IPv4 address for regular allocation* have run out at the IANA and APNIC and will soon run out at RIPE and ARIN too.
Meanwhile IPv6 is still in it's infancy with the majority of end users not having access to the IPv6 internet. So if you want to run a public server it needs to have a v4 address.
I'm maybe one of the lucky guys who has an ISP who is actively supporting world IPv6-day. With no cost on my side I am running on IPv6 now. All of my devices at home and therefore also my webserver are IPv6 enabled. I have a AAAA record assigned to the hostname I own.
So it's a bit difficult to put myself in the position of the people who still do not have IPv6, but in my opinion IPv6 is not in its infancy, nor is it difficult to transition to IPv6 (provided the upstream provider does IPv6, but the ease of transition follows recursion).
Very jerky indeed. I took out my old floppies and loaded WOLF3D in dosbox and it was smooth as butter. Added bonus, I never had so much EMS and XMS memory free in my life!
Apple doe the same in the Netherlands. The consumer organisation (consumentenbond) has warned Apple to inform customers about the minimum of 2 years of warranty wich is guaranteed by law (as opposed to the 1 year Apple is offering, and they also offer the 2 and 3 years extended 'AppleCare Protection Plan' at a price in the Netherlands).
The "consumentenbond" is contemplating legal actions if they don't change their ways: http://www.consumentenbond.nl/actueel/nieuws/nieuwsoverzicht-2012/apple-moet-duidelijker-zijn-over-garantie/
"I like Precheck, but it would be much more valuable to me if I were able to know before leaving for the airport whether or not I had Precheck approval for that day's flights," said Beth Allen, a University of Minnesota economist and frequent traveler.
Yeah. That kinda defeats the purpose of the random regular screenings, doesn't it. Otherwise J. Random Terrorist would just have to become a frequent flyer and be enrolled in the Precheck programme to do his thing. Now wouldn't that be convenient.
FWIW, I'm a Christian who believes in both creation and evolution.
The Bible says that one day God created x, and on one day God created y. It doesn't say how much time elapsed between those events, or how he did it. God could have created the cosmos with a "big bang".
I remember reading that it happened in 6 days. And not in 6 random days, no, 6 consecutive days (the first day, the second day, etc.). Ok, you could argue that the bible has a strange notion of time and that days in that period were a lot longer, but Genesis also states "And there was evening, and there was morning", so one day is defined by the same standards we have today. Still it could mean that the earth was turning around its own axis a lot slower.
But then again, that would contradict the fact that people in those days were getting a lot older than today (Abraham apparently lived to be 205).
So you need a different explanation to your bible to be convincing. To me, it is not.
That is what you get in the Netherlands for armed robbery. Even though sencences have gone up in recent years, they still are low compared to other countries.
And keep in mind it's a 13 year old kid. It has to be something very serious to lock up kids at that age.
Just one thing: this not only applies to Holland, but is an issue in the whole of the Netherlands.
Ziggo and XS4ALL have as of today blocked access to the Pirate Bay. The thing is: the court ordered Ziggo and XS4ALL to block certain IP addresses associated with the Pirate Bay, based on a list given by non-governmental organisation BREIN, which purports to protect the rights of intellectual property. The court also ruled that BREIN can add IP-addresses to this list for Ziggo and XS4ALL to block, without further court rulings! Basically the've given BREIN free play to censor the internet.
Forget about what the police can do with autonomous vehicles. Who is liable when two autonomous vehicles collide? I wasn't driving the thing, it was driving itself! So the collision is a result of faulty programming by the manufacturer.
I forsee huge lawsuits and multibillion losses for car manufacturers.
Yes. It still works. Give me a reason why I should upgrade, other than "it's newer". I reinstalled my parent's computer last month with a fresh install of XP. Why would I want to change what is working? They only use a wordprocessor, a spreadsheet, mail and internet and the occasional game. Why start with Vista or 7, which I don't even know, let alone teach 70+ year old parents how to use.
I can run anything I want to run on XP, so Vista or 7 have no benefits for me.
I've used PDAs for close to 25 years now. My first was a HP 320 LX. In those days of early mobile phones PDAs and mobile phones where two very distinct things. By the time they got integrated the PDAs were still too big to be used as a proper phone (my HTC YasYar comes to mind as something I never put near my ears), at least if you wanted a PDA that was actually useful for something. But now I even have a PDA with a phone (smartphone) that is small enough to use as a phone.
And I hate it as a phone.
The problem I have with it is that a phone is always on and a smartphone is not. I need to actively switch it on to see if and who called or sent me a text message. And on top of it it does not even work properly with the bluetooth system in my car.
