But that's pretty much the basic premise behind the whole project, no? Sending penis doodling is the purported goal, but if it doesn't work for whatever reason, the kid will try a few things to get it to work, in the process learning a thing or two. Or so the expectation goes.
Please help me out here, does the author really think that kids in third world countries are going to be doing development work on these limited devices? Based on the quote below from the article the author really beleives that these devices should be open to tampering/fiddling. Does he think that if the device fails there will be a geek squad near by? Are hacking skills of value when you live in a mud hut?\
Kids today. Many of us had Apple/Commodore as the first computer, mucked around a good bit just for no good reason, and learned a good bit of how computer works, and there were no Geek Squad. That's how you learn.
Btw, these are going to developing countries where computers for kids makes some sense, not cavemenistan. It'd be nice if they marketed these things here (US) also rather than only those countries though - today's mainstream PCs just ain't designed for kids to learn the basic.
You have mistaken Craigslist with all those "Web 2.0" pipe dream operations. It's just a website where people post stuff for whatever. It ain't MySpace, it ain't Google, nor does it pretend to be eBay.
Congratulations on completely missing the point... blah blah blah...
It's not humor. It's not a joke. It's pathetic attention whoring... blah blah blah...
This must be a troll. Or French. Maybe French troll.
Pittsburgh ain't the iron city no more, it was rated one of "the most livable city" back in the '90s. It's the rust belt towns to the west (hello Ohio!) whose gunk blows in.
Well, I'm glad you found a fix that works for you. But, just because you need treatment, doesn't mean all the other oddballs suffer mental illness that require fix, especially with psychiatry being what it is and all*.
Ok, that said, I know nothing of this guy, and nothing to add to the story...
When you're talking about a finite resource like clean air, a per capita analysis is worthless, the total effect is what's important. China has 1 billion+ people.
Right, we should nuke China, and Belgium should nuke us. For the good of us all, you understand.
One of the age old problems is the assumption that IT for most companies is simply capital expenditure. ROI is hard to measure for IT for most companies.
For most industries other than software, IT is like utility, telecom, logistics, etc. I had no idea I was getting into janitorial business when I went into this field. Well, beats accounting - we also go to jail less frequently.:-)
Given that we do not know the basic mechanism well enough, barring evidence to the contrary, we'd expect the cause (or what appears to be the cause/precondition) that was the culprit 10 previous times consistently, would likely be the cause. It's one of the reasons we try to learn what happened before.

Yeah, but how many years have you put into your abacus before your fancy Atari upgrade? Oh, they lied to you about France.

Geek Squad, pah.
That's a really bright thing to say. What, you program only with solder?
Listen, Balmer, stop laughing for a minute and pay attention. This is your strategy - kill two birds, etc.
This zero-sum mentality is nauseating.

Always whining. Girls are half the student body, might as well accomodate them. What, boys not smart enough to deal with that?
That's "under-mis-estimate" you French troll.

Goddamn it, that's what they did to me!!! But how come my posts still modded down to -1?
Give this guy a medal - he comes to slashdot and complain about people being "geeky".
Grab real-life vinnie and guido and go over their house. It's so simple cavemen can do it.

Ooooh, diabolical!!

*Scientologists should pay me for that. :-)
Stop paying the tax and get the hell out of my country.
They're all on the nasty side of I-5.
No, didn't RTFA, and don't care if it's flamebating or what.
Right, we should nuke China, and Belgium should nuke us. For the good of us all, you understand.
The guy's in NorCal, no? 36K premium for solar panel is pretty reasonable - that's less than closing cost for good many homes there.
Yeah, I know. It was a "high-tech" field back then.

"All natural!! Hehe. No, we mean it. Yeah the electro stuff! We just scoop'em up!!"
