I've had Mono running on a few different flavors of Linux, OS X, Windows, etc. It's portable enough. Portability is a misnomer anyway. It's not as if I can just take Java code I've written for Android and it will magically work on Windows.
You're missing the point. Why should I be forced to pay a private content provider to provide a service?
I can't see this providing any social or cultural value: most of the music people are going to be downloading is probably going to be readily available. This is why it is a waste. A better use of the money would be to invest it into music education programs where people actually LEARN how to play and make music.
I am not against government spending, so long as there is real measurable value in that spending.
Our taxes are already spent on plenty of really really dumb stuff, last thing we need is "free" music downloads. Think of those poor sorry record companies though, how are they supposed to make any money?
So what? I am glad someone is doing something. If this passes in California the prohibitionists won't really have a leg to stand on when all hell doesn't break loose and crime rates remain stable or even decline as some predict.
The article nor the interview makes no mention of running around screaming and shouting. The video shows RMS quietly standing in the corner holding a sign.
Exactly, especially because the tubes tend to get jammed up with horses eventually. Then the broad band operator has to shoot some lotto balls through to get the throughput back to what it should be. This is why broadband doesn't really seem to be getting much cheaper - it's still a high maintenance operation.
Same as here in NY. School districts are bitching about the state withholding funds. In reality, they waste money on unnecessary crap like in TFA. To make the bitching even more egregious, most districts have plenty of money saved in "rainy day" type funds to cover budgets shortfalls.
I loved the Commander Keen series by Id. I've played some indie platformers, but none really have the fun factor of some of the classic sidescrollers. I recently finished Shadow Complex and the game play was OK but the environment was really boring, repetitive and not at all immersive.
People like the rude passenger in question slow down the boarding and exiting and make life miserable for everyone. Last time I flew, I was close to the back of the plane and the guy next to me popped up as soon as we landed and ran to the front almost knocking people over shouting "Excuse me, I am in a big hurry.", as if there were no other passengers on the flight that had somewhere to be. If there were only a way to charge a difficult customer premium, maybe people would think before being inconsiderate.
Sorry AC, but it sounds like you're just too much of a wimp to go out and actually talk to women. Anxious and afraid of being rejected. Heck, you even posted as AC.
2) your typical nerd male is going to be harder to talk into doing risky behavior such as hang gliding or whatever, because he'll be too busy worrying about the elevated risk of death
I have to disagree with you on a couple of levels. First, I am a glider pilot (hang gliders), and a high majority of the 100+ members in my club are engineers or technologists of some sort. The skill and depth of knowledge required are very appealing to this type of person.
Having participated in team sports and more "extreme" sports myself, you run into a lot more of the nerdy/dorky type in these areas.
I find Obj-C's verboseness from named params and other language features more difficult to read. With named params, the first param name is omitted, which makes certain kinds of functions look very strange. For example, a setVector method might look like this:
[obj setVector: x, y: y,z: z]
To develop apps for iphone, you need to mix C function calls with Obj-C so things start looking even stranger.
You're comparing apples to oranges here. If you're doing simple applications, Flash is perfect. I am doing some iphone development professionally and can tell you Flash would have been great here.
If a dev needs and wants the fastest performance (games, multimedia, etc) and the latest and greatest features, then they'll do it in native code, otherwise not. I can tell you, Flash would have been perfect for the last couple of apps I've done and would have rather used it than Obj-c.
I couldn't agree more. I would have loved this as a kid. Hell it would probably be fun now. I don't see why people get so worried, it's probably a lot safer than playing most sports, or other types of play that kids typically engage in: dodge ball, riding bikes, rollerblading, skateboarding, ice skating, base ball, etc etc.

No, but the data is no longer public.

The Bugat team really knows their stuff. Good job guys!

Congratulations! You've won the funniest post of the day award!
Nice work. I'd never heard of you before Video Pod, but seeing as now Apple is suing you..

The Windows 3.11 clock program.
Right, so you can see what my problem with the syntax is. setVectorWithX and setVectorX are both goofy and awkward.
:=.
[obj setVectorWithX: x, Y:y, Z:z];
[obj setVectorX: x y: y z: z];
C++
obj->setVector(x,y,z);
In my opionion, name parameters handled using another operator like
I would agree that the syntax is horrible.

To clarify, you pay the $99 to deploy and release. Without a provisioned device, you can't deploy to it.
I agree, but in many situations it is possible to do MORE with less.

This ordinance prevents restaurants from preying on children's love of toys' to sell high-calorie, unhealthful toys
Normally, toys are not eaten and therfore not considered high calorie.