My 10 year old Nokia 6310i does work with that bluetooth system. I'm going back to using a standard old dumbphone for my calls. On the plus side, it will also last for two weeks without a recharge.
Roads should NOT be used by anybody but professional drivers.
Please no. Or define "professional drivers".
I have seen to many people who have to drive because it's their job (be it bus drivers, truck drivers, taxi drivers, whatever) who are so incredibly lax with their driving that it just borders criminal driving.
Why would it be funny? At home I have the very first pocket calculator (HP 35) and it uses three AA batteries and drains in about a day. At school I used a Casio FX-82 which, even with daily use, never needed a battery change and still works (granted, I don't use it that often anymore).
Not to be pedantic, but apparently you can get a degree in religious studies.
Regardless of that: if they can't answer questions about a course because their book of stories tells them it's not so, then fail them.
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why the economy is in decline. Yet more money spent on worthless things. Basically this is what drives inflation. The more money wasted like this, the less there is to spent on actual increase of value. .xxx domains were a useless idea anyway and now they've evolved into a bad idea.
It would be on handheld devices. Hotels around the world have it, so why wouldn't we?
Is he deliberately being a troll here? What's the difference between hotelrooms and planes? Maybe the fact that you have privacy in a hotelroom? And how does this match up with the reports of a few weeks ago to remove all toilets?
Small tip for Mr. O'Leary: put small booths in the plane with a coin slot so you can get some more money from your patrons while they jack themselves off.
California had a day to recognize Steve Jobs, Dennis Ritchie had a much larger impact on the world at large than Steve did. Steve just was really good at PR.
Can only agree. Steve Jobs dying is a sad thing (for people who like Apples). It's like when Rembrant or Mozart died: someone with a lot of creative power who touched a lot of people with beatiful things.
Dennis Ritchie dying is like God dying. Dennis Ritchie made it all possible.
You're missing the point. Opera patenting this page-like browsing to prevent others to add it is a good thing.
But I'm sure there will be a good alternative to Firefox by then. It is already on the decline (read: having the Netscape-disease).
I don't dial out on my computer and I don't do calculations on my phone. So there is no overlap in use and my brain can make the distinction.
It can't however cope with differently layed out keypads on ATM's, as I experienced in Spain last month. ATM keypads are normally 123 on top, but I came across one that had 789 on top and all of a sudden it turned out that I didn't know my PIN but did know the sequence.
That was a bad trip.
UARS made one orbit in less than 90 minutes, so if the de-orbit accuracy is 12 hours, then you have no clue at all where it will actually come down.
It came down on its own, no assistance from de-orbit burns, the only thing stopping it was the drag from out atmosphere. And that tends to expand and contract rather erraticly due to external influences (like the sun) so it is very very very difficult to say when it would come down. Even in the last 8 hours the predictions of when it would come down were accurate only to more than 1 hour, so still more than half the earth covered.
At the time when this satellite was launched, there wasn't a big concern about them coming down (or better: what happened after decommissioning). Now there is. These days, satellites are planned to have some fuel left to make a controlled de-orbit or move it to an orbit so it won't come down.
Reading their actions I can only say one thing: these men should be sent to some penal colony. Australia for instance. Apparently 'tis the time for punishing petty crimes with outrageous sentences.
The benefit: not only will 'cool roofs' lower the utility bill in every apartment house 10 to 20 percent, but it frees cash that can be spent to increase economic growth.
So, money that is spent on heating costs doesn't have any effect on the economy? Where does that money go then?
It goes up in smoke. Literally.
While it is true that money not spent on cooling can be spent on other non-functional things like a gazillion overpriced handbags that my wife only use one time, and it is true that there is a business in making energy, money can be far better spent for more durable things.
Last time I looked, the US had a huge budget deficit. You may want to use money to fix that. Money you don't use in cooling your heater.
Once I discovered goobers, Wolf3D just wasn't interesting anymore...
What else do you propose?

Just pester your ISP.

So he's a nut with a gun. Kinda how the rest of the world sees the USA. Apologies for the overgeneralization.
So what's a POS? I know P/OS, but that's not a gun.

I cannot take the US serious anymore when parents start giving their children names that come straight out of cartoons.

*I'm not a complete idiot; I know batteries run out, but was an accurate portrayal of the car's range really too much to ask?
And this you ask from people who go out of their way to prove that a Toyota Prius is less fuel-economic than a BMW M3?
