    All government records should be in searchable and in easily accessed formats. Hiding behind 'it costs too much too look' needs to die, now. Things like traffic cams shouldnt even allowed to be installed until a pathway for the public to access its records at any time is made available. All government agencies should be required to submit ALL their records to an open repository, unless otherwise marked as sensitive or classified. FOIA should be the unfettered access to any record not marked classified. EVERY citizen should be able to access this data, en masse.

    We are deep into an Information Age, its time to remind the government pervasive surveillance goes both ways.

    As Area-of-Denial around bases, the actual proper ethical use of a landmine. They are laid out in a marked patterns and all are accounted for. This is why we dont sign the ban.....Why give up a useful weapon when we use it responsibly?

  11. As AC above so eloquently points out, Apple's maps being locked to idevices means it will permanently be a second rate mapping system compared to everything else that is web available. They dont 'owe' it to me, but it says a lot about them and produces an inferior product. Personally, I dont like such massive troves of knowledge locked behind apps, we are losing the web, so the more pressure we can put on making sure big vendors keep their data web-accessible, the better.

    I think the most damning thing is that you cant access Apple's maps without an idevice. No web access at all.... TO me that its incredibly petty and small for a company with $200 Billion in cash rotting offshore.

  13. Microsoft requires a phone number for MS accounts now as well. Its not required to sign up, but they will lock you out of your account until you provide one. There is no way to get around it.

    So sick of services and apps that put up 4 pictures and some text on their webpage and expect you to sign up and install their app before telling you anything about how the service works. Almost as bad as apps that will let you install them on your PC but you cant alter its settings at all (like disabling 'launch on windows startup') until you are signed in with a valid account. IM looking at you Discord..

  23. Shooting at the wrong target. You should be MUCH more concerned about your phone turning into something that is your official ID/government profile and be forced to use it in all interactions so everyone is positively identified at all times.

Humans havent changed much in the last 4,000 years, so its not hard to use fiction to predict what they will do with future powers like being able to track every person with a cell phone. Life imitates art, and vice versa, they are not exclusive.
