Wow, I bought a Toshiba satellite, and after 3.5 years of playing rough I finally abandoned it. An I must say, was carrying everyday I dropped to the ground a couple of times, and behave perfectly.
I'm not glad to say that the only parts that broke were the metallic pieces that hold the display, therefore It became useless (since it was annoying to hold the lid with magic tape).
The hard drive that stopped responding once after I already wasn't working too much on it recovered itself.
Never called or had to talk to Toshiba for any maintenance.
If runs linux, I wouldn't go if that runs on MS OSs. However, about the question:
Would you trust a robot to park your car?
I think it's clear that robots won't take your car for a spin, won't move your seats and mirrors or smoke in your car. Unless of course Bender is already out there working for them.
I don't think it's completely a person's problem. After all, media and advertisement have work REALLY hard on making people believe they have to be popular. So, they guy should get back, saying that he was deeply affected for not having friends and being rejected from the cyber-society.
On the other hand, have you ever write a code that does something you didn't expect because you made a simple mistake? Well, I guess the guy wasn't expecting this result either.
Anyway, it was fun. Good think I don't use myspace anyways.
I have to say that I agree with you up to some point.
1st. So what are we going to do.. having 2G iPods forever just to make good measurements?
2nd. iPods are technology, they get cheaper by demand, and demand depends on market penetration. So if Apple doesn't have a good marketing strategy, and they have to sell it either cheaper or more expensive, is that a problem?
3rd. Many countries have to import those products and pay taxes for them, which leaves manufacturers in a quite nice advantage.
4th. Countries where money and acquisition power is an issue, they buy iPods as luxury, otherwise, you can always get away with another (cheaper brand), so at some extent this could also be like measuring using a particular model of a Rolex.
5th. Here it comes the problem with the Big Mac, and is also the philosophy of McDonalds of importing products from other countries too, even though they can find them in the local market. I know cases of different McDonalds in South American countries where they had to change the way of thinking because local markets were cheaper (and had better quality) than their imported products, making them a more expensive meal. (Higher prices than a regular lunch at a good restaurant). So McDonadls became a luxury also (Who would thing so!)
So finally, I would guess what keeps being important and a best measurement is daily use products, like potatoes, meat, toilet paper, etc. It is just plain ridiculous using such a product as a measurement.
They have spent about a quarter million dollars on anti-spam software and hardware, which doesn't include the cost of bandwidth, storage, man-hours, or lost productivity.
Besides the quarter million spent in software that probably can get for free. Do you think that hardware, bandwidth and storage prices are heavily influenced by spam? Isn't that like saying that bricks and paint prices are influenced by graffiti?
I know it's annoying, but does it make any sense? That just promotes vandals doing it just for the fun of "catch me if you can".
But that's just my point of view of causeless wars. They need to be penalized, but I don't think it's necessary to worry that much and spend millions also in the solution.
From my point of view, there are lost causes. Among them I include war against alcohol (prohibition by the time of Al Capone), Same thing with tobacco and now with drugs. We keep looking for spending millions on solving problems that might not be worth it, and it is part of education what solves the problem, instead of millions given to lawyers to fight only ONE in a court.
So what you are saying is that Visa, Master Card and Amex are not as international as you wanted? Bad advertisement for them
how Google checkout knows about it anyways? Because you told them?
It's like saying you can't take your card to another country because they will reject it for being foreign. I don't believe Google does that but merchants can do if they cannot provide with certainty information about their shipping and delivery system outside the US (although FedEx provides a great service - good for them).
1. User puts the credit card.
2. User clicks "buy"
3. Google takes credit card and pays to merchant.
4. Profit??
Somewhere in the middle, what do you use human interaction for?
That really means that if you try too hard and don't get the Nobel you lose 2 years of your like. It's literally killing your self. Therefore, relax and stop thinking about getting a Nobel.
I don't think it worth trying to get one because: not only you'll probably don't get it, but you'll be condemned to die sooner than the #@!%!$ who took it from you!.
I think the strategic advantages of IE6 over Firefox were lost when switching to IE7 and there is no return.
To me, these advantages where: 1. Program loading time: IE6 used to open quicker than firefox and also some pages. Not anymore 2. IE6 used to show pages differently to what firefox did, I think that was changed. Or people is really interested in writing the code for Firefox (or compatible) and It has been a while since a page was incorrectly displayed or told me so.
When you said bugs, I thought on killer bees or mosquitoes in the suit. Now, that would be a pain! (or a good attack, I don't believe is completely sealed and as somebody already said, what happens if they throw the guy to a swimming pool?).
I used WordStar and WordPerfect 4.x and 5.1. I thought WP5.1 was the best word processor ever, but people moved to Word because of Windows. Later, WP tried to move to windows and it was not the same. I loved the equation editor in WP51
The first feature I tried from the new version of Word, was... Equation Editor, and I think it's much better and it auto-reformats whenever I try to bring some simple LaTex (or WP51) into it, which is a nice feature. So, next thing I'll try is those @#$! pictures staying where I want to!
Is it HotOrNot.com is a reliable source. I just browsed and scores... well.. that just made me believe even more, that you have to take into account the reliability of your judges.
Better yet, post them on internet, and millions of people will do the job. However, how do you really know what "best appearance" is? Perhaps for different men "best appearance" ideas are a bit different than the concept for women. Or even among women or men, the "best appearance" concept might differ.
Quite subjective research with few samples to obtain a significant results.

For that price, I really rather buy the Samsung Q or the Sony Vaio UX280P.
Well, you can put a rubber duck where ever you want.
Of course was the driver's fault if he was using his iPhone!

I agree, additionally, the revolution is the marketing strategy of Apple (which isn't new).
I'd rather have the Nokia N95. About the keyboard, how would you know how to change a song without taking the iPhone out of your pocket?

Can I file a lawsuit against AOL for all this years filling my mailbox with CDs and stuff? Would that stop them?
Although, Now that I think, I haven't received one of those CDs in sometime, Could it be that someone already did it?

I'm not interested in one, that takes me out of the study and consequently I'll live anonymously much longer than you.
Long live to longevity!

I didn't post anonymously because I'm sure in your infinite pride for your price, you won't even remember my name.

or perhaps just AOL fliers.
Oh wait, they don't need that. They even send CDs home!
Well, if they can jam the printers and print stock values... that might be as well annoying.

Agree, all the conditions given, it's most likely people can spend lots of time to download just one of those.
I should try to do this using my dial-up connection... although it might take some months.

I wonder if they will change the name of it thanks to ciscos iPhone

Even high-school kids use proxy servers to get to myspace. I'm pretty sure there is an easy work around.
I mean, the whole joke goes for the reproduction ritual of these mosquitoes.
Aedes aegypti? I think they were talking about Dengue Fever in it.
