You need logic, reasoning, analytical abilities and some sort of capacity to "think outside the box". Some people are naturally born with it, some have to train for it. School does that to you, 4-6 yrs of training molds your brain a certain way, but there are no guarantees that you will become a good programmer if you dont have the aptitude for it. Sure some ppl have trained monkeys to pick stocks, but you need a lot more than that to pick them consistently. Similarly, you need to have a solid foundation if you want to start building a career in software technologies... You dont need a degree to make money in software... look at Bill Gates.
Msft already tried to fight a proxy war with linux through SCO and lost. Msft lawyers are smart enough to know that they will hurt themselves if they sue linux businesses. They are obviously after Google, again msft has to resort to ugly tactics to push bad products down consumers throats.
why is that a good quality operating system like Ubuntu (or other linux distros to be fair), which is given away for free not able to replace Windows or OSX.?
1. Lack of advertisement or consumer education, average joe does not know that there is an option.
2. Lack of OEM carrying Ubuntu pre-installed products, only dell does it so far.
3. Lack of apps used by people on daily basis, apps like Adobe photoshop, tax software, games etc.
What are you doing in order to address these three basic hurdles in the path of Linux adoption in mainstream computer consumer market?
I have Time Warner Cable, with Turbo. I use internet extensively, online streaming like pandora, netflix, youtube, and skype. Not only do I have to pay Time Warner for the internet connection I also have to pay for all the services like netflix & skype (out). In the US we are still in stone age compared to 3rd world countries like Korea when it comes to bandwidth. We supposedly have the best technology & brain power, but we are still short when it comes to servicing 200 mil people with cheap and fast internet. Will breaking cable monopoly help? or it the problem deeper than that? I pay roughly $600 a year for internet a utility that I use for average 8hrs a day. That is pretty steep compared to electricity which I use 24hrs a day, I never have any voltage fluctuations or power outs. But with internet I experience drop in BW or even outage for long periods of time.
With this Mia culpa Russia has saved a lot of time for all the UFO hunters & conspirators. Lets all return to the regular scheduled programming of US Health Care reform debate.
I think this is a serious crime, it shows that they have total disregard people and all they care about is selling their crap. I think MSFT should pay for this, probably give donations to http://www.uncf.org/ . I think they committed a serious hate crime
This has nothing to do with socialism, tax structure, or unregulated capitalism. IBM has stopped to innovate, the only way they can show any profits is by screwing over its employees with no long term strategy in place. They want to look good next quarter, and that is all they care about. The only way they can show any profits is by shifting their work force to cheaper labor markets. They have nothing new to sell, just have to maintain existing crap.

I am not sure if it is fair to compare Ubuntu Jaunty with Fedora, IIRC RHEL is a stable release so is Ubuntu Jaunty, and fedora is more like a dev release that tracks upstream closely. Similarly, Ubuntu Karmic is the dev version that tracks upstream closely before a stable cut of it is released. So probably comparing fedora to Ubuntu Karmic is a fair comparison.
In an interview Steve Jobs said of msft, that msft is a company with no original ideas. I think it is the same even today, but there is one difference. We had Bill Gate who always looks calm and composed, although in reality he is supposed to be really annoying person, and we have SteveO who runs up and down a stage screaming, and had to have throat surgery after screaming "developers developers developers", he is really on some kind of crack. I think in few years msft will turn into a litigation house, like sco they will go down as a technology company that puts out more law suites than any new technology. msft under gates was a marketing company with a very strong arm & huge muscles. Under steveO it will soon turn into a law firm with huge muscles & small a d***.
From the question and all the comments above, it is clear that the focus of one going to university is not education or knowledge but ROI. If you really want to make great returns you don't need any degree, many of the business owners I know dont even have high school. But, if you are really interested in gaining more knowledge then go for your MS. MS degree should add more weight when when you apply for a job, and when you switch jobs. Also, it will help you when you see a leadership position within any large corp. Also, some of the more influential friends I made were my classmates from my MS program:)
So go for it if you genuinely feel like you need to learn more, its not all about ROI, it should be really about knowledge and experience you gain from your MS program.
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/government/microsoft-turns-over-all-win7-and-server-source-code-to-russias-new-kgb/9191 So they already have the source code for W7, they probably need someone inside of msft so that bugs they find in the code will get fixed...

What you need is an N900, skype, google talk/voice integration, wifi/3G, open smartphone running (debian) maemo5

I think the pay should be, pay suggested by sloccount x 3
EX-FAT sounds like some kinda weight loss program. Or is msft really losing its weight in mobile space ??

You get what you pay for....
Probably it should be renamed Gspot
This is what Buddha said more than 2000 yrs ago, but we as human being learn only from making mistakes.
"Microsoft hatred is a disease" -- linus ... did he envision msft would rain on his parade some day ?

Where in the Linux kernel did you find this flag ?
You can run $sudo powertop and follow the suggestions there. Have you tried that ?

Why would you need to tell SEC who you think your competition is ?
