the base product features first with accessories as the name implies secondary.
Essential was supposed to offer plain Android along with other compatible products soon to be announced.
There could still be room for Essential device but should prioritize price and features better. They really goofed on the housing trade offs. They positioned the device poorly against iPhone 8 and Galaxy S8. Sprint is discounting to a high mid tier level but that limits TAM to Sprint subs ok with a contract lock-in. However, Essential seems to be more of a Pixel type device.
Anyway expect the prices to come down if significant stocks built. Hopefully they were wise to run a small launch batch. Cut their losses on the PH1 model and reconfigure. Sprint can help firesale excess stocks overseas thru sister co Brightstar.
Zara expanding online but still leverages retail where better able to get customer sentiment.
Even Amazon testing how to utilize retail.
Expect retail to continue decline overall but will also get better to offer more than online. Of course otherwise no point. Panasonic in Ginza offers beauty salon services along with gadgets which can easily buy online to so no need to carry home but retail helps the touch and try experience.

Anyone who can afford a recent iPhone can afford an inexpensive emergency radio.
In Japan, where earthquakes, floods, landslides have raised awareness for people to stock basic emergency supplies including hand crank charging radio/flashlights which are fairly inexpensive and more reliable in an emergency. Of course these are typically left at home. Phones usually with a person but unless on a hike should be near some place with a functional radio.
Yes, would be helpful if iPhones offered FM radio. Apple stingy on this small feature should be explained. As others indicated an antenna adapter could be an accessory. Many folks would probably forgo and use the $20 for a more functional dedicated FM/AM radio. My Sony Walkman has FM radio though signal often poor but good enough for hearing voice warnings.
Think Apple will wait for a calmer time to address this issue which is being amplified due to the emergency. iPhone scoped out the feature since rarely important to most. A water proof iPhone 7 could be argued more durable and useful when a hurricane rolls through.
Sorry but I think the outrage is over blown on this feature missing in an iPhone. If important get an Android or a dedicated radio.
Will this phone only support the Finney Coins or will it support other coins too?
Seems like launching a mobile device along with their new ICO. Having a secure computing device would of course be helpful and an apprehension to many currently-( besides the coin bubble risks, getting ripped off / hacked also a concern e.g Mt Vox).
Maybe team up with Essential they seem to have capital $ and Rubin's name.
Meanwhile Japan banks are looking to launch J-Coin digital currency. An established device manufacturer plus banks could help launch devices and block chains folks might be more accepting. Getting a large base of users the challenge.
Imagine a fair amount of advertising on- line much like off-line worthless but part of the discovery process. Try X campaign if positive results then maybe effective if not a learning cost. Need to learn before going bankrupt.
Advertising does work if have a desirable product and reach correct audience.
Advertising also bothers a lot of people who are irrelevant and adds unnecessary costs to products when not effective.
I find products and services that offer discounts for registering most effective for me since I have an interest to begin. If I can get a deal then more likely to buy within reasonableness. Only buying so much stuff.
I have not purchased anything from a FB advertising to my recollection. Yet FB and Google know more about me then I care.
While sweetener deals with states not new, The WI / FoxConn deal one of the largest and since recent will serve as a comparable much like the NFL & NBA stadium subsidies.
Amazon now shopping for a new location. Will be interesting to see who else follows.
The bankers and consultants will likely be sharpening their presentations to try and drum up some new business.
Why are good and bad movies same price ?
Let studios decide. Often good movies at HD are more expensive initially but later when no longer popular since early viewers watched then prices drop. Likewise bad movies should be cheap sooner though they do come down faster than the popular movies.
$20 for a stream approaching a DVD/ BD price another challenge but streaming on demand so convenience offers some differential value.
Who owns Pur.ism?
Open your financials and crowd fund stock along with undeveloped products if really such a swell benevolent organization vs here is my money give me something of value maybe.

Sony the top Japanese brand in Japan but still way behind Apple and think Samsung also ahead of Sony.
