I don't think this is a troll, i mean, i thought it too. I have modpoints, but... well.... it's not troll.... it's not insightful.... not funny, over, or underrated, not particularly interesting, not necessarily flamebait, not redundant, certainly not informative, being a question.... but not *quite* offtopic either... sigh....
CompizConfig settings manager has a plugin called "move window" which provides window movement. You can set mouse and keyboard shortcuts to move windows, as well as choose to "Constain y".
It all comes down to situation. This varies greatly. I am a poor, half-starved college student, and If I couldn't download the occasional album, I would simply do without. Just as I do not have a television or cable service, and many of my peers think that's weird. However, In my tiny, bedroom-only apartment, I simply could not fit a spare CRT Television from home (campus is across state from home) and I simply cannot justify purchasing a new flat-panel when we already have a spare 19' CRT TV or two at home.
Why would I pay ~12-20 bucks for an album when I can see a live band at a bar for 2 bucks every other weekend? I'd say that's been far more entertaining than a CD would have been.
The real question is what are the hard stats? How many people would actually pay for music if they actually could, and couldn't obtain them otherwise? Additionally, with the advent of cheap, ubiquitous digital replication, the perceived value of a recording has gone down, and copyright now only serves to attempt to artificially inflate the "value" of a recording. As my father always told me, something is only worth what people are willing to pay for it.
Wow. I thought college was supposed to be a bastion of learning, opportunity, and freedom. Sound like that college sucks. I hate to say it, but if their internet policy is so retarded, you can bet it's not the only shortcoming at the campus. Go to a school that treats you like an adult.
Ah, and therein lies the catch. According to copyright law, and the *AA, they do not sell you a copy of the video. They sell you a limited license to use the copyrighted work. With DRM, that license includes provisions for arbitrarily removing access to that work whenever they want.
Maybe they didn't have $20 to give? Maybe the only method of payment they could use is checks (some people have no credit card) which would take DAYS to arrive by mail? This even applies to the Police. There may have been no quick or easy route to get $20 from the police coffers without lots of paperwork. But perhaps an officer should have ponied up his credit card, but you know what would happen? He'd become liable for the entire bill, which may have been hundreds, is that fair?
If I have to reinstall the entire operating system to get a mouse working properly, then there's something very wrong.
Now, I have mod points, and could mod you troll... But really, be fair. MX Revolution is not just a mouse. It is a specialty piece of hardware requiring particular drivers and is way more complex than you make it out to be. Linux has no problem with the vast majority of mice.
I think it's fairly simple. My grandparents immigrated from Italy before having my father. They are Italian-American. I however, do no speak Italian, but otherwise participate and am proud of that heritage. But I am NOT Italian-American. Unless you immigrated from Africa, you are NOT African-American. You are black if you are black, white if you are white, and gray if your a gray, etc. So I call people black. If they want to get offended, tough shit. No sense getting upset about a description of your skin color.
How else will I get to work? Let's say I worked at the mall near my home, about 5 miles away. (I used to) I drove an 1984 POS car that got 12MPG. (car was a freebie). I could spend 5 bucks round trip and spend 45 minutes each way to take the local train (SEPTA stations are 2 blocks from home and 3 blocks from mall) or could spend 3 bucks on gas and spend 10 minutes each way.
wasting 1.5 hrs a day to save 2 bucks and "the planet" would have been pointless.
False dichotomy. In order to properly, effectively, and SAFELY use a tool, a person should damn well be informed as to its function, its care and maintenance, and details of operation. Otherwise, unsafe conditions, personal harm, permanent damage or other bad things tend to occur to complex tools such as computers. Laziness is no defense.
Analogously, if you drive a car, you should damn well be able to recognize when a malfunction or poor-performing aspect of it's operation may put yourself or others at risk on the road. You should be fully aware that it requires regular lubrication and inspections, and why it needs them. If you must go to a specialist for this, fine (just as most complex machines have experts this is not wrong) but you should have a basic understanding, and not be blindly stabbing in the dark like most computer "users"
Uh huh. Yet people happily figure out how to use Macs. Ok, well, maybe not happily. Why do they do it?
Well, in my experience, you grow up with it. The people who use Macs tend to use macs because that's what their parent's used. Or, because the art department at their college said they should have it
That looks really cool, but they should have made it easier to remove from a keychain. I would hate to see someone hanging the weight of their keys on my USB port!
I would argue that just as the file name isn't being considered metadata, then the file type isnt either. These are almost always the two most relevant things to the selection and use of a file, and so it makes sense to have the filetype be part of the name.
Why the hell would I want a different program to open for each JPG I click on? That would drive me nuts! If you need a different program from the default, just open that program, and then open your file from there.
And with Windows it's Right-click on 'My Network Places' -> Properties. Then pick the connection ->Properties. Pick the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) option ->Properties. All mouse-driven, all GUI, all easy. Adjust away.
This is just the way it is in Ubuntu!
Right click on nm-applet icon. In the 'Wired' tab, click the 'Add' button. Give the new connection a Name, select the IPV4 tab, change the 'Method' dropdown from auto to manual IP, then click 'Add' to add manual IP information. Hit OK, then close. Then click nm-applet icon and under 'wired' section, click the new connection you made. Pretty Damn Simple.
And then when I want to switch back to DHCP: just click nm-applet icon, and choose DHCP. Then when I want to go back to the static network, click applet again and choose the connection I made. MUCH simpler than windows, and 100% GUI.
Eh, there are always exceptions to everything. For instance, I was a poorer, but relatively high-performing student. A lot of the richer kids had a bad, negative attitude about learning (which, to be fair, softened into highschool).
The truth is however, success in the USA is 20% effort and 80% connections.
But as to education, a lot of the poorer performing students simply had a very negative attitude in general, and idolized sports players or music artists.
Culture is a BIG drive behind how one perceives value in education, and I think the targets should be parents and cultural figures, who should be instilling an appreciation of learning and in general "figuring things out". Fostering curiosity is key. It kills me to see rappers or other artists bragging about how successful they are and how easy it is to be so. It is a false image of what life is really like.
I'll bite... WTF? blinker fluid?? Man, I hope you're trolling! :P
Informative?!? Really?!?
can I get a "-1 lame" mod?

Red Alert!
A special ring pattern to let you know you've received a text message?

I think i vaguely remember a ghostbusters cartoon reboot with younger, teenage ghostbusters? Or am I crazy?
Wait, wait... lemme get this straight... your GIRLFRIEND suggested you try Linux? Something doesn't smell right here.
Eh, what the hell: Where can I meet a girl like this?

Maybe they should add moderation and mod points like slashdot to try to seperate the wheat from the chaff.
The ability to QUICKLY navigate all the menus WITHOUT THE MOUSE AT ALL. F then use arrows to flip through all the drop downs, etc.
